Historical Traveller Reviews of Ettington Park Hotel

What a hote!

from issay
What a hotel. We have never experienced anything like this.An overnight stay at ettington park, was much, much more than a quick break. From the moment we walked into the lobby, we were treated like the most special guests ever. Our room was faultless.Spotlessly clean, large plasma screen t.v., mp3 player and dvd.The bathroom and toiletries superb. The bed dressed as if in a magazine! Personalised letters arrived enquiring as to our satisfaction, nothing too much trouble.A complimentry bottle of wine arrived quite unexpectedly, tea and coffee replenished, as was our bath towels after being used. The staff were very helpfull and cheerfull---something not often seen in hotels. We have stayed in many hotels often being very satisfied, but Ettington park took us to a new level.I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough, and we shall definately return., especially at the very resonable rates found on sites like tripadvisor.

Just the best Christmas ever......................................

from saintTropez
Mike (the hotel Manager), thanks for having us. We all thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, the staff were all great the food was just outstanding, everything about our stay was perfect. Christmas will bring back memories that we wont forget for a long time.

The rooms are fantastich from the huge flat screen tv's to the tastefull decor. The ever attentive staff are exceptioanaly well manered, and the food was just perfect, Gilles the head cheff even finds the time to introduce himself personaly. My wife has some special diatry requirements which Gilles not only managed to accomodate, but exceeded.

A fantastic stay in a stately home that is steeped in history what more can you ask for.

Thanks again Ettington Park for everything, it really does feel as if we are being invited into someone's home, and being made to feel so welcome, its really an experience to cherish.

Stay in a Castle!

from Stanleyps
Ettington Park is an amazingly beautiful old house/castle. It's history goes back 1000 years. A stay here is like stepping back in time. Walking the 40 acres is so pastoral you feel like you're in a Jane Austin novel.
I had a large suite with huge windows, antique furniture and a fireplace overlooking the gardens and the entry. The staff falls over themselves to be accomodating. Everywhere around you is history!
The only minor distractions were: a) Dinner was not wonderful. Very limited choices, and those were ill-thought out and executed. I resorted to meals in Stratford-upon-Avon. Breakfast was nice, though; b) only adequate bathrooms. Very old (not in the good sense) and barely serviceable (BAD shower and linoleum on the floor!); c) make sure there is not a wedding or reception scheduled during your stay. They are all over, very noisy, inconsiderate of other hotel guests, and the staff is geared to serve them at the expense of non-wedding guests.
The only other MINOR comment would be the flowers. Why, in the countryside of England, would you feature elaborate faux-tropical abstract flower arrangements? It was jarring to walk into a lovely old drawing room with beautiful country furniture to see these strange arrangements. But, when that's all you can find to complain about it's not so bad.
Ettington Park is magical and will take you to another time and place. I can't wait to return. Highly recommended!

breathtaking in every way

from eversexychic
from the moment we entered the grounds, we were transported into another world. The house is in the most beautiful setting, with the Norman Chapel soaking up the ambience of the place. The staff were most welcoming, polite, curtious, and very proud of their place of work. This showed with the enthusiasm in which they told of the house's history, most fasinating! Our suite was just amazing, we were given the Shirley Room, with its grand four poster bed, fabulous theatrical themed bathroom, and more floor space then the whole downstairs of our house! We were visiting Ettington to book our forthcoming wedding, and we both knew instantly that we had found the perfect venue. We would highly recommend this experience to anyone who would appreciate the magic of history, and the elegance of a past time, of which this house has in abundance. Thank you to all at Ettington Park, for making our stay a fairy tale x Look forward to seeing you all in August. Sharon O'Connor and Tim Alford

Wish we had more time...

from Schnap
..we unfortunately arrived much later than we would have liked due to a 6 hour flight delay.
So we arrived tired, sweaty and miserable...the drive up to the "house" already calmed us considerably and the warm reception and friendly staff made us feel at home immediately.

We had a larger room in the older part of the building overlooking the entrance. It was comfortably furnished and fairly well maintained. We bathed because the shower pressure was non-existant - not a problem for us.

