It did not feel like a holiday

Well the reviews are either excellent or terrible for this hotel which is odd. Personally I hated the hotel and agree with every negative comment concerning the hotel and owners. I stayed last year and it has taken that long to even think or write about the unfortunate experience.

This is the worst hotel i have ever stayed in. The owners are very miserable and rude. On arriving we were locked out as the elderly male owner was busy booking his friends in. My five year old child needed the toilet desperatly but we were told we had to wait. The family room was pokey and dirty and the breakfast was a laugh a minute and felt we were in a prison camp. We went for a drink into the empty bar and the atmosphere was awfull. We tried to make polite conversation with the owner but all we got was yes and no and were treated like we should not be there. The people who are giving positive comments about this establishment are obviously the owners friends or enjoy people being rude to them. whenever we went out we did not look forward to going back. This spoilt are holiday in the beautiful Town of st Ives.

We hated this place

Very rude owners make it plain you are staying in their house rather than a paying guest. Crazy half hour breakfast window, smelly tiny rooms. We had an en-suite bathroom but the shower was a joke(we did not have a bath) Oh and if you complain it is not warmly recieved. The owners seem to have some very old friends that visit annually(god knows why) but they appear to be the only welcome guests. The rooms have been carved up at some time so your room is small and you can hear all the activities of your neighbours so I assume the reverse is true.

Throughout the stay the staff were brilliant with my residents that are disabled mentally and physically. The food was excellent, the rooms were spot on. We will be back

Just reading the reviews and all I can say is WHAT A LOAD OF TOSH. Me and my family have been visiting the Long Ships Hotel for over 17 years and with our children for over 10 and every time we arrive we get greeted with warmth and friendliness from all who are involved in a fantastic family run hotel. My children who are now 10 and 13 always look forward to having our holidays in St.Ives and get treated like part of the owners family. We are unable to have our holidays at the Long Ships this year but will look forward to next year with loving people and friends, fantastic food and gorgeous sunny weather. I had a surprise 40th Birthday 2 years ago and it was fantastic. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK .

We have stayed here many times over the past fifteen years. It is spotlessly clean, comfortable and welcoming. Our boys used to come when they were little and were always made very welcome. Clive, Olive and Staff are very friendly and helpful and are very knowledgeable about the local tourist attractions. We are going again for a weekend in May this year with another couple who have also stayed at the Longships before. We are so looking forward to it. Fabulous hotel, great value, great views. We thoroughly recommend it.

I had a family reunion at the Longships and it was ruined by the miserable owners. No smile on arrival just a list of do's and dont's. Our room was a reasonable size but not very clean. The bathroom was functional. The breakfast is served from 8.30 to 9 and on the second morning due to baby issues we arrived at 9am to be told we were too late. There were lots of other issues, but I think you get the idea. I never looked forward so much to going home after this holiday.

The good- 1 Breakfast, good selection well served 2 Bar is available at night and has some entertainment arranged. 3 Parking area tight but workable. 4 Lots of hot water. The fair- 5 clean 6 Easy to find The bad- 7 Definitely NOT child friendly. 8 The owners are rude and definitely make you feel that you are lucky to stay with them. 9 Although the breakfast is good you only have a 30 minutes window to take it which is 8.30 to 9 so don't oversleep because at 9 sharp the breakfast room closes. Oh and don't leave your breakfast to go to the loo as it will be taken away and not replaced. 10- If you book a family room make sure it's not in the attic because when you open the Velex window you can smell sewage from the soil pipes coming through the roof. 11-The room we had was very small and stuffy but if you open the window the seagull noise is unbelievable. 12-We had a shower in our room as did my parents, but they are old Mira types and do not maintain a temperature. My dad was scalded by the water temperature. If you mention this to the owners it's your fault not the equipment. 13- I had 5 rooms booked in this place for one week and had my grandchildren with me. The owners had a gripe at us almost every day about one thing or another. Some example are- Accusing us of leaving the front door off the latch even though we did not. Using the side door to come into the hotel which is apparently only allowed when the bar is open. My grandaughter is 4 and had an accident and wet the bed one morning and we where told if it happened again we would have to pay for a mattress. Oh and if the fire alarm goes off at 8.20 like it did for us you will assemble in the car park to be told it is a guests fault as someone had a hot shower and the steam set the alarm off. Conclusion- St Ives is a lovely place with some really nice hotels. It's up to you, but I will not be spending my hard earned money at the Longships ever again.
