Dissappointed
from BiffaBaconOn the first night we stayed for dinner as we had prepaid a DBB package. The started came and was fine then we waited and waited until the main course arrived half an hour later. The duck was like rubber grey and obviously warmed up, we waited and waitedand twenty minutes later the waitress came out and giggled that the"chef" had forgot our vegetables. It took two hours to have a poorer than average meal, the cheese had been long since forgotten in the back of the fridge and was curly with age. The only redeeming factor was the sticky toffy pudding that must of been pre preped and warmed up this was the best thing about the whole hotel. We got up for breakfast at 8.50 and were served tea in a pot and a single cup of instant coffee at 9.40 our breakfast arrived poached eggs and cumbrian sausage these were frozen and of poor quality and they had been deep fat fried. When asked if everything was okay we said that we were not happy and the waitress just shrugged. On that morning we decided not to eat the evening dinner and the waitress stressed that we would be charged because it had been pre ordered. She also had to have this conversation with two other tables so we dont think it was just us. All hotels have bad days even bad weeks but we gave the hotel every opportunity to rectify our complaints. We even told the girl on reception to get the management to call us and we would happily discuss our complaints. We have heard nothing. The customer service has been very poor £300 for a mid week room was not anywhere near value for money( our deluxe room was above the front door so we were woken by guests entering and leaving also there is a lot of noise from the road and this room would deffinatley benefit from secondary glazing) Next time we visit the lakes well be staying in a B&B at least you get what you pay for.
Obviously i too am disappointed that these customers did not enjoy their stay, can i however point out some factual errors, firstly my head Chef was not on holiday, he was on 2 days compassionate leave for a funeral, the second Chef is not so young, she is 24 years old and has been trained & qualified, the vegetable situation is unacceptable and was genuinely an oversight on my staffs behalf.
The breakfast sausages are not frozen and are not deep fried,
The price paid for 2 nights dinner b&b in a spa bath bedroom was £278 for 2 people, not bad value & all other customers staying at the same time enjoyed their stay & left good comments & reviews, there are however no excuses.
To be fair this complaint was not brought to my attention which i am looking into & this review is the first i had heard about the problems, i will be contacting the customer re compensation for the food not taken as a good will gesture.

Great Meal!
from CoventriansMy wife and I stayed with friends just outside Kendal last week. One evening we booked a meal at the hotel and were really impressed. The reception staff were welcoming, the waitress very pleasant and efficient. The meal was excellent - the presentation of the food was beautiful and every course was delicious. We wish you to convey to the chef and staff our sincere thanks. We will certainly visit the hotel again on our next trip to the Lakes.

Excellent Stay
from HappyfolkWe stayed in an executive room, which was of modest size, but haev ebrything we needed. It was tastefully decorated and had leather armchairs and headboard. The bathroom was newly fitted and spotless and the Spa bath helped ease the muscles after many a long walk.
The food was delicious and far better than many resturaunts we have tried. You must try the Steak and Gusiness pie, followed by the Creme Brulee. There is a good and reasobably priced wine list.
The staff are excellent and I will definatley be booking for next year.

What a Find
from wenwoosWe found a warm friendly greeting from Colin the owner on arrival & the reception was light & airy.
The rooms were cosy, more like bedrooms than Hotel rooms & were cleaned every day with fresh towels if needed.
The food was outstanding for a small Hotel, prepared by Simon the chef. Everything was freshly made & the desserts were to die for.
The staff were very attentive & polite at all times & nothing was too much trouble.
The Hotel was very central for all shops & bars & within walking distance of the Lake.
We will book this Hotel anytime we return to the Lakes & reccomend it to friends & family

outstanding
from remmington34Loved the food
from Benid0rm_BabeWe also managed to go to the leisure centre which had a pool, jacuzzi, steam room and sauna well worth the visit as it is only 5 minutes away from the hotel.
The hotel is perfectly situated so you can reach the shops, lake and pubs and restaurants. I really enjoyed our stay and the service was brilliant I am hoping to go there again next year.Even if it is just to the restaurant.
Highly recommended.

from citybabyThese guests did stay on these dates, there is absolutely no doubt that they did burn 2 holes in a brand new co ordinated bed spread with an iron as my wife checked all rooms prior to their arrival following our £150,000 refurbishment, she had gone around all rooms with our manageress checking all new headboards, curtains & matching fitted bed spreads, upon the guests departure my staff found the damaged new bed spread.
The guests ignored the signs in the dedicated guest ironing room which clearly asks all guests not to take the iron to the rooms, this signage also clearly states that any damage to rooms will be charged to the guest, these booking terms are also clear on the web site they booked through ( ---- ) and in reception of the hotel, obviously the guest is unhappy in having being charged and argued, however when presented with the facts the credit
card company backed our claim & allowed the money to be charged, we have acted totally professionally & i have never had to charge any guest previously for damage, perhaps the readers of this reply would understand how they would feel having just spent so much money making things so nice & then finding that someone who just did not care destroy their property.
All we wish to do is make things & keep things as nice as possible for our appreciative guests, needless to say guests the likes of these are not welcome at our beautiful hotel!

Glenburn hotel & cottages in Windermere
Warm, friendly hotel
from John HallamThe individual rooms are all furnished to a very high standard and are always kept immaculately clean. Recent refurbishments have only added to the already very high standards.
Food in the restaurant is always varied and interesting, and very well presented. The service is always faultless.
This is a family-run hotel and the owners always ensure that the interests of their guests come first and NOTHING is too much trouble for them.
I have been visiting the Lake District on my own, and with my wife, and I would not stay anywhere else. I also recommend this hotel to all my friends and relatives and they all agree with me that this is an excellent hotel.
Top Local Tips for Windermere
LAKE CRUISES Highly recommend the '48 Hour Cruise' ticket which allows the individual to take 3 separate trips on Lake Windermere at a very reasonable price. The trip up to Ambleside is well worth it, definitely get off & wander around this lovely village. The trip down to Lakeside is okay but if you decide to get off the Lakeside Aquarium is well over priced & not value for money. During our visit many of the exhibits were undergoing reconstruction & this was not advertised nor was there a reduction in price. Very poor. The Steam Railway attraction was closed for the season. This should also be advertised to the public. The trip 'Around the Islands' was very informative, told us more about the lake in that 45mins than the other two longer journeys put together. Suggest that pre-recorded information be 'piped' over the speaker system outlining a more in-depth history of the area.
The many lakes for sightseeing Whilst enjoying a lovely holiday every traveller should go around the different lakes as they are all very nice and some can be enjoyed by going on a boating trip. The size of the boat varies but it is an excellent way to see the lake in all its splendour. The many passes are there to be seen and are best going on one of the many small buses which take you to the best locations. There are some lovely houses to be seen of historic heritage and most can be viewed inside and out and there is always a tea room which gives home cooking.
Going to Bowness You can easily walk downhill to Bowness village. After an evening out you may well appreciate a taxi back to the hotel up the hill!
