A comfortable and well furnished hotel in most attractive setting with views along wooded valley to sea. Staff were friendly, helpful and efficient particularly their maitre D who exercised full control over restaurant whilst presenting perfect image to diners. Food and wine of a good standard although breakfasts could be improved, mainly quality of coffee and the use of ghastly fully skimmed milk (no other milk available)which ruins any coffee. Eggs rarely cooked as requested and invariably yolks hard. Hotel rooms nicely furnished and comfortable and 24 hour complimentary tea and coffee a nice touch. Be prepared for aircraft noise starting at about 7am as hotel appears under flight path from Guernsey airport. All in all stay was a pleasant experience and I would be happy to return.

The Worst 4 Star I Have ever Spent Money on

Nobody to help you carry in your luggage, no one at the desk that tha can answer any of your questions, no formal concierge, but worse, refusal to acknowledge that a conceirge or at least someone with ability to answer questions to the traveller is obligatory for a 4 star 'gold' in fact, they call themselves...instead, for the rate you pay, they tell you to go look it up on Google, be sure to ask for the Password when you check in, or you will have to go get it yourself, rooms have no ventilation -- you can adjust by adjusting the balcony doors and windows -- that is if you can get them open. If I write more, I may have to pack up and leave tonight, especially since their check out time is emphatically 10:30. I'm just not clear any more as to what a 4 Star Hotel is. I'm scared to ask if I can print something as in a business office, for fear it will frustrate my attempt to have check in here, thinking I would get work done here, better than at the very friendly 2 and 3 stars down the street.

Too bad, a nice property with a good view, but the humbleness and extraordinary view of the Hotels on the cliff is worth the 2 mins further drive into St. Peter's Port? I think so!

Beware the loud kitchen extract fan

Lovely hotel but don't book the cheapest class of rooms as they are directly below the kitchens which have an extremely loud extract fan. And there cheapest rooms are £160 a night so I would not expect to have to put up with noise for that price!

Historical Traveller Reviews of Fermain Hotel

We will be back!

from handiman
My wife and I stayed at The Fermain Valley Hotel in August and absolutely loved it.

From the food, gardens, views and accommodation, to the incredible friendly staff. From Vera and Mario (he seems to be everywhere) who took care of us for breakfast to both Linda and Fran at reception, everyone was excellent.

Quite often you seem to find in Hotels that there is not a lot of management presence, but even that they seem to have down to a tee. When we almost missed our flight to Bournemouth, one of the managers, Mark, ran us to the airport so that we were on time.

We will be back!

Great Fermain Valley Hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
My husband and myself stayed at the Fermain Valley Hotel for one week at the beginning of September on half board basis which is something we don't always do. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food and service which was excellent. We stayed in a gold standard room although quite small it had everything we needed including a balcony with a sea view. The room was serviced twice a day with clean bedding and towels changed every day.
The staff although young and from many countries were very pleasant and helpful.
A nice touch was having tea or coffee delivered to your room 24/7 included in the cost.
Overall I would recommend this hotel and hopefully we will return again. The only downside which is beyond the control of the hotel it is under the flight path and there is some aircraft noise during the day starting about 7.00am in the morning and finishing around 9.00pm at night. This really did not effect us at all.

Probably the best place to stay on Guernsey

from stobar
My wife and I were very pleased with our week long stay at the Fermain Valley Hotel. Since it was less than a year old everywhere looked just as it did in the brochure.

The staff were friendly and helpful, the food was excellent in both the brasserie and restaurant and the location wonderful. If you like coastal walks, all of the south and west coast up to St Peter Port is easily accessible from the hotel and highly recommended.

We booked a Silver room but as it was relatively quiet (early June) we were upgraded to a Gold one free of charge. If you like a room with a view, be sure to ask for one of the sea facing ones above the terrace or hotel front entrance - all of which are probably Gold or Platinum.

Thanks to all at the Fermain Valley Hotel - we will probably visit Jersey next but may return some day...

OK, but ask if they have a wedding on before booking.

from EdwinBear
We flew from Jersey to Guernsey to celebrate our wedding anniversary, specifically booking the fine dining restaurant to have dinner in on the Saturday night. On arrival we were told the restaurant was closed for a wedding, this was obviously disppointing as we had travelled there specifically to eat at the restaurant. The manager did do his best to rectify the situation, offering us the choice of private dining in the library or the restaurant menu in the brasserie, we chose the latter. We were also offered a couple of glasses of champagne by way of compensation (although were given prosecco instead). Dinner was excellent, we also had a very enjoyable lunch on the terrace (although the service was very slow, we were there for 2 hours and only had a sandwich and pudding).
Breakfast on Sunday morning was poor, there was no fruit juice available at the buffet (which was limited) and my full english arrived without sausage as they had run out!
The room was exquisite and was so big it was more like a suite than a room. It was spotlessly clean with a huge bathroom, fruit, water and sherry. They also did the most amazing turn down service with candles lit all round the room and petals scattered everywhere which was a very thoughtful touch.
Overall, we would definately stay here agin, but probably not if they had a wedding booked.

