We have just come back from a great long weekend at the Holyrood Aparthotel. Previous reviews have stated that this place is hard to find to we took a cab from the airport costing £15. The hotel is tucked in just at the bottom of the Royal Mile, within minutes of Arthurs Seat, Dynamic Earth and Holyrood Palace. The hotel is perfectly placed and in pristine condition throughout. We took our 17 month old and had everything that we could have wished for. The staff is very helpful and came back with a positive answer to any minor problem we found. The only complaint we could find was that the floor in the apartment was so highly polished it was like an ice rink, so not much of a complaint at all really! We will definitely be going back, and recommend this to anyone wanting a luxurious base camp.

These apartments are excellent value for money. Very clean & well equipped in the heart of Edinburgh. I have stayed here twice & also booked it for my finance (now husbands) stag do. Great idea for large groups.

This would have to be the nicest accommodation that we have ever stayed in. The staff were very friendly and efficient. We had spent six weeks travelling around the world in some of the nicest hotels around and the Holyrood Aparthotel was by far the best. The location was also very impressive. We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone.

Central but a bit on small side

Just returned from here yesterday. I know Edinburgh well and whilst this is quite central it is a bit smaller than looks on photos. If booking make sure you are on an upper floor and not level below reception as we were as it is VERY noisy.
Apartments fine but basic with utilities.
Have stayed at Edinburgh Residence which is about 4 times size and much comfier!
O.K but would not book again.

I stayed there for two nights last week, after seaching on Trip Advisor for accommodation. It's on a side street between the Scottish Parliament and the Royal Mile. Waverley Station is under ten minutes walk. There is a Starbucks about forty yards north of the front door (on the Royal Mile), and an excellent convenience store on Holyrood Road just around the corner from the hotel.

The apartment was great, with very modern furnishings and a fantastic fully-equipped kitchen. The front desk staff were extremely friendly and helpful with assistance in finding information on bus schedules because a signal problem had knocked out the rail system between Glasgow & Edinburgh. Check it out!

Great location, great place

Holyrood Aparthotel is extremely well done. The lobby is smart, staff helpful and efficient, and the apartment (#603) that we stayed in was immaculate. We had a two bedroom apartment with two full baths and a kitchen with dishwasher, washing machine, and microwave. There were three TVs and they offer a VCR library for your use.

The location is great, minutes from the Royal Mile, Grassmarket, Holyrood House, Dynamic Earth (great science museum as a break from all of the culture), etc.

They have parking which is great in a town notorius for tough parking.

If I had to be supercritical:
1. The videos offerred were a bit dated.
2. It was fairly difficult to find the first time since it is tucked up into a dead end.
3. Our view was marginal.

For an extended stay, this would be highly recommended. However, it was more space and amenities than we needed for a brief stay and was so clean and modern that we did not have a sense that we were staying in a historic town like Edinburgh.

Great Apartment

We stayed here for one night and it was great. The apartment was very modern and comfortable, the staff on reception were friendly and helpful and the hotels location was good - it is literally off the Royal Mile. If I stay in Edinburgh again I would definitely stay here.

Very good hotel-- recommended

We rented a 2br/2 bth apartment-hotel room with kitchen and living area. It was extreemly nice. Great location in the old section just 1/2 block off Royal Mile. Hard to find so be careful and get directions. Turn left at the coffee shop. Very clean, very modern, very quiet. I would definately go back.

I booked this accommodation based on the reviews I had already seen on this site and I was not disappointed. We had a 2 bedroom 2 bathroom apartment on the 5th floor which was spacious enough for my husband, me and our 2 teenage daughters.

I agree with one of the reviewers about the noise from the hardwood floor in the living area. I can only go on how noisy it was when we walked on it because I'm not sure if there was anyone above or next to our apartment as we did not hear anything from any of the other guests.

This is an ideal spot to be close to all the major city centre attractions and we did not have to use the car once during our 2 day stay in this lovely historic city.

We had a 2-BR, 2-BA unit with a living room, dining room, and kitchen. The kitchen came fully stocked with breakfast (bread, jam, butter, yogurt, cereal, juice, milk, tea, etc.) The hotel is on a quiet residential/office "close" (alley) between two main roads, one of which is the Royal Mile. Holyrood Palace is very close by. We enjoyed The Bean Scene (coffeehouse) around the corner as well as Bene's Fish 'n Chips. Other good cafes are also nearby. The room was comfortable - just like home, in a way - and fairly quiet except for the very squeaky hardwood floor and Godawful noise from the hot water heater. Our neighbors could have been more conscientious about how much noise they were making, too. But I would certainly stay here again. We enjoyed borrowing videotapes from the front desk to play in the built-in video player in the TV set.

We visit Edinburgh regularly and couldn't get a room at our usual hotel so we stayed at the Holyrood. Fabulous apartment with excellent facilities. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. Good location for visiting the attractions in the city. We didn't want to leave.

I stayed here last weekend with 7 girlfriends - we had 2 apartments between us with 4 in each apartment. It was fantastic and just what we were looking for. The aparthotel is in a great area, very quiet at night but just 5 minutes walk from The Royal Mile. Arthur's Seat, Dynamic Earth and Holyrood Palace are within minutes. The apartments were spotlessly clean -the kitchen equipped with everything you could want, including food for breakfast - yoghurts, milk, tea, coffee, shortbread biscuits, bread, jams, cereals etc. We bought our own CD's to play on the hi-fi in the lounge and wanted for nothing. Also, TWO BATHROOMS! Luxury. No queuing for the toilet.

The beds were really comfortable and after a long day's sightseeing, eating and shopping we slept like logs. The Palisier du Chocolate is on the Royal Mile not far away and is a must for you chocolate lovers. We ate at The Witchery on Castlehill which was a great experience with fantastic food.

Our weekend was fantastic, not least because it was warm and sunny. The aparthotel I would recommend for families and groups of friends as you have loads of space to move around and can have your privacy ********

An amazing concept. For the price of a standard hotel room you get two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a comfortable lounge with Sky TV and Hi-Fi system and a fully-fitted kitchen complete with dishwasher and washer/dryer! They also have wireless internet access which is just perfect for keeping up to date with your emails.

Situated just off the Royal Mile, about 10 minutes walk from the Castle it is incredibly central and you can walk into the vibrant Grassmarket area for a lively night out.

Staff are brilliant, really friendly and helpful - you couldn't ask for anymore!

Top Local Tips for Edinburgh

Touring near Edinburgh For tourists sites nead Edinburgh, e.g. Linlithgow Palace, use the off peak day return train. It's cheap, fast and efficient.

Take advantage of day trips There is a good rail network from Edinburgh. Everything is relatively close. Take advantage of day trip fares after 9 AM for a cheap but comfortable way to explore, e.g. take a trip across the Forth Bridge (very historic) on the train to Queensferry (don't stay there, go back to Dalmeny).

Book a signtseeing bus tour If you are there in the winter with small children book a tour on the Mac Bus - that departs from Waverley Bridge - which lasts about one hour. You get to see and hear about all the sites, without pushing the buggy!
