Top Local Tips for York

Walk the Wall and Meet at the Minster do visit railway museum.and while there, do not miss the royal trains. but miss the wheel (unless you just want a fairground ride. Minster is really awesome, allow lots of time. Castle museum is fantastic, especially Victorian street, plus lots of more recent times displays/memory joggers depending on age! Walk the wall for great photo opportunities and squirrel sightings, and wear comfy shoes wherever you go, because of cobbles! If you are worried about becoming separated from your fellow traveller while in crowded York, meet at the Minster - you can find it from anywhere!

Evening Song at York Minster Unfortunately, York Minster has joined a growing number of religious instituions having to charge admission fees. You can avoid these by attending Evening Song. It is free to attend, usually takes place about 5 or 5:30pm, lasts 30-60 minutes and gives a lovely impression of what it would have been like to attend a service hundreds of years ago. If you can, you might be able to have a quick look around before heading off to dinner. If you've enjoyed your experience, or would like to contribute to the upkeep of the Minster, there is a donation box for those of us who feel it is unreasonable to charge admission to a place of worship.

York Minster OK at the risk of sounding like a complete cheapskate - be warned that entrance to the Minster is £5.50 per adult. I thought that was a bit steep personally, so spent more on lunch instead!