Fantastic

from beentheredoneit
We have just returned from the Fermain, having chosen the hotel to host our wedding reception party of 19, very fussy, well travelled relatives and friends. The food was first class, the setting is beautiful and the staff exceptional with special mention to the Corporate and Events Manager, Claire who worked tirelessly to make sure everything went like clockwork.
My only negative comment would be the lack of air conditioning in the hotel is a definite oversight as the rooms do get very hot, if the sun shines which luckily for us it did!
Overall, one of the best hotels on the island, with a very high standard of cuisine.
Also worth checking out the beach cafe at the bottom of the valley, which is is quite superb
The hotel is located 5 mins from St Peter Port, which has a number of excellent restaurants and bars

Wonderful!

from Chaasema
This is a wonderful hotel in a very beautiful setting. We just returned from a long weekend in Guernsey and have nothing but good things to say about our stay. Our room was in the new building (up the hill, but close to the main hotel) and was very spacious, clean, modern and comfortable. The facilities are good-- swimming pool, sauna, etc. . . even a private cinema that you can rent out (for free), which was a neat treat for us (having a very young child we don't get to the cinema very often). The breakfast was superb as well-- a wide range of hot and cold choices. The best part of our stay at this hotel was the staff. They were so polite and really made the extra effort to see that we were comfortable. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Magnificent hotel

from WysiwygKent
One of the best hotels we've ever stayed in. Beautiful surroundings, absolutely breathtaking, the sea, woodlands and birds all in one setting, gorgeous.
The staff are extremely helpful and professional, and the hotel is spotlessly clean and decorated to an extremely high standard.
Everything is thought of for your comfort, we had complimentary slippers, decanter of sherry, fruit and water in the fridge in our rooms, and were very impressed when we were told we could order tea and coffee on room service, 24 hrs a day, and all was complimentary .... well that stopped any arguments in the morning who was going to make the drinks!!
Can't recommend it highly enough.

Beware of the noise of the kitchen extract fan!!!

from Veme
The hotel is in a lovely location and has a great view of the bay. It has recently been refurbished and all is of a high standard. There is one big problem - the extremely loud kitchen extract fan!
The hotel has 3 classes of rooms: Silver, Gold and Platinum. I had booked a Silver double room - and initially we were upgraded to a Gold room - however I refused this when I saw it had single beds. So, after a wait and a bit of a panic from the staff, we were shown to a double Silver Room - not such a nice view - but a fantastic large comfy bed. Then after trying to have a nap - I realised a loud noice was disturbing the peace and quiet I had expected from a stay in Guernsey. It sounded so loud I thought it was a generator. I traced the noise to a cupboard in the corridor - and after a call to reception found out that this was the kitchen fan and they promised to have it 'turned down'. After 30 minutes there was no change to the noise levels. I had to go down to reception and make a big fuss - and threatened to check out of the hotel. They then moved us yet again - to another Gold room that was nice and quiet.
But BEWARE - all the rooms sold as 'Silver' will be effected by the kitchen noise - and they are charging £160 a night for these!
I did not enjoy the experience of constantly having to complain to get the sort of room that I had expected when I booked. Although we got upgraded I was constantly reminded by the staff that they had 'done me a favour' in upgrading me.... and did not make any apology about the noise.
Nice hotel but expensive.
Don't book a Silver room.
If you can afford it the other rooms are lovely.

Absolutely magnificent

from OldNortonian
This is quite the best hotel my wife and I have ever stayed in.
Everything about it is first class.
The hotel is modern and spotlessly clean. It is furnished to a very high standard. The staff are extremely professional and helpful.
Complimentary extras included a bowl of fruit and a decanter of sherry on arrival; tea or coffee brought to the room at any time of the day and night ; and soft bedroom slippers. The excellent local daily newspaper is also provided free of charge.
In addition to all this the hotel is in a superb position overlooking Fermain Bay whilst only a 30 minute walk (or 5 minute drive) away from St Perter Port .
All in all a truly memorable holiday and one which we hope to repeat.

The Hotel others should desire to emulate

from skipJersey
The hotel, formerly known as La Favorita is now under new ownership and has been totally transformed!
The whole place has been tastily revamped and is the most friendly hotel you could ever want to stay in. Situated in the Fermain Valley between St Peter Port and St Martins parishes this hotel enjoys wonderful scenery and is only a few minutes walk from Fermain bay where there is a delightful cafe / seafood restaurant also with most delightfull staff. A Meal here should not be missed if you get bored of eating in the hotels 3 restaurants. The hotel offers a shuttle bus service into St Peter Port for shopping as well as a wide assortment of inhouse classes and activities, something to suit everyone , even a small armchair cinema. This place is a true jewel of a place and I cannot more highly recommend. The staff and thier attention to guest comfort is unequalled in any hotel I have ever stayedin.
