Lovely hotel, friendly staff

My partner and I stayed at this hotel one weekend in August for a break and the hotel was lovely. We had friendly staff, clean rooms with all the things you would expect in the room and was offered fresh milk if we wanted it with our tea or coffee in the room. Breakfast was tasty and the hotel views were spectacular. We would recommend this type of hotel to anyone who wants to get a way from it all and have a quiet break.

This hotel relies on its location and lack of competition in the area. It is poor, there is no other way of saying it. The room furniture was old and worn, even the bed sagged in the middle, stained and patched carpet. We only had breakfast, that was unappealing with luke warm bacon and sausage and scrambled egg that had turned black. Getting a hot drink was difficult, when we did manage to stop a waitress, we were given coffee instead of tea.
The public rooms were also looking very tired and had a musty smell about them.
For £100 per night, this hotel is to be avoided.

We visited this Country House Hotel in a stunning location that could be described as 'Garden of Eden with a Sea View'.
We didn't expect Central London service, we went with the flow, and found this a rewarding experience. There are not too many Hotels where you can sit in front of a log fire chatting to the owner over a pleasant drink discussing culture.
Works of art adorn every wall - this is NOT an ordinary Hotel!

Chose the taster menu (overpriced) and sat down to eat at 8.30 (30 mins later than agreed and 45 mins after arriving). Menu disappointing and changes made without explanation. Long periods between courses including a 20 minute wait for cheese (which was ordered prior to sitting down for the meal). No comment on coffee as having spent in excess of 2 hrs and 30 mins at the table had run out of patience. Would not visit again.
Great wedding shame about the hotel

We visited for a wedding and had a great time at the wedding. Altough the hotel was a not up to scratch. We had a dirty room on check in, hairs in bathroom, dirty soap. These were quickly cleaned when we alerted them of this but is does put you off.
The food was great, but we were the only two who did not get a starter. We had to ask for it to be served, by the time it was served most of the guests were getting their main courses.
The bar prices changed throughout the night. My wife got charged less than me for the same round, and everyone else in the group got charged different prices.
The morning after the wedding, we had a cold shower and toast and tes for breakfast. This was due to a 'mains gas leak in Rockcliffe' although we later found out there is no mains gas in the village. Someone in the hotel had forgotten to change the cylinders over. The manager was rude and stormed off when we asked for a discount.
