Please save your time and money. I booked a romatic Valentines weekend for my fianc'ee and myself. I drove 120 miles and they had cancelled my reservation!!!!! They dont do email confirmation. Please go elsewhere.

Staff tried hard, owner let them down

Fantastic location, pity the room booked. Four poster bed for a special birthday was not available and despite several letters of complaint sent to owner he has yet to respond. Very expensive place to stay and very poorly managed. Would not recommend to anyone.

Top prices and poor service

Upon arrival, we waited ten minutes before we saw anyone at reception. Waited a further 10 mins at the bar along with 6 guests before the barman appeared. Asked for a menu from the barman (but are still waiting)bar prices are astronomical ie £10.00 for a pint of beer and a large white wine. We found a menu ourselves, but at a average price of £18.00 for main course we decided to go into windemere where we enjoyed sensible prices. We asked for extra pillows but were told that they had none so we found them ourselves in a linen room across from our room. Everyone sitting in the beer garden looked directly into our room, so we had to keep the curtains closed. On the upside the breakfast and breakfast service was very good, but we would not recommend this hotel.

Great food. Shame about the rooms

This hotel is in a fabulous location and serves fabulous food. Can't wait for the bedrooms to be brought into the 21st century. Even the 80s or 90s would be an improvement. I'd recommend it - but would also recommend you don't pay the full asking price until the bedrooms are renovated. We had a great time there but had read the reviews in advance so were prepared...
