After hearing that we were to spend a few days in York,a friend of my wife recommended the "Four Poster Lodge" to us.
We were certainly pleased that she did as the only word to describe our stay there
is "Excellent".
Our room was spotless and charmingly decorated.
The ample breakfasts were first rate and the owners "Shirley" and "Garry"we found to be really nice people, and it seemed that nothing was too much trouble for them. All in all, thoroughly enjoyable.

My wife and I recently stayed at the Fourposter Lodge and I must say we had a wonderful few days in their accommodation. We found the proprietors Shirley & Gary very friendly as we booked things through e-mail after viewing it first on their web site. The Lilac room had a beautiful wooden fourposter bed and was very clean and well decorated and offered many extra like TV with DVD player, tea and coffee etc. The breakfast was one of the best I have had in a long time and filled us for most of the day, however after been out for an evening meal on the second day, the next morning we could only manage kippers. I was very happy with the fact I could leave my car in a secure private car park and be able to forget about it until we left, as the town centre was only a 10 minute walk away. We can fully recommend the Fourposter lodge which we have done already to friend and family and will definitely be staying there again next time we are in York.

Excellent stay, the room was traditionally decorated which was in keeping with the style of the house. The owners, Gary and Shirley made us feel very welcome. We had the full English breakfast which was hearty and set us up for the day.
Only a 15 minute walk to the centre of town.
Would definitely come back and have already recommended this to friends and family.

Booked this Hotel through their Website
it looked Good & that's what we got.
The check in was easy & friendly.
Secure Parking for my not so secure classic car was a bonus. Our Room was as described on their website, Clean & Tidy & decor inline with the age of the property (Victorian)
A Proper English Breakfast was served (maybe a bit earlier start would be good)
The Hotel was also within a 10 min Stroll of the City Centre - A very Good Indian Restraunt Nearby & a Couple of decent pubs too. A very enjoyable romantic weekend away.

This B&B is central enough to the city centre, by only a 10-15min walk. Unfortunately, this is the only good thing I can say about the Fourposter Lodge. Upon arrival we were shown to our room which I can only describe as something time forgot. The nauseating flowered wallpaper was overly faded, the fourposter bed had mold growing on the headboard. The room was very damp, smelled quite bad, and had not been dusted in weeks. There was no ventilation for the 'ensuite' so anything done in the bathroom would come into the room, ie. steam etc. The very small telly was about 12 feet away from the bed and view was blocked by the footboard of the bed. The walls were so thin we could hear any noise in the hall, kitchen or bedroom overhead.
Lastly and most important, the room was not serviced for 2 days. We had no clean towels, sheets, tea/coffee or even toilet roll. We ended up going to the local shop and buying our own tea and toilet roll. The owner was highly rude, extremely unaccomodating and confrontational when I asked for the room to be serviced. We found this ridiculous especially for the price of the room £90 a night. NOT WORTH IT!
I WOULD NOT recommend the Fourposter Lodge to anyone and certainly will never stay there again. Luckily we both have high spirits and didnt let this ruin our holiday in York.
