Health & Safety Would Have A Field Day

I was absolutely horrified when I arrived at this hotel for a weekend with my partner. After reading the description of the hotel in comparison with others of similar price range in the area, I opted for the Soprano st magnus. Celebrating my partners 30th Birthday I wanted everything to be special. I thought my eyes were deceiving me when I walked through the door of this hotel! There were live wires hanging from the roof, the walls were half plastered with no decoration, there was a middle aged alcoholic sleeping on a very shabby & torn couch outside our room the whole weekend and the general impression overall was disgusting. And this was before I had even reached my room. I specifically asked for a sea view and was guaranteed the best room in the hotel, the member of staff didnt mention the only room facing the sea was a tiny corner window where 2 very distant ships were visible and no water. The carpets (once cream) were dirty and off colour with numerous stains, the bathroom was ok but the level of noise coming from the hotel and the surrounding area was excessive. I was glad to get home after my stay in this hotel. My glee was shortlived however when I arrived home to open an email from the hotel advising me I was being charged £650.00 to replace their carpet and have their wall repainted. I have had to ask the management to refrain from contacting me on a works email address which was only ever given to laterooms.com for booking purposes. I would say this has to be the worst hotel with regards to image, comfort and management I have ever came across and probably ever will. This stay has sincerely put me off staying in hotels again and I am a regular visitor to numerous hotels.

We have stayed here twice in 4 months, on both occasions the staff were very helpful, The hotel has improved a lot since our first stay. It does say it is undergoing refurbishment, it was just right for us as we were visiting family. As we were a long way from home we felt safe, everything is on the doorstep, area is improving, and we had a overnight car park up the road, both times no bother. Would go back, thanks to the staff for their help.

Awful smelly hotel, although my room had been refurbished (god knows what the others are like). Plastic table cloths and sauce bottles on the table. Really rough area near the docks. Avoid it if possible!

In my opinion and without prejudice this hotel is on a par with the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. The entrance is shabby, the room was small and very basic. The tea and coffee facilities were very poor and placed on a very decorate paper serviette with stains on!. The bed linen was something that had seen better days and was stained. The bathroom was ok and clean. The breakfast the folllowing morning was poor, my toast brought out to me was totally burnt and the waiter even knew this as he served me as he said "if I didn't like the look of the toast he could get me some more"! It was totally cindered of course it was no good!. All in all the worst stay I can remember for a long time.

Great location next to the harbour, railway station and main shops and restaurants. Very friendly staff with a family welcome. Only served breakfasts but surrounded by good restaurants. Rooms modern, comfortable and clean with most facilities. Other facilities and public rooms limited. Value for money in a city where it was difficult to get a central room.
