Wonderful staff, excellent food!! Nothing was too much trouble and the standard very high in all respects.
Lovely touches over Christmas included a stocking on every door, roasted chestnuts, transport to the church for services if needed.
A truly memorable and enjoyable experience.

Great Hotel - Food Service Poor

from Geeja
Our room was fantastic, the reception staff were faultless and everything about this hotel on first appearance is excellent. Couldn't complain about anything here except the standard of organisation in the restaurant.
The staff were actually pretty helpfull in the restaurant and always corteous. The problem was that the food was vry slow to come out, and we were left with one member of our table not being served at every course (5-10 min delay), so we all waited for that course to come out, resulting in everyone but the lucky last person having a warm meal at best.
The fault lies with the organisation of the restaurant and not with the waiters, so food and bev manager.....you need to take a look at this and sort it out. we were not the only people with this problem, so the systems in the kitchen need reviewing in my humble opinion.
Everything else was perfect and I would reccomend this as a good place to stay!!

Excellent Hotel - Completely refurbished

from Lorraine21Fife
We booked throgh Classic britain which was by far the cheapest out of any hotel booking site (£92 DBB for 2 people per night) we actually stayed for 3 nights in total. The hotel has been extensively modernised throughout the restaurtant, bar area and rooms are of excellent luxury standard. I would say the only down side is that the menu did not change for the 3 nights which was a dissapointment as you were running out of options! breakfast there is a lot of choice, fruit cereal cooked breakfast etc - the cooked breakfast the food was actually warm as some help yourself buffets the food can be cold.

health hazard

went to use the bathroom in our room only to find toilet covered in blood . this was reported and was cleaned. returned to room after 1230am no cups for tea and coffee no control for tv and central heating on full no way to turn it down as the room was very hot. no info pack in room to call reception . when we complained we had to call five times, each time staff promised to call back, but we did not get any return calls from the hotel. eventually when they did return our call told no compensation for our stay this time but if we want to use the hotel again they will take 25% off our room. so to get compensated for sloppy service we need to spend more money in this shabby hotel

Excellent location

Nice hotel - disappointing restaurant service

from sammoi
stayed for two nights. Hotel really busy - school holidays. Everything pretty good except for the dining experience .Booked dinner on arrival at around 4:30pm, Only time available was 9:15pm. We duly turned up . It took 30 minutes to be served drinks. The starter arrived after 10:00pm. Soup was cold --sent it back. Main course was really good. Sweet was fine . By the time we ordered a couple of items on menu has run out .Long delays at every stage. Eventually finished the meal - no coffee -after 11pm. The number of staff clearly couldn't cope with the numbers of diners. Many others seemed to have the same experience. The hotel management were helpful and constructive in dealing with our complaint.

Very Posh, Excellent Place For A Hotel.

The View Was Amazing And The Hotel Was Huge! The Room Was Good Although I Don't Remember Much About It. The Food Was Great As Well!

Great experience

We drove to this hotel after we walked out of the Cromlix House Hotel after being shown to an attic /terrible room and bing told there was no other choice. We were welcomed and shown several rooms that were available and we settled on a lovely room with a desk and nice sitting area. The staff couldn't have been more helpful. the rate we paid was higher than if we had booked ahead on the internet. But after the place we just left we didn't care.

Perfect - a wonderful experience

Having grown up in Stirlingshire, my sister chose Dunblane Hydro as the venue for her wedding reception and visited there regularly to discuss arrangements over the summer months when the building was being rejuvenated (on the assurance that everything would be complete for her Big Day on 3rd October 2009).

In the interim, I was reading the many reviews here on tripadvisor and becoming more than a little anxious!

Happily, my fears were misplaced.

Taking the recent barrage of negative comments as indicative of its previous standards, it’s evident that The Doubletree by Hilton: Dunblane-Hydro has undergone an astonishingly effective transformation.

