Brilliant location
from A TripAdvisor Member
Just returned from a weekend break at the Moat House which was for my father's 80th birthday. The staff upgraded our rooms & my parents had a very large room with beautiful views. The outside terrace was lovely and was a great place to sit in the evening. We have stayed in Stratford before but the Moat House has the best position of all the hotels. What it lacks in character is made up by its super position, its pleasant staff and its well appointed rooms. The only negative comment I would make is that the restaurant is understaffed - the buffet is not replenished quickly enough, and tables not cleared quickly enough.
We really enjoyed our stay and will be back!

Perfect for us!

This large hotel was definitely more than we expected. It was in a great location, very central and we could walk everywhere we wanted to go in Stratford. The room was large with all amenities we needed, clean and comfortable. We considered having the buffet dinner but thought it was a little pricey. However, we enjoyed sitting out in the garden area where we enjoyed food and drink. We had prebooked online and thought it was excellent value for the money.
Beds and mugs!

This hotel is fine for its location - right on the river (almost!) and centrally located. It is bright and airy enough. Downsides include the use of mugs instead of cups and saucers, the 'serve yourself' breakfast coffee from a defunct machine and the extremely soft/lumpy beds and pillows. This hotel appears to target large parties (especially those having a weekend 'do' in the ballroom), 'conferences' and American tourists. Quaint it aint, but it is servicable.
Stratford Moat House Excellent service

We honeymooned there for one night last October. The room was upgraded for us, staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good, huge variety of self service food available, everything you could think of for breakfast. Tea and coffee from machine, but not at all bad. Free to come and go as you wish. Room extremely comfortable and warm enough.
Very average

The location of this hotel could not be better - perfect for strolling back to at the end of a day's sight seeing.
That said, the decor which the brochures refer to as traditional, is very tired and a bit ropey around the edges - more 70s than anything. The bathroom was pokey and very basic.
The breakfast - the worst we have had anywhere. It was a bit better the second day as we were up earlier and therefore things like the bacon and eggs were freshly cooked - but going later in the morning meant the fried eggs were like novelty rubber ones and my croissant was so dry it almost disintegrated when I cut into it.
The hotel bar/diner is not very nice. On the night we went in for a quick drin (and we made it quick!) it was full of kids - 18 year old students, we felt decidedly old and overdressed.
If I ever went back to Stratford I might stay here because the location is great - but it would have to be a cheap deal, which thankfully ours was. I would be very annoyed if I had paid the rack rate.

Very pleasing and relaxing stay

The pleasantness of the staff was as commendable as the location, food and value for money. Whilst the first room we were allocated had a subtle smell of vomit, obviously caused by the previous guests, they were very quick to move us to another room when we phoned for assistance. We even got a complementary bottle of champagne to take home with us as an apology - can't say fairer than that. Very satisfactory.
splendid hotel for a stay in stratford
from A TripAdvisor Member
just returned from a two night weekend break at the stratford moat house. this hotel has a great location for stratford and it's attractions. only a short walk from the hotel is the river and rsc theatre and is a stones throw from shops and restaurants. check in was efficient and our room was immediately available. the room itself was spacious, well equipped and spotlessly clean. Only criticism of the room was that the matress was too soft, myself and my partner seemed to sink into a crater when we got into bed!!
Although not having dinner, we were certainly impressed with the high quality of the buffet breakfast offering a wide selection of hot and cold items. the food was delicious, it is however advisable to eat breakfast before 9.30 am before queues start to develop.
throughout our stay the service from all staff in the hotel was impeccable. all were friendly, helpful and curteous and met any requests speedily and with no fuss. We made use of the gym, pool and sauna facilities which were modern and of a high standard. The hotel is situated in tranquil and peaceful grounds. we highly recommend this hotel and will certainly come again.

t fault it

Just spent an 8-day holiday here and was totally satisfied with everything about it. Clean, comfortable, well-equipped rooms, most friendly and attentive staff in every department, breakfast splendid, lounges and bars large and comfortable. I wonder whether some critical reviewers got the hotel name wrong! Some may baulk at a buffet-type meal every evening but it suited us perfectly and, if the restaurant is busy . . go back a little later, its open for long enough!
Would I return? Too darned right I would!!

Thumping Disco
from A TripAdvisor Member
There's a real noise problem here. The first room we were allocated hummed like the engine room of a battleship. We complained and were shown a room with tatty furniture. We rejected this and were given a pleasant looking room that we later found out was over the hotel's nightclub. The thudding noise kept us awake until midnight the first night and 1am the second. Staff were sympathetic but powerless to do anything.
Not a Bad Place!
from JOHNBTV
This is a very nice property. One item that places it highly for us is that the room was air conditioned, apparently a rare commodity in United Kingdom hotels. Within walking distance of most attractions, including Shakespeare's Birthplace. Driving instructions to hotel were adequate. Most hotel personnel were helpful, but the restaurant employees left something to be desired. It's still tough getting used to paying for your meals BEFORE you eat them. And having to sign a separate check every time my Coke was refilled! Enough, already!! All-in-all, though, would certainly stay here again.

Ann Hathaways House If you tour inside Shakespair's Hourse Birthplace, then there's little point in touring Ann Hathaway's house, i.e. more of the same
If you fancy Chinese.... e walked around for some time trying to find one!! We eventually found one at the crossroads in the main part of town, its above all of the shops!
