Poor poor not what i expected in my home town

I was due to attend my nephews wedding on 4.4.09 and the reception was at a venue within walking distance of the Royal Hotel. Having grown up in Walsall i used to visit the bar at this hotel on a regular basis. I knew members of staff who worked there and so decided to book in (against the advice of my wife). On entering the room it appeared sparse but functional. After unpacking we noticed a stain (could have been food) in the oversheet on the bed. When this was removed we noticed that while the white sheets appeared clean there was another sheet on top which may have been washed but was still stained. The shift manager and the person in charge of housekeeping was called to the room and after some discussion the two top sheets were changed . We went to the wedding and then the reception. As the evening wore on it became clear that neither of us were comfortable going back to or staying in the room. We decided that i would return to the hotle and speak to the manager on duty with a view to getting a refund. The situation was explained and a refund recieved. However this meant that i was unable to have a drink as i was the only driver and we drove back home at midnight having packed all our belongings etc.

This was a very negative experience and i have to say that having stayed in hotels all over the UK and the world (jamaica, Canada, Europe) this was by far the poorest hotel i have ever been in. It has 2 AA stars and i would question that - NOT WHAT I EXPECTED IN MY HOME TOWN. I WOULD NOT RECCOMEND TO ANYONE
