Great Experience!

This is a beautiful, clean hotel. We stayed there for two nights and loved the experience. It is in a great location and is a beautiful hotel. The beds were very comfortable. We had cream tea in the lobby. It was delicious! The breakfast was excellent.

New Year Celebrations

We stayed 1 night at this Hotel to attend their New Year Ball.
The room was comfortable and clean , with a small sitting area.
Bathroom was compact, clean and everything worked.
Staff on reception were helpful and friendly.
The Ball included dinner and the food was well above average
for mass catering. The waiting staff were friendly and efficient.
Breakfast was included with a good selection including cooked.
The hotel is in the high street almost opposite the Castle.
Most places of interest, pubs and restaurants are within walking distance. The hotel has free car parking for guests.
We enjoyed our stay at this hotel and would return again.

Modern, spacious and friendly...

I stayed in this hotel for the second time on New Years Eve, having been impressed on a previous visit. On my first visit we were upgraded to a suite (guests are automatically upgraded on quiet days), which had an additional seating area, a flat screen TV and an amazing view of the castle. On my second visit, we were not upgraded as it was a busy night, but the room was still spacious and had the same tasteful decor, immaculate bathroom, large TV/DVD etc. The only disappointment this time was a lack of view, as we were told classic rooms do not face onto the High Street/castle. Parking facilities are excellent (free) and the staff are very friendly and helpful, and rushed to help us bring our bags in from the rain when we arrived. The bar is great, with frindly waiting staff and the location is excellent.

This hotel is in a great location in Windsor, right in the heart of the shops and opposite the amazing castle.
Only complaint is that it felt like it was more geared up for conferences than other guests. However I was here on a conference and therefore happy with the experience.
Rooms - I was upgraded to a Suite, which to be honest I wouldn't have known was an upgrade if I hadn't been told. All nicely kitted out and very clean.
Food - Our group dinner was fairly average, the usual dissapointments of mass catering. Breakfast was ok, but service a little slow.
Location - perfect for Windsor
Service - excellent throughout
Only complaint is the extra £2 charge for paying by card. I really don't see why this is necessary. Seems like a stupid thing for a hotel to do as the guests last experience is one of anger!

Awful experience, for a pretty expensive hotel. Room wasn't made 4 hours after hanging sign on door, wake up call failed to materialise, room itself pretty small, room-key failed to work after first day, staff disinterested in my complaints, incapable of giving me accurate train times in to London. Duty-manager with soup stained suit and an attitude problem.

Lovely Hotel - GREAT LOCATION

We stayed for the bank holiday weekend at the hotel. Although a wedding was taking place over the weekend we didn't see the guests and the hotel being full had no effect on the service we received.

I found the staff to be very helpful - I booked via email and although I had booked a double (my mistake!) they moved me to a twin room. Nothing was too much trouble.

The hotel has been recently renovated so all the rooms are nicely decorated and clean. The hotel faces Windsor Guild Hall and is about 2 minutes walk from the castle entrance - so the location is perfect for anyone planning to site see.

We ate in the restaurant one night which I'd definitely recommend - the food was exquisite!!

Some of the other reviews complain about service at breakfast – not a problem we encountered. The hot food arrived within 10 minutes and cups of tea appeared after about 5 minutes.

Overall I'd definitely recommend a stay here - right location, helpful staff and incredible food!!!!

Great Location but Breakfast was awful

Just completed three night stay at hotel. Location is across from Windsor Castle and cannot be beat. Walking distance from train station, shops, good resturants, etc. Hotel staff was very accomidating and nice. Breakfast was another story. Service was overstretched, constantly running around and ultimately very slow. My wife and I waited an average of over 30 minutes each morning just to get hot coffee. There is a cold buffet which was average at best. Hot breakfast items were available but the staff did not get our order correct for any of the three days. We simply ordered eggs and toast, too. The average wait for the hot breakfast was over 45 minutes. Rooms were nice and clean but I expect better service since room rates were pretty high and included breakfast.

Service was VERY poor, Staff had no experiences in what they were doing and were very slow and not attentive! Monday morning at 6AM the staff were emptying the bottle bin which made a terrible sound. Breakfast service was very slow.
If you want a plesent stay, stay at Frimley Hall Hotel, Macdoanld hotel. The service was excellent and is still very close to Windsor

Absolutely great hotel

We stayed in this hotel for one night only - oh how we wish it could have been for longer! The staff on reception were lovely, our room was so cosy and modern which surprised us as the hotel is old. The bathroom was big and so, so clean with lovely bubble baths etc. We had bathrobes and a flat screen TV. Fresh milk was brought to our room for the tea and coffee.
We were going to have a meal there in the evening but the cost put us off and also the 12.5% service charge, also the restaurant was empty - it was the 30th December so quiet most places.
The breakfast was superb, the room overlooked the main street in Windsor opposite the castle so plenty to look at!
Car parking was free and all this for £109.00. Such good value for money.
We ate in a restaurant called "Browns" down by the River Thames - we would highly recommend this place. The meal was one of the best we have had for ages and only £10.95 each.
We will be going back to both of these places again!

Really nice hotel

We stayed for 3 nights D,B&B and actually were impressed with all of it. We had a first floor "junior suite" overlooking the High Street, and good double glazing meant that we got a good night's sleep in a very comfortable bed. I agree with a previous reviewer that the restaurant lacked atmosphere, but we understand it's due for a makeover. Certainly the food and wine and service were all excellent.

Only two gripes: 1st floor is mixed smoking/non smoking. Our neighbours were late night smokers and somehow it meant our room absolutely stank when they lit up. Finally, reception did the old trick of adding £25 to the bill - but when queried nobody (not even the general manager) could tell what it was for. We have had this problem before with Macdonalds Hotels that are booked centrally. I think it's the local management's way of getting a bit extra - so watch out!!

Top Local Tips for Windsor

Oldl Book Store Across the bridge to Eton, there is a cute little antique book shop. If you love books, go there. My daughters pick up one or two books everytime we go. Lovely and some real great buys there.

Great restaurant There is a great Spanish tapas restaurant in the train station area. It is in the open air but even in December when I have been there they have space heaters and you are always nice and warm and the food is wonderul.

Windsor is worth a tourist visit I live near Windsor and a few years ago I thought it was getting a bit sleazy however in recent times there has been a lot of sympathetic redevelopment such as the twee little plaza built into what used to be a grotty old train station. If you're a tourist visiting the general area I think Windsor strikes a nice balance between cost and entertainment value.
