Rude, unhelpful Manager

We stayed in La Villette in Guernsey in August 09. It was a carefully planned trip booked well in advance to attend a wedding. We were a party of 10 and had one disabled traveller with us. We booked a single disabled room amongst our bookings. The hotl booked the feerry crossing for us, and were well aware of our time of arrival, but when we arrived at 9.30 am (after 13 hours travelling) we were told we could not have our rooms until 1pm, even though they advertise 12mday check in. They did allow us to leave our luggage in the hotel, but we then had to go out until 1pm. On our return we found they had not booked the correct amount of rooms for us, which left us short of a double room- they said the double room was the "single" disabled room. To be fair the receptionist got the Manager immediately, but he was the rudest, most ubhelpful man we have ever had the misfortune to come accross!! He blamed us for our booking, despite the hotel phoning on numerous occasions prior to our arrival to check and recheck the details!(they even phoned the day before we travelled!) We acknowledged there had been a mistake made on their part and asked him what he could do to help - at this point he shook his head and walked away from us. The receptionist was left with 10 very tired guests to dea with. She eventually (maybe 2hours later) "found " us another double romm in a "fully booked hotel"
This was a shame as the hotel is lovely and in a perfect location and does have all the facilities advertised. The staff, with the exception of two reception staff, were not friendly, and did not speak - not even on the day of the wedding!!!!
We made our holiday enjoyable and unforgetable, but were made to feel like intruders.
Make sure you double check your booking here, even though it may not make a difference!!
My overall opinion of La Villette

We booked a midweek break in October and got a great deal including the fast Cat ferry crossing from Weymouth for two adults and a car. We really enjoyed our stay as La Villette is the perfect place to relax.
The staff are so friendly. They really do make you feel welcome. The hotel was having an extension built while we were there so it was quite noisy outside, but we didn't hear anything of the builders inside. We had bed and breakfast but we also ate in the bar every evening as it was reasonably priced and the locals who frequented the bar were friendly.
The bar staff and waiters were all Polish and spoke wonderful English. They always had a smile and were very willing and helpful.
Our room was small but well decorated and there was fresh tea and coffee making supplies every day. The window looked out onto a wall of the pool building. There are no sea views as it is some way from the sea.
There is a great bus service in Guernsey and you can catch a bus to town just outside the hotel.
We bought a card of twelve trips and used it the entire holiday. Great value for money was an entire tour of the island for around 60p each.
The hotel has a wonderful pool and most days we enjoyed it all to ourselves. When we did share it, or the sauna, we found that the other clients were islanders and very friendly people.
The hotel is not within reasonable walking distance of a beach. You do need a car or use the local buses if you want to see the island.
When we visited in October the nights were getting dark by 6 O'clock and there are very few street lights on the island. Don't go to Guernsey if your looking for a night life.
The hotel is close to the airport if that is your means of transport from the mainland. You can even get a bus from the airport to near the hotel.
My overall summing up of our midweek break of La Villette is that it is a small and very comfortable hotel in a pretty, leafy village. A perfect place to relax. One negative point is that Guernsey is becoming over populated. On every bit of spare land a little white bungalow is being built. Or as my husband called it, "Death by bungalow."
Great Service & Staff

This is a fabulous hotel that has great facilities for visitors. Health suite, swimming pool gym etc. complemented by great staff in a brilliant position. Very welcoming and friendly; we have stayed now both summer and New Year and have had a great experience both times.
