Best Hotel in Strattford for business travellers

from Dansladen
I travel to this region twice a year and always stay in the Strattford area because of the many restaurants and stores within walking distance of many hotels in town. I have never had luck staying a good hotel until now when I booked 3 nights at the Best Western (aka Grovesnor Hotel). I booked my room by calling the hotel directly and got a very affordable GBP 69,00 per night. Check in was quick and easy but beware if you got heavy luggage and stay in the second floor as you will have to carry it up the small hotel stairs. Room was modern, large enough and clean. The hotel has wireless internet but it does not work in all areas. I was in one of those areas and the hotel provided me with a network cable. Internet is free which is rare for hotels in this price range. Be aware that if you come late in the evening, the hotel parking might be full and you will have to use a city-parking lot about 500 feet from the hotel. In all, I will be using this hotel from now on, as all the other hotels in the area do not come close to the positive experience I had at the Best Western, Strattford.

Can be chilly

from davidpMiltonKeynes
Spotless and friendly hotel part of a small chain. Excellent breakfast with wide buffet choice and high quality traditional cooked English breakfast. Very close to town centre and theatre. Rooms very freshly furnished and decorated with sparkling bathroom. Comfortable beds and good linen and towels. On a cold February weekend, heating was only switched on each time after a request, although it was effective as soon as you asked!

Very nice and convenient location

from QueensburyJanet
My son, his lady and I spent two days at this hotel in early Feb.to see the Royal Shakespeare Company. We traveled from London on a direct train and arrived at the Hotel around noon. Our rooms were not ready, but we were able to occupy them before the stated 2 pm check-in. They were spacious and clean with what appeared to be almost new decor. Both had very comfortable beds, good TVs and spacious bathrooms with heated towel racks, deep tubs , showers, big fluffy towels and hair dryers. Tea/coffee makers came with ample supplies that included simple cookies. We didn't eat at the restaurant but had tea, cocoa and sandwiches in the attractive lounge. My room was chilly but ,when I complained, a good space heater was provided at once. The location was a short walk to the Shakespeare Theaters, various Shakespeare historic sites and a pleasant town center. Room prices were very reasonable through an internet travel site but, unlike most English hotels, no breakfast was included. It was available and a bit expensive but good. I would definitely stay here again.

Very nice thankyou...

from theElf
Booked the hotel on the strength of the reviews here, and because of the location to the RSA. We went to see Merry Wives and while the show didnt meet with our expectations, the Hotel made up for it in a lot of ways. The atmosphere was lovely, as was the room. Huge bed, sparkling clean bathroom and plenty of space. We didnt have much interaction with staff but from what little contact we had we found them friendly and helpful. On the downside the drinks in the bar were a little pricey, but the bar area was welcoming and comfortable.
We visited the little Thai bistro across the road as mentioned by one reviewer, and a french coffee shop in the town and was disappointed by neither. A perfect evening despite the Merry Wives! Would definately stay here again.

Best hotel in Stratford - and compared to most anywhere

from The Great Dad
We came across The Grosvenor on the Internet while seeking a suitable event at which to celebrate New Year. They offered us a special deal for the following night too which we were pleased to take up and were delighted that we had done so.

Staff (stretching from reception, chefs, dining room, event organisers, bar, cleaning.......right through to senior management) were helpful in the extreme, friendly and could not do enough for us. Food (six wonderful chefs, I believe), accommodation and service were magnificent. We could not fault anyone or anything in any way and will recommend the hotel without hesitation. From our experience, we would regard the Grosvenor as the very best in Stratford. We do a lot of travelling and it stands comparison with just about everywhere. And, by way of added bonus, the hotel is within walking distance of shops, theatre and the places of interest which attract people to the town in the first place!

