What a shame

However we did not receive a warm welcome or even a smile after our long drive. What we did get on check in was a list of "the rules" just what your looking for on holiday. These are various and there are hand written signs around the place in case you forget. Our room was very small, dated and not as clean as my own house. My husband found some of the previous residents personal items under the bed and in the bedside draw. We enjoyed our stay in St Ives, it's such a lovely place but the hotel and its staff left a lot to be desired so we definitey won't be staying there again. Originally when we booked our stay, there was only one negative review and 3 positive for the Longships Hotel. I wish we had trusted the one bad review now as a lot of people have recently complained, but too late for us to change our plans.
Spare yourself!

First of all, the owners of this establishment are horrendously rude. They portray the hotel as being child-friendly, but they are definitely not. Our grown children and grandchildren were treated terribly, all the way to the level of the staff pilfering through their rubbish bins. Unbelievable! The rudeness was not limited to young people, however. They were equally rude to my in-laws who are in their 70's. The owners seem only to be interested in entertaining their friends, who seemed to be around a lot, and seem not to care at all about paying guests.
The service at breakfast left a lot to be desired. Although there is a buffet bar, patrons are not allowed to refill their own coffee, and are forced to wait for the servers, who are not very attentive, and often beyond rude, and rush the customers out. After our experience with breakfast, we decided not to bother with the over-priced supper. The showers are tiny, substandard, and the hot water is so hot that it is dangerous for children, or anyone else for that matter. We stayed for almost a week, and our room was never vacuumed, and the bin in the loo was never changed. We booked here to have a nice family holiday, but our experience with this hotel was the worst any of us have ever had. It was so bad that we decided to leave early because we could not tolerate it any longer. Sadly, my husband and I travelled from the U.S.A. to be treated this way. I would not recommend anyone else cross the street for this.

The good-
1 Breakfast, good selection well served
2 Bar is available at night and has some entertainment arranged.
3 Parking area tight but workable.
4 Lots of hot water.
The fair-
5 clean
6 Easy to find
The bad-
7 Definitely NOT child friendly.
8 The owners are rude and definitely make you feel that you are lucky to stay with them.
9 Although the breakfast is good you only have a 30 minutes window to take it which is 8.30 to 9 so don't oversleep because at 9 sharp the breakfast room closes. Oh and don't leave your breakfast to go to the loo as it will be taken away and not replaced.
10- If you book a family room make sure it's not in the attic because when you open the Velex window you can smell sewage from the soil pipes coming through the roof.
11-The room we had was very small and stuffy but if you open the window the seagull noise is unbelievable.
12-We had a shower in our room as did my parents, but they are old Mira types and do not maintain a temperature. My dad was scalded by the water temperature. If you mention this to the owners it's your fault not the equipment.
13- I had 5 rooms booked in this place for one week and had my grandchildren with me. The owners had a gripe at us almost every day about one thing or another. Some example are- Accusing us of leaving the front door off the latch even though we did not. Using the side door to come into the hotel which is apparently only allowed when the bar is open. My grandaughter is 4 and had an accident and wet the bed one morning and we where told if it happened again we would have to pay for a mattress. Oh and if the fire alarm goes off at 8.20 like it did for us you will assemble in the car park to be told it is a guests fault as someone had a hot shower and the steam set the alarm off.
Conclusion-
St Ives is a lovely place with some really nice hotels. It's up to you, but I will not be spending my hard earned money at the Longships ever again.

This was our first visit to the Longships hotel and it was everything that we had expected. The staff were really friendly and welcoming. We only had b&b but the breakfast was very tasty & plenty of it. the only complaint would be a bit more variety please. Otherwise everything brilliant
Great Hotel, Holiday,Staff and Weather.

As a family we have stayed at the longships Hotel for the past 10 years and have recommended it to family and friends. Not sure how people can complain about the welcome of the owners and the accommodation. After visiting most courtiers in Europe and parts of the USA my children always look forward to staying in St Ives.
Rude people spoiled our holiday

On arrival from travelling all the way from Yorkshire with our two children we found on arrival the reception door locked, one of my children needed to use the toilet badly, the manager was busy seeing to other guests, as he rudely advised us. We were eventually shown to our room, which was too small to accommodate the four of us. At breakfast, we made the mistake of asking for some more toast for our little one as she did not eat any of her breakfast. The waitress came with some more and told us that the manager advised her to tell us that we had to be down early for breakfast in future, she had in fact got us mistaken for the family sitting behind us, who did in fact come down late. Every night we were awoken by smoke coming out of the ventilation gap, which in a family room is disgusting, obviously coming up through from the bar area. VERY VERY VERY RUDE PEOPLE. This I felt spoilt our yearly holiday to this lovely town if St Ives. We have not and will not be going back to this establishment. NOT RECOMMENDED.
Clean, friendly, great value

The food was lovely, service friendly and efficient, comfortable bed in quiet relaxing room. good relaxing bar and lounge. I would recommend this hotel to everyone. Lovely on the front terrace looking out to sea early and late in the day.
