It's pricey to start with. And they don't tell you that breakfast is another £17.95. They tell you that they have data channels in every room. But that is another £15 a day. The only thing that's free is the gym and pool. The TV is only 5 standard channels plus 3 fairly dull ones, whereas other places are at least offering you the standard set from free view. Oh - and the movies that are pay for view are poor and expensive.

This is an average hotel trading on a brand name. Understand that and maybe you won't be disappointed.

Historical Traveller Reviews of Hilton Edinburgh Airport Hotel

from CoClare
Stayed for one night this past July with my wife, son, and nephew due to the fact that we had an early flight the next morning. The room was small, but clean and the boys enjoyed the pool. Bedding for the foldout couch was not in the room, and it took several calls before anyone responded. However, my dissatisfaction with this Hilton stems from the restaurant. My nephew had ordered a pasta dish. When he tried it, we could see by his expression something was wrong. I tasted one of the pasta pieces, and it actually tasted as though the cheese had gone bad or they had used grated soap instead! The waiter was apologetic and took the dish away. However, he soon returned with it and stated that the manager would not take it back as it had been eaten. Two pieces out of the entire bowl were eaten! Worse the restaurant manager would not even come to the table to discuss the issue. I wrote a letter to the Hilton Corp., and they said they would look into it. I received a basic letter from the hotel stating they would try better in the future. So I am still out the cost of this horrid meal. Not exactly "customer friendly".

Just fine

This was one of the most attractively decorated hotels I saw in the Edinburgh area, which is saying something. Most Edinburgh hotels are decorated in this abominable modern contermporary stark sparse style that is not what we Americans expect of British/UK hotels. We think chintz, they thing shades of pistachio and chocolate and chrome.

I stayed at the Edinburgh Hilton after my flight was canceled due to mechanical troubles. It was a very welcome respite after waking very, very early that morning to get to the airport on time, rushing, only to find out the plane was a. not taking off on time, and b. not taking off at all. I booked a room using my laptop and wi fi service in the airport, dashed over, and we (my mother and I) were upgraded to a deluxe room with two beds (hallelujah!). After some drinks in the lobby bar, and a nap, we had dinner at the lobby bar. They serve food at bar, and the restaurant was packed with a large group of French tourists, which we were warned about and asked if we wanted a reservation when we checked in. We opted for a quick dinner at the bar instead. Then it was off to bed, and another early rise to the terminal.

They have nice smelling Crabtree and Evelyn toiletries, but do lack a sundry shop, which could have helped since I did not bring a toothbrush or deodorant with me. This hotel is a nice, relaxed "Holiday Inn" type hotel, which is just fine and adequate for what it is, a place to sleep when on lay over at airport, etc. For those who are in Scotland, they have a nice deal where you can drive in from the country, park your car at their parking lot for a week, and stay the night before your flight for a package rate. It's extremely convenient, and I plan to stay there when I return to Edinburgh later this year, must fly to Edinburgh, sleep off jet lag, and then drive to Aberdeenshire.

very scottish

from stallion_bob
stay at hotel before flight and it was very pleasant. My dinner was amazing and I love the very scottish/british menu! My friend with me drooled over it! bar was very friendly and had a mixture of people having a good time. Room very nice and enjoyed the shortbread included! bed was very comfy.

No airport noise whatsoever and is in an excellent location for an early flight.

Great for Catching the Plane the Next Morning

Our family of four spent over two weeks in Scotland touring. Our flight home from Edinburgh was at 5:55am. We had enough Hilton points to get a fee night at this hotel. It was a great arrangement for us. We arrive late from a day of touring Hadrian's Wall. The hotel is on the airport road. After dropping off luggage with the help of a very friendly staff, the rental car drop-off at the airport was practically next door. We were able to just walk through the car park back to the hotel. The restaurant offerred relatively simple fare and the value was only so so. However, it was a perfect place to park the night before leaving for home. It was unassuming but the rooms offer two double beds which was a great saving for a family of four. The hotel offerred free shuttle service 24 hours a day for the airport. For us, it was perfect for our purpose.

