Hotel was a digrace, broken window on the reception door {what a welcoming sight} broken window sills, decor on the ground floor passage to bedrooms sad, carpet joined with black tape bedding leaves a lot to be desired as does the food. I am Scots living in England and was totally embarrassed by the state of this hotel. It is time coach companies stopped taking people there as it is a right rip off. Staff too busy to be nice.

The staff did their best, but the hotel is run down and desperately needs a makeover and a new lift. The meals were good and the service not bad. Staff were helpful but it seemed that they were resigned and slightly embarrassed at having to work in a hotel that the management has clearly neglected. Callandar itself looks like a town that is slightly on the downward slide, in spite of all the scenery and other attractions. The Dreadnought ought to close for a few months and smarten itself up.

The place is in dire need of an extreme makeover very run down the problems with my room nearly goes into double figures i.e.; light fitting hanging loose above the bed, no snib on the Yale lock, two bulbs missing, paper hanging off the ceiling, no electric kettle, toilet took about twenty attempts for the flush to work, toilet sliding door kept jamming half open not to good when you have your mum with you, on one of the days no maid service and even when the room was done they never empted the bin in the toilet and my mum uses a colostomy bag (a bag that collects poo) understaffing seemed a problem most of the room problems were sorted apart from the toilet door and the toilet flush well there was an attempt to fix them (promises) they were a bit better if you lifted door up as you closed it and flushing was iffy, on the + side the view was great from the room my mum only stuck it out for two days out of the four we had booked oh I forgot about the lift its one of those without an inner door stand well back if you can (a bit tight) and watch the different levels go by, another plus the meals were good and decent size portions as well the dining staff done a great job considering the staff shortages even the person on reception was helping out in the kitchen, going back to the state of repair they have been painting and it certainly wasn’t a paper and decorator that did it in my opinion in the dining room whoever picked the colour scheme must be colour blind in my opinion the hotel is ideal for stag nights or hen parties and they don’t need to worry about making a mess of the hotel I must be missing something as the hotel seemed to be full must be the lure of cheap standard rates and s-- standard rooms not recommended. Regards Barry.
