4 hotels badly joined into one. 1 families ceiling collapsed when it rained & 2 others to my knowledge had rain coming in. We had 2 windows in our small room 1 with a view of a brick wall 2ft from the window & we were on the 3rd floor and the other overlooked the car park with early wake up calls from the dustman at 5.30am one day and 6am another. How the staff managed to remain cheerful and so helpful when they had Fawlty Towers to cope with I don't know!

Spent three nights at Cavendish. Found staff friendly, pleasant. Food, and service was excellent, room was big and clean. Stayed in other hotels around the country and would recommend this one.

I stayed at The Cavendish Hotel last week and am at a relatives this week in Torquay. We had a great holiday at The Cavendish, the staff were really helpful, the pool was fab, we had a lovely room and the food was tasty and hot served by excellent staff. We will definitely be back next year, and would recommend it to our friends and family.

We booked for 10 nights but stayed one - and we wouldn't have done that if we could have found somewhere else to go.
The facilities are simply not as described - the indoor pool was closed for repair but was in a terrible state and needed completely rebuilding, the small gym didn't work at all, the internet access promised didn't work - some one has stolen their router,
Our first room was so small we couldn't both get in it and turn round. In fairness this was changed within 30 minutes of us arriving and the second room was much better.
But the clincher for us was the food - it was prepacked, catering style made down to a price. Portions were small and fairly tasteless. The "chocolate and pear sponge pudding" was actuall a jam donut! The waiter cut it in half when we complained and then tried to tell us the strawberry jam was actually chocolate and pear. When we complained he said he's have to see his boss!! It was straight out of Fawlty Towers!
Don't go there - it isn't even cheap!

Would not recommend this hotel to the homeless. Poor service, shoddy rooms, and cold food that's supposed to be hot. Don't let the smart reception fool you!

Top Local Tips for Torquay

cabaret Kistor hotel is excellent for cabaret every night is party night.

Book a reserved seat on the train. If your getting the train from Paddington London, to Newton abbot, or I guess also direct to Torquay, book a seat; It seems to regularly be standing room only for those who don't have a reserved seat.