I normally read Tripadvisor revues before I book a hotel. I booked in a rush without seeing the revues. How glad I am I didn't read them prior to booking. I would never have experienced the pleasures of this hotel if I had.
We arrived at the hotel, wife and two grand daughters 7 and 3, transported by a COURTESY bus and were piped in by a piper in full dress. Check in efficient and friendly. Room, 2 double beds, was generously proportioned, clean and comfortable. No airport noise, or any other in fact. Bar pleasant enough and service excellent. Pool area and facilities first class. Breakfast, though rather expensive, was perhaps the best I have eaten anywhere. Again service was spot on. We had Sunday lunch at the hotel and it was a really enjoyable experience. Carvery perfect. The children had finished their meal before us and the duty manager brought them colouring sheets and two sets of brand new crayons. My wife and I chose our sweets and went back to the table. With the cakes we had chosen were two half strawberries. The kids who had previously declined the offer of puddings saw the strawberries and asked for some. Although there were none on display the chef went in the kitchen and re-appeared with two dishes of strawberries and a big smile for the children.
Try as I could to find fault with the hotel, all I could come up with was the lack of mini bar and safe in the room.
If you want a hotel with the friendliest staff where nothing is too much trouble, choose this on e
I will be back without a shadow of doubt

This is a dreadful hotel

from cat-d
I really cannot express how dreadful this hotel is and cant believe they get away with calling it a 4 star. The front desk staff are incredibly rude. We had booked a double room and they gave us a twin. We had to stand and argue for ages until they eventually relented and gave us the room we had booked and paid for. The rooms were dated, walls were incredibly thin and you were woken at all hours by people getting up to go to the airport. Twice I was woken up by maids noisily barging into my room at 7am. The food was awful. Our starters were served cold, one us got the wrong main course and another of us found a long hair in her potatoes. When we complained we were brushed off and they refused to accept any responsibility, the manager even tried to blame a new waiter, the poor man hadnt even served us. Drinks were also incredibly overpriced (£7 for a glass of mediocre wine). To top it all off I was charged twice through my credit card for my stay. When I discovered this I got no apology and it took me 3 months and numerous telephone calls to get my money back. I wouldnt stay here for free it was that awful

Was great for us!

from astle
We had a great stay. This Hilton worked very well as a central point for exploring a bit of Scotland. The employees were very helpful and sharp. We had a "tricky" booking, but they got it all perfectly correct. We even left something in our room and it was sent to us shortly thereafter. Hotel room was comfortable and spotless. Only minor complaint was that the buffet dinner service was a bit bland. Room service was better. Will do the same thing again in the future.

Never a 4 Star, extremely poor

from A TripAdvisor Member
My family and I stayed for 1 night en-route to Paris and we were totally dissapointed, reception staff member rude and did not agreewith booking confirmation stating car parking included although he reluctantly had to amend 'the booking', heating had broken down, room was not clean, holes in the bedroom wall, carpet threadbear and dirty, room towels were certainly not of a 4 star standard, bar meal cold and childrens burgers deep fried and served 'macdonald style chips' not exactly what is expected of 4 Star. Attitude of waiting staff left a lot to be desired. On our return trip, had to phone the hotel 4 times and waited forty minutes for the courtesy bus to appear. When leaving the car park, had to return to hotel reception to have the ticket validated, not explained previously.
Would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Watch out for extras

from TSP_Hertford
The hotel is ok. But it's expensive and it's trading on a name. And everything is charged extra. I thought when I paid £140 a night breakfast would be included. I went to have breakfast. no charge listed anywhere. Imagine my surprise that a whopping £17.95 was added for breakfast to my bill. I contested it. Hey when they knock something off your bill without a murmer of protest doesn't that say something about them knowing they are in the wrong?

They advertise broadband data connection in every room. It doesn't say it's another £15/day extra until you look at the in-room material. There was a modem in my room, but somebody had removed the power supply. Well I know enough to know when a power supply is missing so after a while one eventually was given me, then the connection didn't work properly and I had to call support on a freephone number. I checked with the desk to see if I would be charged to call the freephone number to their service company - "oh no that's free, there will just be a connection charge" - at least they removed that after protest.

Other things are ok, but no better than hotels costing half the price. There is nothing in this place to justify the cost.

I am angry and will never consider staying at a Hilton again.

Great hotel, pity about the staff and restaurant menu

My husband and I stayed at this hotel for a few nights in September 2005 and found the room of excellent value and the breaksfast, which was included in the price, was delivered to our room (by choice) and was hot and of a high standard. The gym facilities were excellent and the pool looked great, although didn't have a dip in it. The reception staff were rude and unhelpful and having to pay to park there when a guest, was not good. Although the price was reduced, it still cost us in the region of £15 to park our car while we stayed there. The restaurant menu was very limited and we actually left there and went to our room to order as the room service menu was much better. We filled in a comments card about the reception staff and received a lovely bouquet of flowers as an apology from the management, which was appreciated. I would stay at this hotel again.

Top Local Tips for Edinburgh

World class The city has everything from castles to galleries. From pubs to gardens.

Taxis vs. Buses If you're close to the airport, get there via free shuttle and the express buses run into the center of town all day long. There are Night Buses as well if you get stuck on a pub crawl.

Take the bus Do not drive in the City. Take public transport! Simply purchase a weekly pass and you are good to go.
