Never stayed in a worse place in my life

Went for a nice weekend away with friends all aged between 24 and 42. When we got there we just dropped our bags off and left to go for a nice meal, after the meal we decided to return to the hotel and have a few drinks in the bar, where the staff were more interested in smoking outside than deal with the customers and if he was not smoking he was being very rude. The next day when we got up and looked round the room we notice how dirty the room was mold in the shower and dirt and grime every hwere. Would not recommend anyone to ever stay there.

Looks super in the photos, just required 1 nights accomodation, but with festival, difficult to get your first choice!. Paid £109 + for 2, B&B. Hotel is a bit tired and requires a good dust, had Room 319, but when arrived originally allocated a room in annexe across the road from main hotel! Night satff aka Stuart great & friendly, and bar stays open as long as residents around. Would rate cost per person £30 each! Room small but ok for 1 night. I believe the family rooms are decent size.

Excellent Value For Money!

Having read previous reviews, I was very apprehensive about my stay. I went with a friend and we are both pensioner ladies, trying to make our pensions stretch!

It is very well situated, and is just a couple of minutes walk from several bus stops, with numerous buses into the City.

Our twin room was clean, and though it was a bit small, we had no intention of using the room, other than as a base.

The bathroom looked brand new, and was spotless. The reception staff, and we saw several, were all very helpful, and nothing was too much trouble.

The breakfast was hot and well cooked, and promptly served. If I was paying the prices that The Balmoral Hotel charged, I could understand some of the comments on this site, but for £15 each a night, including breakfast, it was excellent value.

Satyed overnight after Al Green concert. Hotel was great, staff friendly, room and breakfast good. some people want to pay for a skoda hotel and get a rolls royce one. For the price this was great value. Will go back. Thank you

Top Local Tips for Edinburgh

Royal Yacht Britannia When visiting Edinburgh you must take a trip to Leith to take the tour of the Royal Yacht Britannia. It is extremely interesting and to see the Royal Apartments on the yacht is fasinating. It is situated at the Ocean Terminal shopping complex so you can get your ration of culture and history and finish off with a great lunch and some retail therapy!

Quite a fun place if you plan it out properly. Remember to keep a map with you and to plan your trip beforehand.

Travelling with kids Children love climbing Calton Hill, climbing Arthur's seat, and exploring the Scottish Museum. And all these things are free! If you go to the Scottish Museum remember to go all the way to the top floor - the rooftop view is one of the best in Edinburgh. It has lots of hands on exhibits for children too. Our child also enjoyed visiting the Georgian House - the children's questionnaire is alot of fun to do. Entry is free if you are a national trust member. Some kids love Edinburgh castle, but we found little there to amuse our 5 year old and the entry price is quite high at 11 pounds. On the other hand Jenners (the department store on Princes St) is a beautiful building to visit and they have a great toy department and restaurant that is reasonable and has a nice view of the city.
