Well where do I start?!
The room was fantastic, had everything you need and more.Good sized bedroom and the bed was really comfy. The staff were extremly helpful and very attentive. The location is fantastic and it is very easy to find (which was a plus point for me.) Lots of great restaurants a short walk away! The breakfast was lovely, fantastic selection and of a very high quality. It was a bit of a nightmare trying to find a parking space, but although it was Pay and Display it was free after 6.30pm on Sat until 8am on Monday so we didnt have to constantly renew our ticket. I would definatly recommend the Apex European to all of my friends and family!! Great prices for a 4 Star hotel!!

The Apex European Hotel is the BEST

We stayed at the Apex European Hotel 22 and 23 September 2006 and had a wonderful experience as I had expected. I had stayed ther in October of 2002 and had such great service and treatment that being as I was going to Scotland again I wanted to stay at the Apex. The staff at the Apex are excellent and are always available to help you with smallest problems. You are made to feel welcome by everyone on the staff at this fine hotel. I highly recommend it to any visitor of Scotland due to it's location and amenities. Your room will always be cleaned to perfection and beds made like the first day you checked in. You won't be disappointed by staying at this fine hotel.

No way is this 4 star

We won a prize and was placed at this hotel and told we were arriving to a 4 star hotel. I can't understand how it got the rating as it's really a travelodge with nicer bedding. Tiling in the bathroom needed some attention and the room was tiny. Starting at £140 a night you really expect more and if I was going to Edinburgh again which is a fab city I certainly would look for better value for money. The last time I went to Edinburgh I stayed at The Witchery - yes it's expensive but wow that place is amazing.

Travelled to the Apex European for a break to destress after exams at uni. Came across a great deal from Travel Zoo at £138.00 total price for two which included full breakfast for both nights and 3 course dinner on the first night. I think their offers vary from month to month.

The hotel staff are really friendly and helpful. Our room had a nice big tv, dvd and mini fridge. The hotel offered complimentary water, newspaper and rubber duck! Food at breakfast was great with lots of choice. Our evening meal again was faultless and to a high standard.

Localtion is about 15 mins away from the centre - Princess Street area but found the walk easy enough, there is a bus stop outside the hotel and we jumped on one of the buses to the centre one night, £1.00 each.

The Indian restraunt next to the hotel (?? Spice Hut) offered a variety of delicious dishes and was well worth a visit.

Way overpriced

I completley agree with many of the other reviews - this hotel does not represent good value for money. We stayed here as we booked on short notice a number of simialr priced hotels were all fully booked- our firiends who were in Edinburgh at the same time paid less for a room at the Raddisson and that hotel seemed to be far better, and more central.
This hotel claims to be 4* though it is essentially a glorified B&B. The rooms are clean and bright but are very small (with two people and one suticase it is almost impossible to walk around the bed!!) and the decor is very cheap and a little tatty. The location is good but not great - about 10 minutes walk to the start of Princes St. We had breakfast in the restaurant and this was ok, but again not great - pleasing that the hot breakfast is cooked fresh rather than a buffet that you normally get in some large hotels. The hotel would be fine if it charged half the price and made out to be budget accomdation but it really is not worth the money that you pay considering it location, the size and quality of the room, and the other (non-existent) facilities, and considering there are better hotels that are in the same price range I would not stay here again

OK, not really worth the money

We stayed for 2 nights in a double room, which was nicely appointed - DVD player, fridge, hairdryer - but also INCREDIBLY small!! I was fed up with having to move my suitcase everytime we moved around the bed. Nice friendly staff, and after an early morning flight to Edinburgh we were very lucky to be able to check in at 9.30am instead of having to wait until 2pm. Overall the food at breakfast was very good - even a nice vegetarian choice, rare that! However on our first morning the service was completely shambolic - we had to wait to be seated, waited 15 mins for tea, and we were not told to help ourselves to the cold buffet whilst waiting for our hot food. Thankfully the second day the service was much improved, which avoided any complaints having to be made. Its interesting that the hotel claims to be 4star, and was sold as such when I booked it, as in my opinion it is just a glorified travel lodge. It was ok, but not really worth the money, although the good access into town and out to the airport was a thumbs up.

Could not fault friendliness and hepfulness of reception staff. Ground floor rooms small and on a passage leading to a service area - so regular sounds of bottles being binned. Bar area and restaurant seemed fairly chaotic - partly because of international rugby match crowds - although on second night users of the meeting room facilities seemed to have precedence over guests. Had to move rooms because of the mattress - springs in your back! Not good value for money at an average cost of £99 room only per night.

Great place

Great location for the rugby as Murrayfield is only a 10 minute walk away. The rooms are very clean with excellent facilities (safe, large TV with teletext, fridge, hairdrier) The staff are very friendly and the service received was high. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Nice Hotel And Great Breakfast

I stayed here for two nights from 27-29 December and was pleasantly surprised by the room we stayed in and breakfast(freshly cooked for you when ordered). The menu also included 2 full english vegetarian options!

If you stay at this hotel I would suggest catching a train to Edinburgh (Haymarket).This station is only 3-4mins away from the hotel and closer than Waverly.

A nice hotel in Edinburgh

I stayed two nights here at the start of August. The hotel is a fair walk from Waverley Train Station, probably would talk about 15-20 minutes. The hotel room was very nice and clean, no complaints there. My biggest shock was at breakfast time, I didn't realise that breakfast was not included in the price, and not cheap either, £12 per breakfast. So for two of us over two days equals nearly £50 that we had not budgeted for, and as far as I remember, it was only a basic fry-up. We also had several problems with our credit-card size key thing. The staff were very nice and friendly, not sure if I would choose to stay there again though mainly due to the location and over-priced breakfast.

I have stayed in many hotels around the world, APEX will now be on that list, check- in swift and professional, rooms nice, the Apex maynot have the location of the two sister hotels... but it's only a 5-10 mins walk into the centre, and a bus stop right outside the hotel... I would reccomend dining in the restaurant.. the food is of a excellent standard... WILL BE BACK SOON!

Just walk around There's a lot to do in Edinburgh, especially during the festival, but don't miss out on the opportunity just to walk around and enjoy the landscape and buildings of one of Europe's most amazing and beautiful historic cities. Set some time aside to explore the Old Town, New Town and walk up to see the views from the Castle and Arthur's Seat. Seeing Edinburgh on foot is an essential part of any visit.
