I phoned to get a price for the room as their website didn't even give a price, and to be honest... That should have been the International sign for "stay elsewhere". Alas, vision is always 20/20 in hindsight!
The reception area is very inviting. The staff seemed warm and friendly and the surroundings very comfortable. If I had been sleeping in the foyer, i'd have been a lot happier, but unfortunately we were staying in one of the shoebox sized rooms. Seemingly the Motherwell Football Club were also resident for the weekend, but i'm sure they won't be back. And after our experience, neither shall we.
Now, I understand that Air Conditioning is not normally nessecary in Northern Ireland, but most Hotels I have stayed in have had it anyway. And I know that the Hotel cannot be held responsible for the heatwave that was experienced here that weekend, but leaving the windows open was impossible as the courtyard area was accessible to the public and the rooms on the groundfloor would have been easily entered through the unsecured windows. They were either open or closed. If open they could be opened very wide... they did have a small child safety device, but this was easily removed from the outside!
The food was mediocre and the service was similar. The staff seemed disinterested in you once you had checked in... even when you were trying to check out... which took almost 20 minutes!
Other guests we spoke to were told their rooms were not ready at 3.30pm, even though they were due to book in at 3pm. They were then shown to another room which had yet to be serviced. Their third room, however, was at least ready.
I won't go on... Although I really could... for quite some time. Needless to say, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone. Stay in the Dunadry down the road a bit. We will!
