Fairytale Wedding

Stayed at Comlongon Castle in Dumfrieshire for a winter wedding. Was a wonderful experience - beautiful setting and grounds, wedding took place in the 14th Century Keep attached to the Castle. A Scottish Piper led the guests from the hotel round the grounds to the keep - up a stone spiral staircase into a beautiful room with a log fire burning. Definitely a fairytale wedding. Hotel is family owned and run and we got wonderful service throughout the stay. Rooms are fabulous - ours had a very large jaccuzzi bathroom, four poster bed, champagne and chocs delivered, breakfast served in our room. Evening meal excellent, followed by a firework display organised by hotel, and then a Ceilidh Band entertained all the guests.Would love to go again.

Wonderful Experience at Comlongon Castle

We have enjoyed the hospitality of Comlongon Castle several times over the past few years and thought every experience there was wonderful. The castle staff was friendly and helpful, and the food and drink were excellent every time. The fact that the owner of the hotel took us on a guided tour of the keep was one of the highlights of our stay. We would definitely stay at Comlongon again. We stayed in the suite with the turret and it felt like a fairy-tale experience. The hotel is warm and inviting and we also got to enjoy a great fireworks display. The staff takes the time to get to know you and you feel at home almost immediately. Comlongon Castle is a great place to stay.

My partner and I have just had our Civil Ceremony in the Castle,which was an absolute dream come true.The Castle,The setting ,The Staff,The food were all First Class.We spent two nights at the castle and had 77 guests,and the way the whole weekend was organised and delivered by the staff was amazing.Our guests could not believe the choices that were available on the menu to choose from and all the guests have stressed to us how perfect the whole experience was in every way.It is very romantic,with big windows overlooking beautiful grounds.......who needs TV!! We were made to feel that the Castle was our "home"for the weekend and have only Praise for ALL that was involved in making our day AMAZING.A great job,Thank You

Dream Wedding five star all the way

My Husband and i had our dream wedding at this unique venue.
The staff at comlongon are so friendly and helpful you just cant find fault. The food is Excellent the views are Fabulous and the whole day was just beautiful ! All our guests were blown away with this castle.I want to get devorced just so i can do it all again.
Every one has told me that it really was the best wedding they have ever been to , and i agree ,it started with a reception welcome buffet then the wedding in the tower,,then photos ,then food, then the doves, then a celtic blessing at night in the tower with a huge open fire ,then the band ,then the fire works ,what more could a girl want i loved every last second.

Fantastic Location

We recently held our wedding and reception within Comlongon and can honestly say I wouldn’t have changed any part of the day. The venue was absolutely fantastic we had 80 guests during the day which rose to 125 in the evening, all of whom the venue handled with ease. The Castle itself is magnificent, everything from the Great Hall to the Gardens were in immaculate condition. The honeymoon suite in which my wife and I were accommodated was one of the most luxurious rooms either of us had seen from our numerous visits to many a hotel around the world and we received many positive views from our friends and family accommodated in the castles other rooms, all of which are of the same standard.
The quality and presentation of the meal provided will never truly be understood until you visit for yourself, as no words can do it justice. All our guests now talk about was the food we received that day (which doesn’t please my wife to much!!!), we have even received wedding pictures from many of our guests many of which contain pictures of the food itself.
Overall our visit to Comlongon I can only describe as a fairytale, which is exactly how my wife, like many others, wanted our wedding day to be remembered as. And this was achieved purely due to the Venue and the quality of service Comlongon provided us with.

Beautiful location ... but a total rip-off

How to ruin a beautiful castle with a truly dreadful experience in staying. Rooms overpriced (£200+) per night when the TV did not work, a sink was out of order and no shower!!

If you're going for a wedding, stay in one of the many B&Bs nearby instead!!

