Extremely unproffesional and rude staff from waitress to manager.

We decided to book the Hotel Cimon after reading such fantastic reviews on the internet. My husband, son and myself along with my sister and brother in-law and their son had two superior family rooms booked. Which we paid extra for. Both of our rooms were so small. Especially my sister in-laws where they had to literally climb over the beds to get out of the door. Her window was also broken, it had no handle to pull it closed. The shower door did not close properly. The views were terrible. Out room faced out onto the road. Where the constant noise from the traffic all night long was such a nuisance. Especially at the weekend. The owners had a big greyhound dog which was allowed to roam around the bar area. On the first night we arrived there seemed to be some dispute with a member of staff and the Manager in the bar. This lady being a waitress(as we found out the next morning) was very drunk and was using a lot of foul language. We had to leave the bar area immediately, along with an elderly couple to get away with from the swearing. We also had young children with us. Anyway, we decided to leave a day early. But on returning home my sister in-law received an extremely angry call from the Manager demanding that she pay for window damage. He was extremely threatening and demanding that she pay for the window. He had said to her that she had signed a form on arrival for any breakages. But as she was not responsible for the window she plainly stood her ground and refused. Although he had insisted that he was going to send her bill regardless. She had to literally put the telephone down on him. He kept saying to her that he was running a 4 star establishment. He must be joking. Well I really don't know who he is kidding. But anyway. It was an experience which we will never forget and certainly would not recommend the Hotel Cimon to anyone.

We booked this hotel after reading great reviews. But unfortunately, we can't say the same. We booked a superior room, as we were told that these rooms were much more spacious for a family of 3. Well, our room could not have been any smaller. We had to climb over our beds to get to the door. We had a terrible view. No bath, just a shower, with no proper door. On the first night after a long journery we decided to have a drink in the bar. But unfortunately, this was not to be the case. There was an extremely angry lady in the bar, swearing. So we had to get up and go out as we have young children and did not want them to hear such foul language. But to our surprise the next morning at breakfast, t angry lady was actually a waitress. Well we were absolutely shocked.
One of the worst hotels we have ever stayed in.

We stayed at the Cimon Hotel for 3 nights just for a break from running a busy pub. We found John and Dennis very welcoming, the room was lovely and clean, breakfast great we really couldn't fault anything about it, we will be definetly going back and would recommend it to others.

Our recent stay at the Cimon really surpassed our expectations. We'd been recommended by friends who said the place was excellent and it seemed ideal for a long weekend away. We cannot really fault anything. Our room was spotless and the place was immaculate. We loved the breakfasts and the pool area was great. Our only disappointment was the weather which meant we didn't feel like taking a dip in the heated pool. Plenty of things to do without a car and it helps that there's a lot to see within walking distance. Great value too.

A peaceful short break

Had a short break in Torquay. Booked a flight from Glasgow and picked up a hire car at the other end. So much easier than driving all that way. We booked at the Cimon for a short post-Easter break - saw the hotel on an internet search. We had a fantastic stay. The weather was brilliant, the hotel was spotless with great friendly service. The breakfasts were great and the room was comfortable, clean with all you really needed. Most of the reviews we've read on here are spot on. The town was quieter than we expected but that quite suited us. All in all a very pleasant experience.

Easter break

A family group of 10, bridging three generations, we recently spent a very happy Easter break at the Cimon. Spotlessly clean, this is a very welcoming and comfortable hotel. The hosts and staff are charming and friendly, ready to offer help and advice, but never intruding. The breakfasts were just as good as described here, though I have to add mention of the delicious home-baked breads which we thoroughly enjoyed. We were blessed with the weather, which meant that sitting out on the deck between the breakfast room and pool was sunny and relaxing. We would recommend this hotel very highly and certainly we will return.

