Never ever go here unless you want to leave straight away. We got given a room that had something dodgy hanging from the bed post (?) and no curtains on one window so we complained. We got another room that was not cleaned, no clean linen, bins not emptied. Had to leave straight away, the worst place I have ever been. Do not go.

We had planned a day at Drayton Manor. We live in Norfolk so decided to drive the night before last minute instead of having to drive there and back on the same day. We only decided this late evening, so we began searching the internet for accomodation close by. The travel lodges in the area and other hotels had no vacancies, but I then came across the Bescot Hotel. It was cheap (£40 per night for a double room). We knew we wouldn't arrive until about 1am however the staff were very friendly on the phone and advised it would not be a problem. When we arrived the man at the desk was polite. He took us to a separate building up several flights of stairs to our room. The corridors were very poorly lit and seemed quite dingy. I felt dubious from there on. On his first attempt of trying to unlock the door to our room (ROOM 25A) it seemed he had the wrong key, so he had to go and get a different key (at about 1:30am it was not ideal). He came back with 2 sets of keys, 1st one still was not the correct set, the 2nd worked after a while. He then let us in to our room and then left. The room stank of stale smoke and had an ashtray near the tv. There were coffee stains all over the walls, the windows would not shut properly nor would they open properly. The chest of drawers were falling apart, paint was peeling off the walls, there was no shower curtain in the bathroom which resulted in the floor flooding when having a shower, there was a light fitting in the room which was meant to have 3 light bulbs but onbly had 1, we had booked a double room but had been given only 1 towel, the bed was very uncomfortable and they had only provided 1 very thin pillow each. The pillow cases smelt like they hadn't been washed and there was no duvet cover on the duvet. There were sweet wrappers on the floor. The key for the door was very difficult to lock from the inside as the door handle had the wrong sized key hole, which meant that you had to be careful not to lose the key inside the key hole from the inside. We were advised to hold the key at an angle and try to lock the door (Not very safe in the event of a fire!) The bathroom door had a hole in it as if someone had punched it. I woke up the following day feeling like I'd had the worst night of my life and when I woke up I had a very painful neck and back which caused excrutiating pain for our day out at Drayton Manor Themepark. I had to keep constantly taking pain-killers, and was unable to even slightly move my head or neck. We never usually complain about anything and this is the first time I have ever written a review, however this really was appalling. We also did not dare to go down for breakfast as we were worried about getting food poisoning, considering the standard of the room. At the time of the morning we arrived, we had little choice but to stay at the Bescot Hotel, however we would never ever stay there again (even if we were paid to). We are in the process of writing a letter of complaint to them. Although the price was low, we feel there should be a minimum standard and this hotel certainly did not have this. It was absolutely dreadful. If only we had read the above reviews before booking this hotel. Hope this review helps others.

Stopped at the Bescot for two nights to attend nephews wedding which was at the same venue. I stop in approx 50 hotels a year and this is the worst ever!!
First room offered was unmade and dirty Second room was habitable but of poor quality. Decor throughout hotel was poor. Breakfast was acceptable unfortunately not getting down before 9.30 on Sunday we did not get any despite it being clearly stated that it was served until 10.00.
Only stop if your desperate!!

I made a last minute booking for 2 nights.. Check in was efficient and my room was upstairs. The corridor to the room was poorly lit , but that was explained by a wall light fitting which was incomplete with internal fittings on displey. The room was lit by a single lamp (no shade) which was covered in dust and cobwebs and was insufficient to be able to read a book.
The bed had a thin mattress on a solid base which could be felt everytime you moved. I think there should have been a smoke alarm in the room. At least thats what I presumed the empty fitting on the ceiling was.
I only stayed on night and moved to another hotel for the second night.

My husband and I stayed there for one night whilst visiting my parents in the Midlands. It was the first place I looked at on the internet because relatives of mine had stayed there several years before with no complaints. On arriving there was broken glass on the car park preventing us from parking the vehicle properly and when we mentioned it we were told that she didnt hear anyone breaking glass there and she had been sat there all day !
The first room we were offered smelled of smoke and there was an ash tray on the bedside table .
There were two tvs a kettle and a hairdyer on the floor with leads trailing everywhere. There was blood on the sheets, the toilet seat was wobbling all over the place and no towels.
My husband went back to reception and she gave him two keys to view the rooms. The first one was the same as the last and the second was the supposed bridal suite. A 4 poster bed with dirty lace curtains, bedding all marked and old , the duvet was in shreds inside the cover and the bath mats were dirty.
There was only one light bulb working in the chandeliar, no handles on the window, the curtains were hanging off the rail and in the bathroom there was a tree growing through the window.
You are probably thinking why the hell did we stay there ? If it hadnt been that we were late for meeting up with family and everything else local was booked up then we would have left but instead we inded up borrowing bed linen from my parents and didnt sleep a wink all night. Needless to say we did not go to breakfast for fear of going down with something nasty !
We will not be staying there again and would reccommend this place be checked out by the proper authorities.