I am particularly glad that this review was posted. Until this time I was unaware of the importance, even indeed, of the existance of TripAdvisor. Having spent time examining the web site we are whole-heartedly behind the ethos and aims of this review site. We have now undertaken a complete rethink of how we obtain guest feed-back.
It is disappointing that our first contact with this site is from this client. The reviewer refused to check out from his room, delaying the check-in of another client, and was offered a late check out charge at extra cost , paid upon departure but later disputed.
Any aspect of our home that is not up to our stringent standards will be reviewed and rectified swiftly.
We not only issue guest comment`s cards but now specifically recommend guests to leave their comments on TripAdvisor.

nice castle for weddings - rooms not so good

We stayed at Comlongdon castle for a friends wedding.
The castle where the wedding actually takes place is only a small part of theis property - the hotel has been built on but is still really old.
This venue would only be suitable for quite small wedding parties - not over 30 people.
The castle itself is a lovely setting for a wedding (usually in the great hall) be warned there is a small uneven stone staircase up to this room!! An large open fire kept the hall warm & it was good to look around the rest of the building including the dungeons.
The grounds are lovely & great for wedding photos.

The buffet for the wedding was just a few (dry) sandwiches, volo vents & chicken kebabs - ok if youre not hungry or vegetarian!
The food in the evening was fantastic & could not be faulted, the staff were all lovely & really helpful
Breakfast was adaquate, nice presented but there were not enough tables available for everyone to sit down.

The rooms - were average size & quite warm which was good.
Our bathroom didnt have a proper shower, it had one you can use over the bath but no where on the wall to attach it. The bathroom floor was dirty & there was a very limited supply of tea/coffee.
We did not even have a remote control for the tv.
Noise travels easily around the hotel not only from other guests but also from the evenings entertainment. We went to bed before the evening function finished but were kept awake by the noise of the band (who were very good by the way) and the other guests

We take seriously all reviews. Your comments about our rooms are valid, to a point. We have 14 suites all individually themed and designed. Our best 5 honeymoon suites with en-suite Jacuzzi`s are incredibly good value for money, but to be honest our worst three rooms were nowhere near the same standard. We have taken steps to rectify this over the last few month`s and now can announce they are of similar quality to our very best rooms. (Of course they are half the price of our best rooms)
It is difficult with a property of this age and design to make all rooms of the same size, standard and luxury, especially with the constraints that are placed upon us, but we feel we have achieved this over the last few months. Photographs of our upgrades are available on our web-site.
Obviously some rooms are larger than others and have better views than some.
Please feel free to contact me if you have the opportunity to return and I will personally arrange to give you a tour of our facilities and renovations.

Loved the friendly feel to the hotel

We stayed here for our 10th wedding anniversary and had one of the fabulous suite rooms over looking the gardens. The hotel itself was extremely clean and tidy and kept to a very high standard, the staff were also excellent and nothing was a bother to them. We also had a meal in the restaurant and this was also fabulous with the setting to the restaurant to match the mood of the occasion. Breakfast was served in the suite, brought on time and they also use local produce. I would definitely stay here again. Thanks for a lovely time!

The Perfect Wedding

I was lucky enough to attend a Weding here on the 10th June and it was just perfect. We stayed in the hotel which is medieval and so the rooms have a lot of character. It was very clean and the staff and service was brilliant. The wedding its self was perfect and no-one could have asked for more. We took over the whole hotel and this made it even more personal. The ceremony took place in the castle part of the building and then the wedding breakfast was in the banqueting hall and both were fantastic. The evening entertainment were 2 Scottish men who sang and played instruments and they were great fun aswell. I cant rave about this place enough and i would whole heartedly recommend this Castle to any one wanting a small and personal Wedding. It was all just perfect, well done Comlongon!!!!!!!

Top Local Tips for Dumfries

Arts Festival The Castle at Comlongon is very close to the Scotland-england border and is caught up in the romance of the disputed border lands - lovely wedding ceremonies with all the celtic blessings. No doubt the Reivers would have trafficked stolen cattle in this area in times gone by - the original castle was built in the 14/1500s. Dumfries and Galloway is massive and worth exploring. They have arts festivals and exhibitions throughout the region especially in spring and autumn Henry Moore sculptures in the hills and artists workshops dotted about all over the place.

Civil Partnership Have your Cermony here the staff are all open minded and they were very welcoming and nothing is a problem for them.
