Below is shown a letter sent by me to the hotel as instucted. As yet, I have recieved no reply. It is not as you would expect from the web site
Dear Ms Hook,

My wife and I stayed at your hotel for 1 night on
23rd June, occupying room 35.

We booked the room by phone some 1 hour before arrival having seen your advert in a magazine. Upon arrival the receptionist informed us that the room was in the annexe and confirmed that the price would be £40.00 per person on a bed and breakfast basis and this we accepted.

On arriving at the room we first attempted to make a cup of tea only to find that all of the cups and the teapot were dirty and that there was no milk. This was reported to reception by me as I was unable to raise anyone on the telephone. This as it turned out was only the first of the deficiencies in the room, the remainder I have listed below:

•bedroom curtains not fixed making it difficult to pull them effectively, they were also too long;
•no heat in the bedroom except an inadequate electric radiator;
•the bedroom carpet did not fit the room and hence the gap between the carpet and the walls was dirty;
•TV controls did not operate;
•bathroom light over the mirror did not work;
•bathroom had cobwebs;
•no heat in the bathroom;
•the fan rumbled when on and was also covered in cobwebs;
•bath panel and the tiles adjacent to it were broken with sharp edges protruding;
•the shower would not give a constant stream of water but pulsated.

I did bring these defects to the attention of the receptionist upon leaving but was told that there was no complaints procedure other than writing in the registration book and this did not seem appropriate.

Having viewed your advert in the Northern Highlands visitor guide for 2006 I believe that this room is definitely not reflected in your advertisement and that the forty pounds per person for a room with the deficiencies outlined above is not good value for money.

I look forward to a response at your earliest convenience.
