We have just come back home after a very nice stay at the torbay hotel ,this is a very well run hotel, the staff are always ready to do anything to help, the food was first class and our table waiter was always very helpfull with all our needs at meal times, the room ( NO 309 ) had a four poster bed and was perfect in every way. My wife was taken ill during our stay and the staff arrainged the doctor for her and even arrainged a taxi for her to go to the doctors. It is very hard to find anything wrong with this hotel and the staff as they worked none stop to make our stay perfect. The only downside with the hotel is the view from the bedroom windows, there wasent any The view was blocked by a row of very large trees in full leaf. The room was sold to us with views of the harbour, we payed extra for the room with harbour views not a row of trees, and also the carpark, it was free but it was a long way from the hotel, we would always recomend this hotel as it would be hard to find a better hotel, run by staff who care.Thankyou for a great stay.

we have just returned from a 5 day break with shearings staying at the torbay hotel, what fantastic value for money, the hotel itself has had a lot of money spent on new carpets and decorating in the receptions and lounge areas and staircases, the bedroom being next some done already, our room was roomy and comfortable with superb views over the harbour, very pretty all lit up at night. The paintwork was a bit shabby in places but not major. the service in the dining room was superb and quick, being served by very attentive staff, nothing was too much trouble. the choice and presentation of the food was fantastic no complaints whatsoever. the entertainment in the evening was of a high standard and the hotel hosts steve and tamar we very good. all in all a very good holiday, the second with shearings and we hope to book another one soon, very good value for money

My wife and I stayed at this hotel for 5 nights in the fist week of March 2010. We arrived and were greeted in the coach by a memeber of the Hotel staff who was very helpful. We arrived at our room to find the cases were already there and unpacked to a very comftable room with sea and harbour views. The staff as a whole were excellent and the meals great with choice for all every day. The night entertainment varied from OK to excellent . We found that a lot of the hotel areas had just been decorated. The one thing I could say was dissapointing were the lifts .. they were difficult to obtain at busy times and very slow but saying that we were on holiday and in no rush. All in all we enjoyed the stay and would like to say thanks to all the great staff.

My wife and I stayed at the Torbay Hotel as part of a National Holiday 5 day break, we were supposed to have stayed at the Tor Park Hotel, but were contacted a few days before to inform us of a change of hotels. It appears that the Torby Hotel is one the Shearings chain of hotels. I will start with just a couple of negative points which are
Lift:- a very slow and tired lift but it still did the job even though there was quite a lot of
queueing.
Bathroom:- a shelf or two on the walls would have been very useful to house toiletries.
On the positive side, where do I start.
Reception:- we were met by a lovely young lady who explained everything to us and directed us to our rooms.
Bedrooms:- ample room and comfortable, yes we were at the back of the hotel and looked towards the cliff banking but that was no problem. One morning on returning to our room after breakfast, we had forgotted to put out the "do not disturb" sign and so our room maid was in the middle of cleaning our room, because we needed to use the bathroom and get ready to join our coach for one of the included trips, our maid (Andrea) kindly said she would leave us to our privacy and would return later to finish off. (Which she did)
We thought that was very curteous.
Restaurant and food:- the restaurant was very comfortable and the food just delicious, every meal was perfect. We were served by a very hard working young lady who was also very obliging, her name was also Andrea.
Entertainment:- The resident duo (Steve & Tamar) were brilliant and played a wonderful selection of music to dance to. The cabaret stars on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday were also absolutely brilliant.
Bar staff:- they were all very fiendly including the younger staff.
I fully reccomend this hotel to anyone, we had a brilliant stay there.
Also excellent value for money.

my husband and i booked a premiar room and we will
never book a standard room again it was 1st class
we are seasoned travellers and cannot fault the room the housekeeping of it.the food was excellent
and varied the swimming although quite small was clean 25mtres all round still worth the effort for exercise the carpets on the stairs had been replaced and were quite nice.we are now looking for another holiday with shearings but this one was the best.after a stay at waverley castle in a standard room we nearly finished with shearings i would like to think they have rooms and food as good as this one

Normally my wife and I stay in Torquay at self catering. We were badly let down at the 11th hour, and so quickly booked a 4 day break at the Torbay. Best thing that ever happened!! Okay so decorating was under way and the place is old, but with the relaxed and co-operative atmosphere, it was all worth while.Reception staff were always helpful. Being able to access the lounge and our room at any time was so beneficial. I also have to mention two other members of staff. In the restaurant Eva was pleasant, helpful and polite and like all those working with her, worked their socks off at meal times. On her day off another waitress (unfortunately I did not catch her name) was also helpful and polite. The other member was Julie working the bars. She was jovial, pleasant, warm and friendly. The food was excellent, with a varied choice. All in all it has determined our stay in Torquay for the future. No more self catering for us!! It's Torbay Hotel from now on!!!!

Pleasantly suprised

After reading some reviews we were pleasantly suprised. We were allocated a room that was not suitable as my wife has a disability scooter but a quick word with the reception staff & we were given a room that was right by the lift. The hotel is a bit dated but a lot of rooms have been recently decorated. The staff are very helpfull. The food was varied & very good. The position of the hotel is very central for the shops, marina & is only a short walk to the Princess Theatre. We would recommend this hotel but it may not be suitable to wheelchair user's unless you can get the room opposite the lift. As there are 4 floor's that means there are only 4 room that are wheel chair friendly.
