Historical Traveller Reviews of Hilton London Stansted Airport Hotel
Great Improvements
from A TripAdvisor MemberNot the most luxurious Hilton in the world, but it works OK
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe restaurant was very busy, but the quality of food wasn't particularly stunning.
Parking and courtesy bus service were fine, and the price was reasonable.
Diabolical - you might as well get up early.
from A TripAdvisor MemberThe standard of this Hilton is breathtakingly basic. There was no minibar in the room which for an airport hotel, especially one purporting to be 4 star, is not helpful. The shower curtain was inadequate, consequently the bathroom floor was flooded - dangerously so.
Booking online requires eagle-eyed scrolling through all the rates, right down to the bottom, to ensure you are getting absolutely the cheapest deal; and be warned that Hilton's internet Best Rate 'guarantee' is subject to many exemptions and exclusions.
If you want a hotel close to the airport pay a bit more and book the Radisson - otherwise, just grit your teeth and set the alarm clock however much earlier is required!
My partner and I have between us stayed in many hotels throughout Europe and this is the first time either of us has felt compelled to post a review.
Good Hotel
from 123tazThe bar is really expensive
Overall 8/10
Expensive meals and luke-warm water
from Johnjo42A couple of weeks before going I sent an e-mail to the hotel and to their head office asking if they'd read the reviews and whether they had any comments and had made improvements. I said that I hoped to be able to say something good! No reply.
The hotel was easy to find and the room was very comfortable if somewhat dark as the lighting is poor. Biggest problem was that I fancied a long soak in the bath before dinner but couldn't because of a crazy system under which you can only run hot water for the bath using the thermostatic controlled shower which wouldn't go above warm. Water in the sink was piping hot but no way of getting it into the bath, so we had to boil up the kettle! 4 star hotel?
We didn't arrive till about 7 and didn't fancy going out so we ate in the restaurant. In our view the prices are exorbitant especially the wines. As someone else has said they know they have a captive audience for one night only and try to make the most they can out of them. We decided to have the carvery which was more reasonable for a 2 course meal but no better quality than you'd get at a Toby. It's probably better to arrive early, check in and then eat out.
The transfers to and from the airport were easy. Coach goes every 30 minutes and was on time. There was plenty of room and parking was no problem either.
We completed the guest questionnaire complaining about the inability to have a hot bath and received a fairly stock letter of apology but no
indication that the system will be changed.
On balance we'd stay elsewhere next time
horrible appart from the staff
from moschino24_98absolutely dreadful
from franciI booked 2 rooms (interconnecting), one with a crib at a special park and fly rate through Hilton central reservations. I was assured all of the above and told that the rate included free parking for 15 days and thereafter parking would be at £6 per day. All good. Confirmation sent.
Yesterday, I decided to double-check the booking and rang the hotel direct and spoke to their own reservations team. To my surprise I was told -
1. Crib was not guaranteed
2. We did NOT have an interconnecting room
3. The car parking rate was wrong. It was in fact 15 free days with the 16th day charged at £4 and thereafter £12 per day.
Having worked for Marriott hotels, I understood points 1 and 2, as it is a fact that these requests are never guaranteed - so, although a pain, not a real upset.
BUT, point 3, the rate issue really upset me, as did the reservation agents attitiude. When I questioned how central reservations could make such a huge error with the parking price I was kindly informed - "oh yeah, they do it all the time. They're useless. It's definitely £12 and there's nothing I can do about it". And that was it.
I asked the agent why, as she knew that central reservations were misquoting parking rates, had she not taken the innitiative to tell them, she laughed and said "oh, they wouldn't take any notice of me".
I was then informaed by the agent that normal people only go away for a week or 2 so the £12 charge was good and that I was unusual because I was going on holiday for 4 weeks. She was a real charmer!
I felt absolutely livid. It sems awfully dishonest on both parts (central ressies and internal ressies) and the satff attitude is appaling.
As I had an early flight and 2 small children I felt obliged to stick with the booking - which I suppose is what they're banking on.
However, this morning I decided that I couldn't let them get away with it and cancellled. I'd rather get up an hour earlier and have a bit of an early morning nightmare than give these people my money.
Please, I implore everyone who books at this hotel to check and re-check the deal as I really think there is something very dishonest going on. Be careful, you have been warned.
Finally, can I add that if the reservation agent's lack of customer service skills are anything to go on then the hotel must be dreadful and judging by ALL the other user reviews - IT IS.
Nothing spectacular but friendly staff

from ZarekHow wrong can you be ! This Hilton lacks any charm, the lobby comparable to railway station and the rooms devoid of all interest. The bistro style "restaurant" reminded me of motorway services. It really felt as if I might as well have been staying at a budget chain hotel. I wondered how the hotel star system can possibly be working.
Stay here if you must, but don't expect it to be a rewarding or romantic start to a holiday.
OK as a stopover
from GreshamRestaurant was out of commission while we were there but as we arrived late and left early this was not a problem.
Shuttle service works well (£2 per person return, but no-one checked our tickets) and it's convenient for the airport. We have used it three or four times and while it's not great it's not awful either.
By the way check your change at the bar - I was short changed and I didn't feel it was accidental.
Top Local Tips for Stansted
Great pub for evening meals The Three Willows at Birchanger, some five minutes from Stansted does an exceptional home cooked menu in the evenings. So close to Stansted airport, yet still a thousand miles away, this pub is a real find, and offer some of the best pub hearty food ive had for years. Forget the hotel restaurants if you are staying in stansted the night before a flight, make a trip to this place, but book. BTW, it doesnt do starters, but with the meals as big as they are, it doesnt mater.
Get to bus early The buses only run every half hour to airport. When we got there, there were loads of people waiting to board, and we had to stand for the 10 minute ride holding on to our bags. It was awful, and it costs 2 pounds per person ($4 US). A terrible experience.
This hotel should be shut down Saty Away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
