Just got back from a stay at this hotel. The staff were excellent and we found the food really good - and very good value. No problems with the room / standards of cleanliness. Not a 10 as the location is a fair walk from the centre. Jersey is pretty and all that, and the people friendly and very polite, but I'd never recommend it as a family holiday. If the sun doesn't shine there is very little to amuse kids with - St Hellier in particular has made little effort - just a very poor swimming pool and a play zone over looking the town, which they don't seem to advertise at all (fort regent)The pubs / restaurants are good - but again pitched mostly away from families. So I'd go back when our kid have grown up - but not before.

The one good thing about this place, that warrants pushing the rating up from a one to a three, is the restaurant. Although the food was decidedly average, the restaurant staff were excellent and always worked hard to please. The room was appalling. I think the island has been left behind a bit in the hotel stakes, and what we have come to expect on the mainland as a minimum standard is nothing short of opulence here. The room stank of cigarette smoke and the second day saw an infestation of ants. I photographed the shower head and the waste of the shower tray - that's always a pretty good indication of the standard of a hotel. The pool looked grubby and not well attended to. I wouldn't have gone in it even if the weather had been kinder. My recommendation - well, never again!!

My wife and I have just come back from jersey today, I had booked this hotel after seeing it on the net.what a fantastic group of staff this hotel has, especially in the dining room. The food was excellent - full English or continental and a four course evening meal with home made soups/fresh veg and a varied main on the four nights we stayed . We also got drinks included in the price 12pm to 2pm and 6pm to 11pm. The location was good being 10 min from town but far enough away to get a good nights sleep in a very big bed. The heated pool was small and the bar area cozy. All the rooms and reception areas were very clean. So why not 9 or 10..... Most people did stay in the hotel at night after a hard day at the beach but we only had entertainment on one night. Also the rooms were a bit dated and were ready for a lick of paint. Overall we thought it was great value for money.

Spent a week in room 2 at this hotel and it was awful. The carpet was very dirty didn't like walking barefoot. Rattling door, broken bath panel need I go on. The swimming pool was not heated (although advertised as so) and dirty. Restaurant and food was good though. Would not return.

I stayed in the Washington Hotel during the summer of last year. It was a little old fashioned, but the staff were efficient, and the hotel itself is situated in a nicely quiet road 10 minutes stroll from the centre of St.Helier.
I had intended to rebook this year. However it's come to my attention that the hotel - a simple 3 storey building - is now in the process of placing 3 mobile phone masts, 6 mobile phone antenna and a dish on the roof. If you're a guest on the upper floor, that rather large nest of electronic emitters will be roughly just 10 feet above your head, pumping out and sucking in electrocmagntic radiation 24 hours a day. I'm fully aware of the possible danger to health of such mobile phone mast emissions, so I will never be staying at the Washington again. I'll be making a new choice from one the island's hotels without a selection of mobile phone masts on the roof - and so far my research shows that to be almost every Hotel in Jersey except the Washington!
I find it rather disturbing that the Hotel have kept this particular aspect of 'redevelopment' quiet, thus effectively removing any choice from those guests not wanting to be spend their holiday directly beneath a selection of mobile phone transmitters, signal boosters and receivers
Shame on you Washington, I would love to have returned this year, but until you lose those mobile phone masts, you've lost this customer.
That said, If the health issues related to mobile phone masts are not of a worry to you, I wouldn't hesistate to reccomend the Washington. It really is a nice, clean (if somewhat dated) Hotel, good for the older guest who's after 1980's style cabaret entertainment at night.
If I had reviewed the hotel after my stay last year (before I knew tripadvisor existed!), I would have rated it probably 8 stars from the point of view of an older guest (I personally think it would be a little 'fuddy-duddy' for the younger generations!). However, in light of the mobile phone mast development - and the way they hide thi issue frompotential guests - I'm giving them the lowest grade possible.

I have just come back (in the last hour) from my family holiday in Jersey, staying in the Washington hotel. The hotel is part of a small chain of businesses in Jersey - there is a campsite, Queens hotel (in st helier) and of course Washington hotel. All guests can use the facilities in the other hotel and campsite.
Washington hotel being in st helier is only minutes away from restaurants, shops and tourist attractions. We did bed and breakfast, then ate out in st helier every night.
The staff were really friendly and approachable, and they were more than happy to help us!
The rooms were average but the beds were really comfortable. There was a bar, a lounge, a conservatery, pool, games room and restaurant.
The bar had sky tv so we could watch the football games in the evening!
Whilst we were there a local musician sang twice and there was a jewellery sale.
The breakfasts were lovely - there was full english breakfast and continental.
If you do go to Jersey I reccomend that you should stay at the Washington hotel. The furnishings were slightly dated but the staff make up for it, it was the one of the best holidays I have had with my family!

Went all inclusive in school holidays. All the staff were committed to making everyone\'s stay a good one. The restaurant and kitchen staff clearly knew their stuff. The hotel was always kept clean. The facilities were good and everything working. However we felt the entertainment of club singer with karaoke machine was outdated. He was on two nights of the week playing to 3/4 couples whilst the rest of us sat in the front lounge. Maybe some acoustic musicians from local clubs would have blended in with the hotel\'s relaxed atmosphere better.
