First of all, this is a VERY convenient location, almost exactly half way along the Royal Mile. Everything you need to see and do in Edinburgh is walking distance away, and if you're the lazy sort, there's a taxi stand right outside the door. In case no one told you, the Royal Mile seems to have a 30 degree slope from east to west, so get your legs in shape before you go. Another reason to have strong legs is the lack of a lift (elevator to us colonists!). We were on whaT we would call the third floor, and the climb to our room was 56 stairs. That inconvenience was the only downside to this charming and affordable inn. This is indeed an old bank building renovated to be a bar on the main floor with three floors of rooms above. Clean, intriguingly decorated rooms, and very comfortable furniture are enhanced by windows which actually open and bring fresh air into the room. Full Scottish breakfast (or continental) included in the room rate makes this an even better bargain. Go on, try......
