Refreshingly delightful!!
As someone who grew up in Whitby, I always look forward to returning to the beautiful seaside town. I have stop in many hotels in Whitby and this is far the best. It's worth paying the extra for the sea view (is'nt that the point of visiting the sea!!) It's value for money and the meals were excellent with the waitress's very helpful! We stayed as a party of 6 in 3 double rooms with all the rooms clean and plenty of space for all of us to sit round and chat. The entertainment wasn't up my street but my father enjoyed it. Situated in a great position as all areas are in walking distance!! Worth a visit or 2!

Great Value for Money
My wife & I have had 2 weekend breaks at the Royal.
Enjoyed ourselves on both occassions. Both times had a sea view, worth the extra cost. Food was well cooked & portions were adequate (what do you expect for the price? Cordon bleu! Entertainment was good, bar prices reasonable.
Hotel is ideally situated, but walk back from town is uphill all the way.

Poor quality
Stayed at royal on a mon-fri midweek stay. When we arrived there had been a mix up with the booking and we were put at the back with a view off a brick wall, the reception staff were of hand and no help although it was not our fault. There were handles missing on draws and wardrobe, light bulbs out,but the rooms were clean. The meals were terrible overcooked, or in the case of the rice under cooked!I could not eat them, but the waitress was an angel and was embarrassed with what she had to service. I would not go there agian.