Whilst on a business trip in Walsall, my company sent me to stay at the Bescot Hotel for 5 days. The location of the hotel was perfect and the staff were courteous and polite throughout my stay. I was placed in a double room which catered to all of my needs. The Bescot Hotel provided both breakfast and evening meals which were always to a high standard and there were a variety of choices. It was a friendly environment and had a very homely atmosphere. The bar (which I believe was only open to residents) was reasonably priced and seemed to be very popular amongst the people staying there. The staff at the hotel informed me that there had been major changes made to the hotel after it had come under new ownership, since my stay at the hotel, my company has given our accommodation contract to the Bescot Hotel and none of my associates have ever had any complaints. Many thanks to all the staff at the hotel.

Attended a 40th birthday party at you hotel last weekend and was very disappointed with a number of things!

Draught beer selection and quality of the beer was very very poor and yet you where charging a more than average price for this poor quality!

This also included the soft drinks kept on the shelves and not in the fridge!

The toilets for both Male and Female where disgusting, from the dirt collecting on the window ledges, andthe floors being wet (not from water)to the lack of cleanliness of the toilets and little soap! and where there was soap this had been watered down making it coloured tap water! (very poor hygiene)

Your only saving grace for the night was us not wanting to upset the party organiser on her birthday with this news, and the fact that you had a very helpful and friendly lady serving behind the bar!!!

Needless to say that unless there are considerable improvements, we will not be attending another function at this hotel!

I stayed at the Bescot hotel with my wife while she visited a school she had just got a job in.
When we arrived in the hotel car park, we were slightly wary of the broken furniture and abandoned shopping trolleys lying around, but told ourselves that this was just the car park and it would be ok. When we went to the dark and musty-smelling reception to check in, the girl that greeted us started by telling us that she didn\'t normally work here, but \'not to worry\'. To check in, I had to write my credit card details on a scrap of paper (at this point I was making a mental note to keep a very close eye on my credit card statements for the next few months). She told us she thought our room was upstairs on the right...
As we made our way to the bottom of the stairs, we could smell rotting food (the source of which turned out to be 5 black rubbish bags full of waste). At the top of the stairs was a broken light fixing with burn-marks on the wall above it!

Our room (which looked out over the rubbish-ridden front garden) was dank with a musty smell mixed in with stale cigarette smoke. The dampness in the air was so bad that I had trouble breathing.
There were stains on the walls which appeared to be some kind of bodily fluid.
The bed linen (which was badly worn, but mostly clean) had a pubic hair on it).
The curtains were tattered with 6 inch long strings hanging off the bottom of them.
The tea and coffee making facilities which were promised on booking included the usual sachets, two dirty, unwashed cups, and NO kettle.
The carpet was so old and worn that I didn't feel comfortable walking on it without shoes on.
The shower cubicle had a mildew-ridden curtain which was 1 foot short, so all the water running down it ran straight onto the bathroom floor, meaning that it flooded every time it was used.
We wanted to leave and find somewhere else within 15 minutes of getting into the room, but couldn't afford to pay twice and my card had already been charged for the night.
The following morning when we went down for the full English breakfast (which, incidentally, is only served UNTIL 7.30am) we were told that only a \'continental\' breakfast would be available. This consisted of three Tupperware tubs of rice krispies, cornflakes or sugar puffs with warm milk, and a choice of either tea or coffee from two thermos jugs.
When we went to check out at 8am, the boy on reception was asleep at the desk.

From start to end, this was by far the worst hotel I have EVER stayed in. I have stayed in many youth hostels throughout Europe, and have never experienced such a poor standard of accommodation and service. (And with a far superior location and price).

DO NOT SUBJECT YOURSELF TO THIS HOTEL - SPEND THE EXTRA £20 IT WOULD TAKE TO STAY SOMEWHERE DECENT. I wish I had...
