Historical Traveller Reviews of Ardencote Manor Hotel Country Club Spa

Excellent

from tasisfamily
Our stay at this hotel was FANTASTIC!! It was very child friendly. My kids (age 4 & 5) had a wonderful time. They would play on the playstructure outside or run around on the lovely grounds while we were able to watch them relaxing on the patio.
The hotel was very clean and the food was pretty good. (Good childs menu )
The location was perfect to visit many different areas. We went to Warwick Castle, Stratford and Cadbury World on different days and then would come back to the hotel and relax.
The pool area was great for the kids as well. I cant say enough postive things about our stay and the great service provided by Ardencote Manor. Thank you.

absolutely fantastic..........

from staffpoint
what a fantastic hotel! i truly wasn't expecting this. from the econd i arrived we were treated like the royal family. this was little bit more than we were looking to pay, but i can honestly say the few extra pounds were definitely worth it. The food is excellent and the staff were very, very friendly making us feel most welcome. the rooms were extremely comfortable, i was very tempted to call in sick for work and stay another night.

i would say in the area, this has to be the best hotel in this price range. I have stayed at other 4 star, rosette hotels, but i promise none match the warm welcome, comfortable rooms and quality in the restaurant that the Ardencote provide.

Terrible

from emmalf
I visited the Ardencote the same time last year with some old university friends and it was excellent. However, it was almost like we were staying at a different hotel this year.

My primary complaints were:

1. Although check in was not until 2, we arrived at 12. We knew this although thought we'd try checking in as sometimes the rooms are ready earlier. So we were prepared to not be able to acess our rooms until 2, but thought we'd get some lunch in the (very pleasant) lesiure bar. Unfortunately we were, at first, told to go away and come back at 2 (ie put your bags back in your car, get off our land and go back when you're told). No helpful suggestion that we might want to leave our bags with the concierge and get some lunch while the room was still being prepared.

2. The Lodge retsaurant has deteriorated beyond belief since we last were there. Although it has been refurbished, it now lacks atmosphere (they could have at least turned down the lights a little). The food was truly awful, especially at the price. My fish starter was dry and chewy, my main of lamb was overcooked. All 5 other diners had equally disappointing meals. Also, the vegetables were a joke. £1.95 for 6/7 frozen roast potatoes and the same for sweetcorn. Also, I could not believe they served potato cubes at 2 michelin starred restaurant!

3. Also, the service was amatuerish. The waiter was no more than 18, didn't understand the menu etc and the service was sloppy (seemed that we had to ask for everything twice), which shouldn't be the case at an expensive restaurant.

4. Finally, the room service breakfast was barely edible.

So, a huge disappojntment, especially after the year before. Will be looking for an alternative venue for next year's event.

Comfortable and friendly

from RHaigh
We booked a 2 night DBB break for 2 adults, our son 's stay was free. A ticket for child entry to Warwick Castle was included in the special rate price. All staff were very friendly and helpful. The room, in the annex, was very comfortable, possibly recently decorated. There were many thoughtful touches, eg as well as the tea tray being replenished every day they also called at the room late afternoon to ask if further supples were required. We all enjoyed swiming in the adequately sized pool and walking in the grounds. There was also a children's play area and if we had had time there were tennis courts. The dinners, served in the lake side lodge, were delicious. Our son, who was made most welcome and comfortable chose and ate all 3 courses - at no extra cost than if it had just been my husband and me, though there was also a childrens menu. Actually there were more than 3 courses as on the table was the most delicous breads and olives and before starters a complementary soup was served.
Breakfasts were also excellent.
On arriving home we realised that our son had left a much loved soft toy and a CD in his bed. On phoning the hotel they arranged for these to be posted back to us at no cost to us.
I can't recommend this hotel highly enough.

Loved it very romantic

We stayed here for our first wedding anniversary and it was fantastic!! The staff were really helpful and couldnt of helped us more
We had a lovley room and the spa treatments were everything we needed really got rid of those stressful nots.
The food served in the lodge was 5 star! I am a fussy eater and they went out of there way to cook me something I would eat.
The whirlepool was my favourite as we sat in this while it was raining was soooo romantic.
The only down side was there was two weddings on and we felt a bit limited on where we could walk around but that was it.
My husband had arranged flowers and champagne and these were on ice when we first arrived.
I cant wait to go back !!!

Not up to expectations.

Facilities as advertised but attitude of managment when there is cause to complain, not good at all. No appologies, very slow to respond to complaint verbally or when put in writing and I got the general impression that they hoped that if they lingered long enough, then it would not be pursued..maybe too many tourist do not follow through? Anyway, it was only after a fortnight of pursueing and with threat of legal action, that what would normally be and instant managerial decision was eventually made. Still with no appology for the inconveince caused so perhaps could be summed up as 'Blame the Victim' attitude. The hospitallity of a hotel is vital to it's survival, we have been made more welcome in many a far lower star rating than Ardencote, and higher star rated too have been wonderful. Personally, I dont like staying where my custome is not valued, would not reccommend.

Mixed review

The grounds are stunning. The receptionist who checked us in would not have been out of place in the Antarctic-She was so frosty.
The room was fine (family room in the annexe).
The pool was lovely though very deep & not really geared for small children-There were floats & armbands available.
We wanted to swim Sunday am but tthere was no child swimming till after 9am,breakfast was only till 9.30am & checkout 10.30am so all a bit of a mad rush .
The staff were very tolerant of our 3 excited children even in the dining room.
The childrens menu is exellent & portions huge but the adult menu limited & service slow .The staff were on the whole polite but distant.
We enjoyed it but will not stay there again probably.

Average rooms, great grounds

from A TripAdvisor Member
Our family of four stayed in a family room over half term. I felt the room was not worth the price paid, as the room decor was tired and carpets and furniture were dirtier than I like to see. Reception staff were not very friendly in addressing our questions. We were even charged for our newspaper...unfortunately not the paper we requested. However, the pool, spa, exercise facility and hotel grounds were beautiful and well-maintained. Our children loved swimming and playing outside on the play equipment. If you will take advantage of the facilities/grounds, it is worth staying here; if not, find a nicer room elsewhere.

Quite pleasant

from JCW
Nice setting, next to a lake. Pleasant enough, but my bedroom (although quite large) was disappointing - pokey, with angular ceilings, nothing special at all.

Approach with care

from A TripAdvisor Member
Myself and my partner stayed at Ardencote for two nights in late September. Overall the facilities are good; spa & restaurant are excellent and staff provide a reasonable quality of service. However, please specify that you do not wish to stay in Room 5 of the main building as the standard of accomodation in this room is far below that of other rooms in the hotel. Also, the morning newspapers that are offered at check in are not complementary as is normal practice in hotels in this price range within the UK. One further point; if you find it necessary to send a letter of complaint after your stay, please do not expect a professional reply as I did - you will be disappointed.
Management Response from A TripAdvisor Member
Many thanks for allowing us the opportunity to respond to this review, since September 2002 (nearly two years ago) room 5 has undergone a full refurbishment and the hotel has attained a four star (74%) AA rating.

Ardencote Manor Hotel I go to this hotel in Warwick regularly, to meet up twice a year with my friends. This is an ideal place to meet as it is mid way for us - two of us come from London, one from Sheffield and one from Manchester.
