Having read mixed reviews of Marmadukes I was unsure but the price was good - £80 for a double room on Laterooms - and I was only staying for one night so I booked. What a lovely place! I had one of the cheaper rooms but it was charming, beautifully furnished, very clean, loads of space and a wonderful bed with lovely linen. The lady on reception was very friendly and I was made to feel very welcome. There was a problem with my room key but this was dealt with promptly - despite the look of horror on the poor receptionists face because the machine that registers the keys had also ceased to function. Breakfast the next morning was delightful - go for the scrambled egg and smoked salmon - it was to die for! It's a shame the restaurant does not open for dinner at the moment because if the breakfast was anything to go by.... I would recommend the hotel to anyone - though the lack of a lift and steep stairs to the top floor may be a problem for some.
