A little bit upset at the last review. We also shared the bathroom with other guests and had no problem at all. The food was wonderful the service polite. James made us feel very welcome and at home. The bedroom,granted was basic but as Jill stated we did not wish to spend our trip to Orkney in our bedroom. The wine list was adequate and reasonably priced. Yes you can fault any hotel but we would return to Woodwick tomorrow if we could.

I have to say John has no idea what he is talking about. I feel he is an individual looking for his own home in a hotel. The house dates back and this gives it a unique atmosphere where I was warmed and shown around by a very friendly member of staff. The food was of highest quality where they used organic and local produce which was cooked in their age. This was a beautiful feature where you wouldn’t find this in many country houses. The menu changed every evening so I knew I was eating fresh food and this gave a welcome change to a standard menu. The grounds are beautiful where Woodwick House of one of the only areas in Orkney that is surrounded by trees and bluebells as well as a short walk down to the shore following the burn on route. Yes, the rooms are simply decorated but I was not in Orkney to spend my time in the hotel room. Also, they have 2 well furnished sitting rooms equipped with a fire and a library as well as local information. Finally, this is a simple country house but it is the many unique features that make this a beautiful place to stay.

With a late booking, we stayed in the twin room and to be fair to the owner, were advised that we would be sharing a bathroom. However, what we didn't know was that we would be sharing the bathroom, which had one bath with a shower attachment over it, with 7 (SEVEN) other people. To add to our discomfort, our room was right next to this communal bathroom so that we were kept in touch with the other guests "personal plumbing noises" throughout the long nights. On our second morning I called the owner, James, up to see the hair and detritus in the bath from the last person to use it and he then cleaned out the bath himself. Our room was very small and basic with only one chair, which we couldn't sit on because it had a broken leg. We also had to ask for a kettle to make tea in our room. The dining room was very cramped and the food was only of very average quality and so we ate out on our last night of three. On the first night the potatoes with the main course were mashed with horseradish, which is fine if one likes horseradish but not everybody does and we didn't. All in all, this was one of the worst B&Bs/Hotels that we had ever stayed in; so concerned were we, that we officially complained to the Orkney Tourist Bureau in Stromness who later wrote to us about this hotel. In summary, this hotel is a very poor advert for the Orkney Islands.