On our arrival, the staff members at reception were warm and welcoming. Despite their apparent youth, they were also unstintingly professional - friendly but not overly familiar; informative without appearing robotic, and beautifully well presented. They were all wearing lapel badges with “10” on them (as was every other employee I encountered), and were happy to explain – on asking – that they served as a reminder to us (and to them) of the level of service we should expect throughout our stay.

[By the way, make sure you ask which stairwell is best for access to your room – the main lifts are opposite Check-In, but once you’ve dropped your luggage off you’ll probably find it much easier to navigate the building without using them.]

The room we’d booked was smaller that I had expected, but was spotless and well finished. In contrast, the suite my sister was staying in was sumptuous – long, high rooms with beautiful views and stunning décor.

We were booked into The Hydro for three nights, so planned to have dinner there on both Friday and Sunday evenings. There’s the option to order from a Bar Menu (which, although I didn’t try, was highly praised – especially the fish and chips!) but we chose to eat in the main restaurant.

Give it a go – it’s fantastic!

Again (and I can’t mention this enough) the staff were absolutely brilliant at their jobs. Nothing was too much trouble, and their attentiveness was welcome without ever seeming obtrusive. Although there is a set three course menu (and no a la carte option – boo!), you can choose the (unadvertised) two course option for about £7 less. All four in our group, having had a big lunch, opted for two courses (a starter and dessert) and were immediately told by our waitress that she’d ask the kitchen to enlarge the starter portions to main course size. And even though we realised that we could have selected a main course and starter had we so desired, this new development hadn’t occurred to us!

If it’s on the menu, I’d recommend the lamb. The again, my brother would suggest the steak. My sister chose the vegetarian option, and raved about it. Regardless, we all agreed that the food was superb.

As for the wedding reception itself… perfect. I won’t go into detail (because I know most people using this site do so for private travel rather than family functions) but we couldn’t have been in safer hands.

In short, we all had a truly wonderful weekend.

My sheer laziness meant that I never got to enjoy the other facilities, but those who chose to swim/workout/exfoliate had a great time.

The “New And Improved” Dunblane Hydro is nothing less than outstanding.
Everyone present in our group would agree – and will hopefully spread the word!

Nice hotel, shame about the plumbing!

from StickyToffeeQueen
We enjoyed a two night stay here in September with a large group of friends. The hotel has recently undergone major refurbishment which is not quite finished yet. Our room was on the ground floor in the new block and it was very comfortable, quite spacious and spotlessly clean with a comfortable bed, flat screen tv and all the usual coffee/tea making facilities. The bathroom was clean and bright with Neutrogena toiletries. The food did take a long time to come on the first night (they had a full restaurant and apparently there was a wedding as well) but it was worth waiting for - delicious and beautifully presented. However we had a similar experience the second night so I think the organisation in the kitchen could be better - perhaps they just need more staff. Breakfast was buffet style with a selection of juices, cereals, pastries, cold meats & cheeses and the usual cooked stuff. I would say that they could have provided baskets of fresh fruit for those who preferred a healthy option. The staff were all very polite and helpful. I agree with the previous reviewer who said there was debris everywhere - the painters were papering the corridor and they did leave the carpet in a bit of a mess but it wasn`t that bad. One thing I wasn`t too impressed with was the plumbing in our bathroom. Basically, the toilet just didn`t flush properly. There just wasn`t enough water in the flush - it was just a trickle. I mentioned this as we were going for breakfast the first morning and by the time we went back to our room, it had been sorted. However, after that it was just the same so I reckon they need to do something about that as we spent the whole weekend traipsing along the corridor to use the public loos. The decor is unusual - shades of aubergine and grey - and some of the public areas are quite dimly lit. I loved the huge black and white photographs of woodland and mountain scenes which were everywhere! I would definitely go back to this hotel.

Never again!

On arrival our room was not ready & did not become available until 4.35p.m. Work had been carried out in the corridor leading to our room and the debries remained on carpet overnight. Meal in Bistro was OK(just.) Breakfast was inedible. Bacon and sausages looked as if they had been boiled rather than grilled or fried. I went into Bridge of Allan for breakfast which was delicious. Staff could not care whither you were there or not. Appolling!
