Simply the Best Hotel you can stay in
from A TripAdvisor Member
We have stayed at Linthwaite House a number of times now and will be going back again in May with friends. We always enjoyed it thoroughly each time. The friendly staff always make us feel welcome, the house is very well kept and there are magnificent views from the conservatory and outside taking afternoon tea. The best bit about staying here is always the food that is so delicious and different. We have stayed in many hotels both in America, Europe and Australasia and this has got to be one of the best. The standards of service are never reduced in all the times we have stayed. If you are disappointed with this hotel there has to be something wrong with you.
Brilliant weekend away

The Linthwaite Hotel is one of the best I have ever stayed in. I am usually very disappointed by hotels - either the room, service or food. All three could not be faulted. The hotel is beautful yet informal and welcoming, the staff are friendly, helpful and polite and the food was absolutely delicious - complements to the chef!! The location and setting mean the hotel has stunning views over the lake, extremely peaceful and romantic. We will definitly be back!!
What a wonderful Christmas present!
from A TripAdvisor Member
My wife and I were treated to an overnight stay (by way of a Christmas present) at Linthwaite by our son Jules who is a trainee chef at the hotel. We were made comfortable and made welcome as soon as we walked through the doorway. A more apt name would be dificult to find (The Unstuffy Hotels Company) for this luxurious and friendly gourmets paradise and cosy retreat. If you were to see Becks and his Missus enjoying canapes in the conservatory you wouldn't be surprised.
Thanks to all who made our short stay very enjoyable.
PS with a special thanks to Daz for the wine.

Linthwaite Luxury

We have just returned from our second visit to the wonderful small hotel with what must be one of the most stunning outlooks in the Lake District. We stayed in room 16 which is a deluxe room overlooking the garden. It has a king size bed which has to be the most comforable I have ever slept in. The staff were wonderful, very friendly and approachable. They were extemely helpful but not too attentive and intrusive....just the right touch.
The food was first class and beautifully presented. We had the opportunity to lok at some of the other rooms from the standard up to and including the suite. They are all beautifully presented and furnished with lovely touches like Molton Brown toiletries etc. The only difference is in the size of the room and the view. Room 4 overlooks Lake Windemere and has the most stunning view.
I can think of nothing to say by way of a negative comment, other than perhaps the wine and bar prices are quite expensive. Having said that, the wines we have tried have all been superb.
I would thoroughly recommend this anyone wishing a break away from it all with the opportunity for some excellent walking if you wish. We climbed Loughrigg Fell and the views were well worth the climb!!

It rains in the Lakes...but who cares!
from PeteConnor
So it rained for virtually the whole of our three days in the Lake Distict... but we weren't worried. It was our first stay at Linthwaite House Hotel, just after Christmas, and I hope upon hopes that it won't be our last. From the friendly and warm reception (log fire crackling away) to the comfortable bedroom and first class food and service in the restaurant, we could not have hoped to have stayed in a hotel you could just 'sink into', and not want to move from. Sure, we got out and about - the Lakes are beautiful at any time of the year so you must spend a bit of time having a look at what is on offer - but we didn't want to go too far - we were enjoying ourselves far too much at Linthwaite House! Don't take my word for it - I've stayed in many hotels in this country and all over the world - for friendly service and a relaxed atmosphere, combined with quality food, try Linthwaite House Hotel. (And no, I'm not the owner!)
Wonderful place

We've stayed at Linthwaite a number of times and enjoyed it thoroughly each time. The staff always make us feel welcome, the house is gorgeous (particularly the conservatory), and the food is divine.

Our Favourite Hotel

We have just spent our third Christmas at Linthwaite House and yet again we were not disappointed. Excellent service, very friendly staff, superb food and just the right atmosphere for a really relaxing break.
Please don't think however that this hotel can only create the magic in the festive season. We spent a few days there in the summer and thoroughly enjoyed ourselves - drinks on the terrace before enjoying excellent food and wine in the airy mirror room, courteous, friendly staff who were only too pleased to help and the most fantastic views from our bedroom window.
We can't wait to go back again.

A Welcome Return

My mum and I had decided we needed a well earned treat and so I booked us into Linthwaite, having stayed there for the first time in October 2003. If anything, we enjoyed our stay this time more than the previous one, as we knew what to expect and so could look forward to it (the anticipation is all part of the treat sometimes...)
We received a warm and enthusiastic greeting from Mary on Reception (the reception being all the warmer as there was a cosy log fire lit). She showed us to our room which was tastefully decorated in creams and beiges with a particularly gorgeous chaise longue. The flat screen TV, CD player, and fluffy robes were all nice, welcome touches.
We made ourselves comfortable on a sofa in the conservatory and soaked up the views of an autumnal Lake Windermere in between reading the glossy magazines provided. Later that evening we enjoyed our meal in the mirror covered dining room. The courses are far from over facing in size but they tasted delicious and we were able to get through all of the 4 courses (including soup served in a dinky cup and saucer).
The staff were friendly and professional throughout. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to another one soon.

The weekend that did hit the spot
from A TripAdvisor Member
We've just returned from an excellent weekend break and had an outstanding time. Room (double deluxe), service, and location excellent. We were sad it passed so quickly. The food, both breakfast and dinner, was excellent (and we're both regular eaters in some pretty good places) with very appealing food and attentive (but not overpowering) service. Frankly very good value at £42 for 4 courses, plus trimmings.
The room and bathroom were well appointed and tastefully decorated/furnished and spotlessly clean and the whole atmosphere unpretentious to provide an informal and relaxing stay. Just looking forward to the next time we can escape up there. Other highlights included the conservatory, with views across Windermere, and the reception with log fire - almost empting not to venture out in the cold!

Bowness - no-ness Don't bother too much with Bowness. It's full of outdoor clothes shops and tat. only place wortha visit is the Art Gallery, on the right just up the hill towards Windermere. Make an effort and cross the ferry towards hawkshead, on foot and walk on the other side of Windermere. It's so peaceful, especially earlt in the morning
Lake Windermere Don't go in summer - too many people ...
Great steaks Try Jericho's for great fillet steaks. Best steak in the UK. Make sure you book well in advance.
