Remember 70's Sitcom about a hotel in devon

If you remember the programme, the owner never liked customers, they were a pain in the backside, well, guess what; they may have retired to Jersey. Waiters were that slow they carried one plate at a time back and forth to the kitchen, kept you waiting and ignored you perhaps they didn't understand me coming from the Midlands. Believe me the spanish waiter portrayed in the sitcom is alive and kicking and as confused as ever. Our daughters case got damaged from the time it was carried by the waiter (I only knew this the next day at breakfast)up the stairs as there is no lift to the room. I commented to the receptionist that He was going red in the face and was struggling with it. Now then, when my daughter and I entered the room a piece of the case was on the floor, so we have two witnesses, however; the waiter had not done it and was the only witness of the hotel, no surprise that the management believed the Waiter, so we must have took a hammer to it and done the damage ourselves. Then we went to the bedroom that My wife and I was allocated as we were told it was ready to find guess what; it wasn't. We were allocated a new room after the bride-to-be spoke with the management and I thought I was actually in THE SET of the original sitcom. Wardrobes doors hung skewed, decor from the 70's and the laminate floor in the bathroom obviously fitted by the waiter, bellowed in the middle as you walked on it, perhaps no one told him it should have been floating and the sealant around the edges applied with a trowel. We only stayed at this hotel to be with the rest of the wedding party. The wedding was brilliant and the guests many from Jersey made us feel at home, very friendly and good company, but for any of you young enough to remember the sitcom that I refer to it will make you smile at least, it may cost you the price of a new suitcase or some time off work as a result of the wobbly handrails. But fear not, don't expect the management to be sympathetic because in this hotel the Customer is never right only a pain in the backside. I do go to Jersey on and off and suggest for the extra money you stay at the Grand. They have proper porters and waiters and management that put the Customers first. So next time We are in Jersey guess where We will stay.

Top Local Tips for Jersey

Tunnel Avoid the mistake of walking into St Helier from Havres Des Pas by using the heavilly-polluted traffic tunnel in between.

Taxi versus bus Buses are reliable so walk a bit & spend £1.50 on bus getting to airport (No. 15), rather than spend £12 on a taxi

Getting about Walk around St Helier. The one way system is confusing for visitors travelling by car. Park at the Waterfront car park, and walk into St Helier. The free street maps are excellent, and available from the tourist informtaion centre near the waterfront car park.
