In the summer everything looks even better that I remembered the Hanging Baskets were out all around the hotel the garden and pool area were great for the kids as was the beach just 50yards away.
Plenty of Freshly Caught Seafood was on offer which the good lady loved, The kids were well impressed with their food choices and the Huge Steaks and Ribs kept me very happy.
I dont know if its the sea air or the very comfortable beds that were the reason we all slept like babies.
If we can get the grand parents to baby sit the kids, we might just come back for a little romance.

Checked in as was shown around the hotels facilities and taken to our room, which was very homey and clean. Asked if we were dining (as we were booked B & B) and decided to eat at the hotel.
Food was spot on and deciding between a 16oz T/Bone and a 22oz Ribeye was a real challenge so had the T/Bone that night and it was so good had the Ribeye the next night, both were cooked as I liked which is unusual in most places as I like it quite rare. Spent a few days on the Sandy Beach across the road and around the pool.
Also many evenings in the bar, this has a great atmosphere, and saw some great local acts. Would go back again in a flash.

Check in was faultless and we were shown to our room, as we walked through the Tudor Style Bar you could feel the atmosphere of a friendly place which we were to enjoy later.
The room was a nice size and you could tell had been upgraded recently the bed was very comfortable and the room had ensuite bathroom TV and Tea/Coffee making facilities.
We went for a walk and the pool and garden was nice but the weather was too cold to use that, across the road was a lovely beach and we walked to the headland, It must look lovely in the summer.
For those who like walking there are some nice walks around the area.
The food at the hotel is much better than you would expect for a 2 star hotel and the prices very reasonable, in fact they had a promotion which seemed to be all over the island for this month where you get a 2 course meal for £10 or 2 couses for £12.50 or £15.
We had a nice starter and dessert, and for the main Course I had a Wonderful Fillet Steak and my Partner Jane, had the Symphony of Fish which was Baked Cod, Sea Bass and Salmon with a Prawn Sauce Veg & New Potatoes and at £15 each that was a great deal.
On the second night we dined in style (Ate Fish and Chips on the Sea Wall at Cobo and watched the sunset)
The regular Menu is great value I had some really Tasty Ribs and Jane had a Ribeye they were both excellent, so if you like food you cant go wrong at The Wayside.
The bar was as we expected a nice place to spend the evening and the entertainment was very good,
The first night My Partner did the Line Dancing while I propped up the bar with some locals, the next night we had a guitarist in the bar for a sing along and theres a small dance floor, the last night there was a band in the ballroom which was Brilliant
All the staff did everything they could to make our short stay memorable and we will visit with them again soon
For people like us that had never been to guernsey it is a great place just to chill out and the cliff views are stunning.
I gave it a 10 because you cant expect more from a 2 Star,
As long as your not expecting a 4 Star you will be happy at The Wayside
Thanks a bunch everyone

We were shown the rooms in the hotel and they have also been re-furbished. Unless you are used to 4 stars, The Wayside will meet your needs perfectly. The food is as good as it gets anywhere and the staff are so helpful, and the regular locals are so friendly. We booked a B & B, but used the restaurant and bar for most of our meals as the choice was excellent, ranging from Bangers and Mash to Lobster therador, or cod and Chips to the most wondeful steaks and ribs. Every day there are special local dishes as well as the regular menu. The entertainment was really good and there was something most nights. The pool is lovely for a quick swim, but we also used the beach across the road on the hot days.
Thanks to Donna, Paul, David and all the other staff for a great holiday. See you again next year.

To be honest most of the guests were a little older than us but we fitted in well and met new friends while we were there. Several of the guests seem to go more than once a year and meet up at The Wayside.
The food was Wonderful, we were half board and had a different menu every night, sometimes there was fresh local fish on the menu which we enjoyed.
Breakfast was good and set us up for the day, we hired a car and saw most of the island which some of the views were breathtaking and we were blessed with great weather.
All the staff could not do enough for us and we were well taken care of. After a drive around we returned at about 4 some days to spend time around and in the pool.
The bedroom looked like new and spotlessly clean, we had ensuite bath/shower, next time we will ask for a Chalet as you can enjoy the garden and pool better from there but the hotel rooms are fine.
There's plenty of entertainment at weekends in the Bar or Ballroom and various dancing in the week.
The locals are a nice breed of people and all make you welcome, Guernsey is much nicer than Jersey in our opinion and we have found our place to stay when we go again.

Being February we decided to take a short break and chose The Wayside Cheer Hotel in Guernsey, it was quiet because of the time of year but the hotel has a good local trade and has live entertainment at the weekend even in the winter which we enjoyed.
The room was excellent and obviously all new as I believe the others are.
The food was as good as we have had anywhere even some 4 star hotels.
The staff are brilliant and really make you feel welcome so do the locals.
We have already booked to go back and see more of Guernsey next time in the sunshine (hopefully) in July.
We really think we found a gem with the Wayside Cheer Hotel and are so glad decided to take a break.

we had a winter break here and things in Guernsey do look so much better with a bit of sunshine.
The hotel is perfect for those not expecting an ultra modern hotel as the building is old but in very good condition and very clean and comfortable, the entertainment at the weekend is good and we have a cabaret show for a local charity to look forward tomorrow.
The food is as good as we remember from our last visit and is good value for money, I recommend you book B & B and dine in the bar or steakhouse in the evenings or maybe go out for a meal.
The pool looks inviting so will try that when the sun shines next and The walks along the beach at sunset are lovely
