my daughters wedding was at the friars carse 2 weeks ago. the wedding coordinator changed 3 times, and on the day the coordinator took the day off to go to another wedding as a guest! the main course for our meal was awful! the chicken dish had a bland white sauce, the vegetarian dish was average, and the salad consisted of half a tomato, 2 pieces of cucumber, some lettuce leaves, and cheap "see through" ham from a packet. they didnt even have salad dressing or mayonaise when requested. at night the bar was 5 deep most of the night and took 30 minutes each time you went for a round of drinks. they ran out of bottled lager, vodka, lemonade, coke and cider!!!! There were several other things that went wrong, too many to list!If you are thinking of having your wedding there think again!! Friars Carse is in a beautiful setting but apart from that its grim!

Wedding from hell

We are getting married on the 11th August at Crichton, Dumfries and we booked the whole of the Friars Carse hotel for ourselves and guests to stay in the night of the wedding - 16 double rooms, 3 singles, a family room and a twin room. They had a wedding on the next day but we were assured that the night before they just needed the bridal suite. In late June we were told that we could only have 10 doubles and 2 single rooms but they could accommodate 3 couples in cottages. Two weeks before the wedding we were told we couldn't get the cottages but the rest of the guests could be accommodated in another hotel over 5 miles away. Now today one week to the wedding we received a phonecall telling us our whole wedding party was being moved to another hotel in Dumfries as our rooms are being given to the wedding party for the wedding the next day. Not only that but the hotel doesn't have enough double rooms so couples are to be accommodated in twin or single rooms and there is no room for the bride and grooms two toddler children as none of the rooms are big enough for cots. Would you trust this hotel with your wedding or party or even short break - don't think so.

Don't Go There!

If you want my advice, don't go there. The rooms are a bit tired and in need of decoration. The restaurant serves those 'posh' meals; you know the type; small portions at very high prices. Getting to the hotel is a nightmare as the half-mile or so of dirt track that passes for a road is in serious need of repair with deep potholes and flooding when it rains. And there there's the "Panelled Snooker Room"; the main reason we decided to book there. There were six cues but only one had a tip. The chalk (yes, only one piece) was worn almost through to the other side. Two of the cushion rails were loose so the balls just sort of settled against it rather than bounced. There was a large chip out of the cue ball. The rests were falling to pieces. Oh, and most important of all, they declined to reply to my letter mentioning these points.
