Extremely comfortable yet in no way "fancy" room, pleasantly "quirky" and honest, family-run hotel wth owners on-site at all times.
Brilliant value and great staff. If you are looking for a "*****Marriot in Blairgowrie" then forget it.
If however you want to stay in a magnificent and historical family home, retain the freedom of an hotel guest yet stll be a treated as a person instead of a credit card number then this is a veritable "home from home".
If you happen to arrive when the owners are having dinner they will genuinely invite you to join them, ask you to consider ignoring the menu and "have what the chef made for us". This is not usual.
I live in hotels all over the world on a weekly basis and have seen all things possible (and impossible)over many years, hotels of all types and star ratings.
Therefore I think I know a good one when I find it (unless you are impressed by 17 choices of pillows, c.c. number before you even dare ask for a glass of water and here is a form to fill out to judge your satisfaction at check out time - personally that does not "wow" me).
This is not a "mass-produced" place - try it and experience what hotels and hospitality in that part of the world really means (when was the last time you were asked when you would prefer to have dinner instead of being told when dinner was available)?
I fish on the Tay when I am there, every minute of every day is precious (I live on the other side of the world)- Altamount "ticks all the boxes".
I have no hesitation whatsoever in hosting a fishing week there with some valued friends, I just know they will feel "at home". This is a "real" place. If you have never found one of those before, then I implore you to try it. Like great vintages, rare, and to be savoured.