Christmas House Party

from mysteryguest1
The Christmas House Party from 24-27 December 2006 was fun, relaxing and totally enjoyable. The manager Neil and his assistant Nicky really do deserve special mention, Neil for ensuring everything was done for the comfort of the guests, and Nicky for her very hard work in the entertainment area. I cannot remember the name of the Restaurant Manager from the Highlands, but she too deserves a mention for ensuring the Restaurant ran so smoothly. The complimentary bowls of fruit, bowls of nuts and sweets were in endless supply, as were the mulled wine and mince pies after the Christmas Eve service, with Nicky there to greet us. The rooms are immaculately clean and well presented, and actually trying to find your room (without a compass or map) only added to the fun!! This hotel is definitely recommended only don't bother paying £10 per night for an upgrade, the standard rooms are on a par with the executive rooms so I felt we wasted £30.00 on an upgrade.

terrific stay

from rscfan
I was a bit worried about my stay, given some of the reviews on this site - but it's the best hotel I've stayed in in Stratford. I was given one of the rooms with a fridge in it, and this one single thing made my whole stay. Just a joy to have somewhere to put milk and snacks. Also they have extra digital freeview channels, and room service and it's in a perfect spot. There's even a sneaky shortcut to the theatres - head towards town for about 30 seconds until you see a little opening in the brick wall on the right, with a municipal anti-dog sign, and follow the little path down to the canal. Follow it three minutes and you're by the Avon in front of the theatres. I was in one of the front rooms, on the main road, and noise was not a problem at all. I will definitely be returning, in fact I'm already booked in for my next trip!

Treatment by Management

from PrivateInvestigator
I made a genuine complaint to the Hotel Management. I made my complaint from the point of view of highlighted a problem that had occurred and to also alert them of a possible future problem and I did so with a high degree of courtesy.

Intsead of being treated with respect I was treated appallingly and was in fact insulted at the remarks and the tone of the Hotel Manager. I found him extremely defensive and with a definite hint of aggression.

Even when I tried to discuss the matter, I was talked over and in my opinion belittled and I was personally insulted.

I consider this no way to do business or to gain future business.

Up until this point the time I spent there had been satisfactory.

But the hostile attitude of the Hotel Manager to what was a genuine request for help and to alert him of what I considered a problem and what others had in fact noticed, totally soured my view of this Hotel.

At Paten Hotels we strive to investigate the circumstances of all complaints and negative reviews. In this instance we have been unable to ascertain which member of the management team received the guest's complaint and the nature of this negative feedback.

If the writer of this review wishes to contact me (libbie@patenhotels.co.uk) on the e-mail address shown, with more information regarding the complaint, I will ensure that the matter is looked into and brought to the attention of company directors.

Great location Friendly staff

from avitawayday
I can’t really fault this hotel. I Stayed here for the weekend at the end of Septmeber with a group of friends. We had three standard rooms and they were spotless, nicely decorated and in good condition. The shower was hot and powerful and the complimentary toiletries were a nice touch. The only reservation I have is that the standard rooms don't have air conditioning, I think this may be a problem in the middle of summer as the rooms were quite hot even at the end of September. The breakfast was good and plentiful with lots of choice both hot and cold. The hotel is ideally located if you are going to the theatre as it’s only a short stroll from the RSC and town centre shops and restaurants. The staff were very helpful and friendly, overall our stay was a pleasant one. I would definitely stay here again and have no hesitation in recommending this hotel to others.

Treated poorly by management

from sfaust
Won't go back!!!!
The rooms were average and the location to the Shakepere Theater was close in proximity. There were many issues with the staff and managment. Our entire tour group of 30 did not have a good thing to say about this place and the lack of care during our stay. We will definitely vacation in England again, but will steer clear of this hotel.

Top Local Tips for Stratford upon Avon

Reservations essential Stratford on Avon doesn't have a lot of places to eat and few are really good. Check out the restaurant yourself (everything is in walking distance) and reserve ahead of time You can't call at 3 or 4 and get a spot. Eating places close early so make sure your hotel has late night dining or prepare to go hungry.

Warwick CAstle If your staying in Stratford I'd definately go to Warwick Castle. Its a great day out.If you have a tesco club card there's a really good deal with the vouchers. I used £4 of my vouchers and saved on the £14.70 on the entrance tickets.
