Poor Overall

On arrival, the hotel looked very clean & the staff were reasonably helpful apart from the fact we had to lug our luggage up 2 flights of stairs with no help whatsoever. Then we had to find our room, which by the time we had stressed and pulled lots of muscles. We forgot we were we were told to go. The room was clean but the decor was a bit dingy and dark. No shower in the bathroom, also had lots of hair around the plug hole in the bath. Dinner... Every night the food was quite delicious with fancy sauces, although the vegetables were a bit crunchy for my liking, the waitress also spilt red wine sauce all over my husbands shirt. The food came in small portions, and I felt as if I hadn’t really eaten dinner, just had a couple of slices of bread or so on. Overall the hotel was okay. Would not go to this hotel again, would not recommend, but will definitely go to isle of wight later on in the year.

Good choice of destination - Shame about Hotel

Sea view OK - after you've looked at Main Road - Taxi Rank - Bus station - Rail Line and hovercraft port. (Noise to go with these). A working shower would have been great. Staff very indifferent to customer needs. The food was of a poor standard and often cold. We have stayed many times in Shearings Hotels but this is the last time.

Excellent Value

My wife and I stayed at the hotel in the first week of March. The hotel is well situated on the seafront in the town of Ryde. Ryde is the largest town on the island and has shops, restaurants, etc, within walking distance of the hotel. The town is also well situated for travelling about the island with buses to most places, the east coast train and the hovercraft terminal (for Portsmouth) next to the hotel. We paid extra for a sea view which is well worth it. Facing the Solent you do not just see an expanse of blue but a busy seaway with views across to Portsmouth, Hayling Island and the entrance to Southampton Water. There is something happening all the time. My wife loved to spend a few minutes watching the activity whilst having a relaxing tea or coffee provided in the room. However, since we were blessed with good weather we were rarely in the room in the daytime! The room was also a good size. The food was well presented with ample portions from a choice of about 3 starters, 5 main courses and 5 sweets from a menu which changed every day. The service in the restaurant was also to be commended. Both quick and efficient. Most of the staff were young and foreign and friendly without being over-familier. The reception staff were also friendly and helpful. The public rooms appear to have been recently redecorated with new carpets and furniture. There is included evening entertainment although space for the number of guests is limited and the dance floor is only a postage stamp. For what we paid the hotel, and the (Shearings) holiday of which it formed part, were excellent value for money.

We have just returned from a wonderful shearings holiday at this hotel on the isle of wight. And for the amount of money we payed, the service and standards were high with comfortable rooms and the added bonus of helpul and friendly staff. They seem to enjoy there work which I'm sure is down to the very charismatic french manager who has great zest for life and made all us oldies feel very young in deed well done!! I would definitely recommend this hotel. It is situated very well with hover, buses and sea cat all just across the road.

This is a great Hotel if you want to be well cared for!! The manager mixes with the guests and makes everyone feel special. The waitresses, waiters and staff are the best we have come across. Meals are varied and very good. The room we had was very spacious and very clean with en-suite that was larger than many hotels. The entertainment was varied and available nightly. If you want somewhere to stay on the Island then try this Hotel!!

I stayed for 5 days here with my 10 year old granddaughter, and we had a lovely time. The staff were all helpful, and informative and the French Manager John -Luke, was most welcoming and gave my granddaughter a lot of time which made her feel special. This is our second year staying at this hotel, and I am sure we will be back again!
