We as a group spent a T&T weekend there and although the welcome was very warm and friendly the hotel was quite cold & draughty. It was still in the process of refurb which has been going on for some months now. The bathrooms were freezing on what happened to be a very cold weekend. There were lots of little things wrong and when reported nothing was ever done about them (like lights not working etc.)Having said that the meals were good beds comfortable and entertainment very good. We as a group of friends always manage to laugh off our disasters, but we would not return to this hotel.

To start, the room we were in was disgusting, shower was dreadful, couldn't use it, toilet roll on back of cistern (no holder)wash basin in bedroom and when we pulled the plug to let water out it ran straight on to the concrete below, windows that dirty we couldn't see out of them, wouldn't go back if it was free.

Average Hotel with Friendly Staff

We stayed at The Crofton House Hotel for a weekend break and chose it due to the location near the town centre, it is only a five minute walk to Torquay high street. Lucky for us there was just enough parking being off season as there are only about 8 parking spaces on the property, peak season would be a problem as I'm sure the road outside would be full of holiday traffic parked up. The staff we met on our stay were very friendly and although we never had any problems, I'm sure nothing would have been too much trouble for them if asked upon. The room was average but the en-suite shower room really needed renewing, the tiles and grout had been painted at some point and this was now peeling away and looked bad, on the other hand there was the tea and coffee to refresh you after a long drive down and the room was lovely and warm overnight. The indoor pool and spa were great and was very warm so no excuses not to take a dip. Breakfast was as expected with a selection of cereals and fruit and the good old British fry-up, the coffee and toast were delivered hot so no complaints. Overall we give the hotel 6/10 as it was only our room that let it down during our stay, and we have a feeling (seeing building equipment in the car park) the bedrooms are being refurbished, lets hope room 8 is next on their list.

Great value for money, wonderful owners and the food was excellent. The hotel is currently being refurbished but this did not impinge on our group in any way. Would certainly return.

We were a small party of 25-30 year olds staying overnight at this hotel and to say that 'Fred the Ted' (a 60 year old entertainer) was the best part about staying at The Crofton House Hotel would be an understatement! In summary there was appalling parking, the decor in every room was delapidated, the shower smelled like it was connected to the sewers, the carpet would have been better placed in a student flat, the lights didn't work due to a lack of bulbs, the room was freezing and the radiator broken, the smell of 'cooking' along the corridor was something else and along with the mould growing on the gherkins at the bar all contributed to making this experience one we will NEVER forget! No wonder they make you pay on arrival! We sincerley recommend that you do not stay here!

We booked this hotel for a turkey and tinsel break with the previous owners and arrived expecting the whole christmas works. On arrival we found out the hotel had been taken over and not a piece of tinsel was insight. The food (no turkey!)was inedible for the majority of the stay but luckily we filled up on toast! However, we would like to say how friendly the workmen were but would have preferred not to have negotiated the obstacle course they provided. We did find another hotel for our evening entertainment and have already booked another trip. We will not be returning to Crofton House.

A Great Stay

We (My wife and I) were part of a group of 12 (50+ age) on a four day stay DBB. It was a really good deal financially, though we were very concerned and ready for battle on arrival, having seen some poor reviews just the day before. The owners and staff couldn't have been more helpful and accommodating. We were in a room that was perfectly adequate. It overlooked a quiet road. It was warm, with crisp clean white sheets. Each day the comfortable bed was made and the room was tidied. The shower was fine, towels were provided, and happily replaced when required. There were provisions for making hot drinks. This was a room that as yet has not been refurbished. The food was of a high standard, the menu was varied and individual reqirements were catered for by the chefs. Our group included three vegetarians and a vegan. Not one of our party was dissatisfied, and this has not always been the case in previous hotels and restaurants. There was refurbishment going on, but this did not impinge on us at all. We spent three evenings entirely in the hotel and very much enjoyed the weekend entertainment provided. This, as with all aspects of this welcoming hotel reflects the dedication of the new management team in working hard at making a name for the Crofton House Hotel. I would definitely recommend it. This TripAdvisor Member: Liked — Friendliness and helpfulness of all staff Disliked — Layout of changing rooms of the heated swimming pool.( The pool itself was excellent).

This was one of the worst hotels we have ever stayed in. We didn't expect luxury, but they can't even meet basic standards. A room that absolutely stank of damp, carpet not hoovered - covered in grit, return to room at 11pm and no toilet paper, disgusting sheets riddled with moth holes, absolutely hopeless parking (assured parking not a problem but actually tiny car park three deep with parked in cars and no street parking - very annoying). The whole place is shabby and run down - much, much worse than its brochure implies. Don't stay there!

We have just stayed at the Crofton on a five day tour with national holidays. The hotel was lovely and the staff could not do enough for you. The food was very good too. A lovely cosy dining room on an evening with lovely views. Will return again.

We have been staying at Crofton House Hotel for a week in November for the last 4 years. We have never had a bad holiday. The owners, James and Mae are warm people and who value their customers and are on hand to join in the fun of the evening entertainment. The hotel is warm and clean and the staff are very polite. The hotel is rated a 2* but really should be a 3*. We always go down to stay on a week when they hold 'Turkey and Tinsel' (Nov - Dec) and it really gets us in the mood for the festive season. We are regular travellers abroad, but we always rate our Crofton House holiday as the best because of the hospitable welcome and the visitors book proves it. Give it a try!