We opted to dine at the hotel due to our later arrival and were not disappointed. The food and service were fabulous - only bad thing was the after dinner "espresso" - more of a strong coffee with no crema. Would recommend getting a proper machine, otherwise perfect.

Unfortunately we couldn't use the pool and spa area due to repairs so we cannot offer comment here.

Breakfast though very good was a bit chaotic and slow due to arranging of what looked like a bigger party in the drawing room.

We are hoping to return again for a longer period of time to walk the grounds, spa, etc. in a more relaxed atmosphere.

Lovely location and hotel

from Teddies
We stayed for one night and enjoyed the grounds and magnificant building. We were tempted to our evening meal and the food was lovely. The service could not be faulted and the gentleman showing us to our room was wonderful. There was a Wedding reception but the noise was not heard until 3am when the couple in the room next door were arguing. We even new their names by the end of the long night. I am sure if you stayed in the main old part of the hotel this would not be a problem. Deliveries then disturbed us at 5am so we did not sleep well although the bed and the room was spot on. The breakfast was lovely overlooking the old church. I would definately stay again but would book a room that had thicker walls! Unfortunately we could not stay long enough to enjoy the pool but it did look every inviting.

Too much of a good thing

from Scarletti
Beautiful grounds and very stylish, contemporary, clean room. Service was mostly of a high standard. Only downside was the number of wedding parties. The small reception (with a solo member of staff) was teeming at check-in, check-out and most of the day and night with what seemed like back-to-back nuptials. If you're looking for a romantic getaway, this hotel - despite the dreamy setting - may be a disappointment, unless of course you are the happy couple and all these people are your friends! Best to check when you make your booking.

Fantastic hotel

from hball
stayed at this hotel in July 2006. After mixed reviews on this site we decided to give it the benefit of the doubt after looking at their own web site. We were not disappointed in any way. the hotel and rooms are of an excellent standard (plasma TVs!) and the service was always friendly, polite and top notch. If anything, our ONLY reservation was that food in the restaurant was not seasoned terribly well - but that's easy enough to rectify.

all in all an excellent hotel and excellent value for money. Highly recommended.

Fantastic everthing!!

from Benjamin79
From the moment I drove down the tree lined drive, I knew that this hotel would be something special.
The greeting and assitance I recieved from the young front hall porter, was nothing short of hospitality at its best. I was shown efficently to my"newly" refurbished bedroom and everything was explained to me.
Obviously alot of money has been spent on the refurbishment with loverly decore and state of the art LCD screens. Amazing!

The gounds are stunning, the ruined church just adds to the overall feeling of history that seems to surround you. My advice is to ask for a tour with the old porter who knows everything there is to know (We think he was actually born there!!).

Dinner in the restaurant is a highlight of the stay. The menu offers a good choice and the Gourmet Menu that we had was super. The wine list is expansive with written explanations of many of the wines and regions of origin. The service we recieved was delightful with staff obviously very caring of there guests experiences.

After dinner we relaxed in the lounge and the bar staff provided us with congacs that they recommended. The scene was wonderful with candles and a live pianist adding to atomosphere.

All in all we had a amazing time, the staff are well trained and thoughtful. Service is delivered with a smile and engaging conversation. We would recommend this hotel to anybody who wants to be pampered and relax.

The only negative we could find was the tiny salt & pepper shakers on the terrace !!

Loved the Place

from Silver_Spork1
I am picky when it comes to hotels and travel a lot, and I am surprised at the mixed reviews - which I assume were price driven. The rooms cost around $200 night. It is like staying at some Duke's home in the english country side. The grounds are a lavish - over 40 acres - truly breath taking, with a lot of rabbits roaming the grounds. The place has greta history, and teher are even teh ruins of a cathedral a few yards from teh hotel, when tehy moved teh village to make sure that the gentry did not get sick from the commoners illnesses. The rooms are huge, by any standard, with plasma TVs. The food is excellent. The staff is amazing. I stayed here for 4 days and will definitely return.