My wife and I were looking to combine a business trip with a romantic few days away (after all Valentine's Day was in the middle!). Largely on the basis of reviews on this website, we decided to try the Cimon. We were not disappointed.
I visit the Torbay area in a fairly regular basis on business, and have got to know the area pretty well. The area is over-endowed with a large number of old-fashioned seaside hotels or b&bs which can be a bit dreary, so it's difficult to find anything a bit different.
We found the Cimon very friendly, reasonably central (given that anywhere in Torquay involves a hike up and down hills), and extremely comfortable. A couple of things stand out:
1. The comfort of our room - I rarely sleep well in a strange bed, but managed to do so here. Our room was very clean and beautifully done out.
2. Over-indulging on the massive breakfasts! There was a sort of American slant with waffles and pancakes offered as well as the usual full breakfast grill. Again a bit different and a refreshing change.
The staff were helpful, professional and friendly, laid-back but there if they were needed. I concur with previous reviews about children. We have kids of our own and love them dearly, but it's good to get away to an adults only environment for a few days.
All in all, we were very satisfied. Will I return on my future business trips? Almost certainly - especially given the prices which are all you could reasonably expect and more for the money.

Great value and position

My partner and I stayed at the Cimon a few weeks ago for a couple of days when en route to Cornwall. We booked a superior room. We found the location of the hotel ideal for us - within easy walking distance to most things Torquay can offer, yet quiet enough to offer a peaceful break. Our room was extremely comfortable, clean, and looked as though it had been recently refurbished. It was a good size with the sort of extras that made our stay that much more enjoyable and relaxing. The hosts and staff were very professional, being very welcoming and helpful without being intrusive.
The Cimon's breakfasts were huge, with the sort of choice that you only usually get in much bigger hotels. In particular we appreciated the alternatives available apart from the substantial full English breakfast - good for vegetarians like my partner.
Not having been to Torquay before, the advice of the management as far as their restaurant list and local attractions was concerned was spot on. The ample car parking space was important for us, since with relatively long drives before and after our stay, we didn't really want to drive whilst there.
All in all, the Cimon represents excellent value for money, with everything you need for an extremely comfortable stay. We would certainly return and recommend it to others.

Found this hotel through the internet and found it had some good reviews, we only had one night available and were charged an extra £5 each because of this which was a bit disappointing but time was short so I went ahead and booked.

The pool and surrounding area were lovely so was the scrummy breakfast, the room, although a superior (I think solely on the fact it had a sea view) was small, the en-suite built in to the room so that if you leaned over at the sink your rear end returned to the bedroom, I'm only a size 10 but had to sidle past the wardrobe to get to the other side of the bed!

Having said that it was well positioned, just far enough out of town to be quiet but near enough for convenience and the owners were friendly.

Great Stay in Torquay

My wife and I booked and requsted a quiet room for the weekend at the Hotel Cimon. We received a warm welcome, a superb side room with tastful decor and a four poster bed, added to which a fabulous breakfast which kept us going all day. The outdoor swimming pool was heated and there was a very nice decked area which we sat and had our drinks from the bar. Many people also had breakfast there. With ample parking and its close proximity to all amenities was an ideal stay.

We found Hotel Cimon through Trip Advisor and booked through email which was fine. Our holiday was for 7 nights and we thought the price was very good. The hotel is well situated for walking down to town without being in the middle of everything.

We stayed in a standard room which although small had a lovely bay window with views over Torquay. Our one and only gripe was that we were told we had to have the windows closed whilst not in rooms for security, which we totally understood as we were on the ground floor, but it was quite hot and I think perhaps next time we would ask for a first floor room to avoid this.

The breakfasts were very good and the buffet had a good range of foods available.
The terrace area and bar were nice, although we didn't make it into the pool (too much to see and do around Torquay !!).

Dennis and John, the owners were very friendly and helpful, and we found the girls serviing breakfast really polite and cheerful.

A really good stay - we'll certainly go back to Hotel Cimon again.

I would echo recent posts.
Great location - close to harbour - but not too close.
Pool was a real bonus - nice and warm even in the evening.
Excellent breakfast - esp the home made bread & choice of waffles/crepes.
The no under 12 yrs old policy was welcome and added to the relaxed atmosphere.
Room was clean and tastful, although the bathroom was a bit small. However brilliant value for money.
Fine hosts & staff - all in all highly recommended.

Worth whille places to visit Kents Cavern was much better than expected and very interesting, a definite must do. The arcade with games was a fun and cheerful thing to do after dinner rather than going to busy bars and clubs if not in the mood. Walking down the promanade along the seafront was calming a very pretty plus free! You don't have to spend money to have a good time here. The chips at the seafront at meatfoot were very good.

Mambo bar, sea front Mambo bar on the seafront (near boots) gives an excellent view of the harbour from its terrace - very good, chilled vibe at night
