We were travelling in Scotland and had been told by friends to look for the Huntingdon Hotel if we visited Dumfries. That was a great recomendation we stayed one night and it was without a doubt the best small hotel we had stayed in The owners were very friendly and could not have made us more welcome. Terry and Lynn are a great couple and know how to make guests comfortable. We will stay there if we visit Dumfries in the futere and recommend the hotel to anyone looking for a great hotel at a reasonble price with excellent parking. Hope to return soon and to stay longer next time.

I have frequently stayed at the Huntington House Hotel, feeling as welcome as I did I felt a certain loyalty the hotel. Feeling I should return there 99% of the times I visit the beautiful town of dumfries. Terry and Lyn are the most welcoming family people I have ever met. Thanks for the good times guys.

We stayed at the hotel for a wedding and it was outstanding. Terry and Lynn were great: helpful, friendly and talkative. Hotel was immaculate and the service was first class. The hotel was full and we didn't have to wait more than 2 minutes for anything whether it be breakfast, drinks at the bar or any other service. Some 4 and 5 star hotels have had poorer accomodation, appalling service and you felt like the guests were on a conveyor belt. Would be first choice if we were staying in the area again.

After a bad choice on the first night in Dumfries, we found the Huntingdon House Hotel on the second day. From the minute we entered it was like being greeted by an old friend. Terry was very welcome and a it felt like we were coming back as regulars. The accomodation was clean tidy and very fresh. The room was lovely and Terry and Lynn offered us wine and strawberries to welcome us after our experience the night before. The stay helped make our weekend very special, thanks Terry and Lynn.

Huntington House Hotel was taken over at the beginning of September 2005 by an enthusiastic husband and wife team, Lyn and Terry Hawkins. Six of us, all adults, were made extremely welcome by them during our long weekend stay from 15th to 18th of September. The d├ęcor was spotless, we wanted for nothing in our rooms, and there was a clean, pleasant bar for anyone not wanting to walk into the nearby town centre (5 minutes away)

As we were new to the area Terry spent a lot of time helping us to find local places of interest and beauty spots, with a new suggested route map made out each morning by breakfast, just in case we were short of ideas. Breakfast was always cooked impeccably and we were able to order exactly what we wanted the night before, allowing our choice of food to be served within 2 minutes of sitting down.

With many improvements to the hotel planned this couple will go far. Thank you for making our stay a very happy experience.

Top Local Tips for Dumfries

7Stanes Mountain Bike Parks They are exceptional. Get there early though as they do attract crowds by midday. Kirroughtree was my favourite, followed by Ae, Dalbeattie then Mabie. This is if you are a good MTB rider with a dual suspension bike. You'll need at least 120mm rear travel to really get into Kirroughtree and Ae - family tracks are available at Mabie and Dalbeattie. Get on the 7Stanes website for maps and all the info you could ever need. www.7stanes.gov.uk

Eating out Check out the Swan Hotel at Kingholm Quay.

Local Knowledge If you want to know anything about the locality - where to go - what to see - places worth visiting - good place to eat - ASK Terry or Lynne, they are a fount of information.
