Great Service

from A TripAdvisor Member
Stayed at the Boskerris over the Easter weekend in the Celebration Suite. Outstanding views, with beautiful surroundings and facilities, including twin sinks, wet-room, bathtub in the bedroom, flatscreen TVs, DVD player etc.

But it was the service that really made the trip. Special touches such as a happy easter card in the room when we got in after a day walking and an easter egg for each of the guests hidden in the teacups at breakfast. These individual, well thought out touches really made the difference to how you felt as a guest.

Don't be put off by the earlier comments about the hotel not being up to scratch in terms of decoration. The owners have had a huge job to transform an old style seaside hotel into something a lot more special but for this season they've certainly achieved it.

What a place!

We have just returned from a three day break from St Ives and had a fantastic stay at the Boskerris.
When we entered the hotel, the view from the terrace was amazing ! What more with the enthusiam and friendly manner of the owners, we really felt at home. We opted for a superior room which was lovely. It had LCD TV, DVD, roll top bath and a seperate rainshower and the view from the window of the bay was outstanding.
We decided to walk to St Ives on the coastal walk which took us around 25 mins and was great to get some fresh sea air from the smog of London !
I have to say we were very sad to leave and would highly recommend the boskerris. It has a style of it's own, fabulous owners and a great breakfast. We are returning in June !!

Charming, friendly and superb breakfast

from jackiematt
We came down on the night sleeper (a wonderful experience in itself) and were charmed by the Boskserris. The view from the terrace and from our bed was powerful. The fixtures etc. are all new, crisp and had everything we needed. Service was friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. DVD's, games, books and magazines all let you while the day away if you want to. As for the breakfast, it was as good as I have ever had anywhere. Local produce, cooked with great care and skill.

Thanks to all.

First class experience

from Traveller171175
Stayed for a long weekend at Boskerris - fantastic. Room was great, really comfortable, but what really made it was the warmth of the welcome. We arrived at 830 am having travelled down on the sleeper train, but were able to check into our room straight away and were given breakfast. On a rainy day we were made welcome in the hotel and made coffee while we lounged over a game of scrabble.

Location is great - St Ives is very crowded and a little intense, but its a lovely walk from Boskerris into town (about 30 mins), and the train service is good too and takes just 3 mins. Taxis cheap too. Carbis Bay itself is stunning, and very peaceful out of season.

Any criticisms? Well it's not cheap, but its worth splashing out for a really first-class experience.

Style over Substance?

from A TripAdvisor Member
Having a history with this hotel going back over 30 years and several changes of ownership, I am not too sure that the currect direction suits me. My first ever visit was one of the best holidays I have ever had, with the hotel full to bursting with great families, wonderful food and great service and a marvellous location.
The current owners are fantastic people and the staff as good as ever, with the updated rooms having Hi Tech fittings - but a louvred door on the bathroom? Sorry, bathroom privacy is compromised and that is not good.
I may be getting on in years but still pack a healthy appetite. The 'Old' Boskerris offered an inclusive 5 course evening meal that included a choice of two soups, plus an entree, and mains accompanied by a different style of potatoes each night and a vast tureen of garden fresh vegetables. Sadly, the style over function has included the food, that looks stunning but hits the wallet extremely hard. For the first time ever, I elminated an offered course on the grounds of cost or poor value for money. Just too expensive. The fact that from a full hotel, there were only 4 of us dining that night, shows that others thought the same. Extremely disappointed to find on arrival having driven 300 miles, that no food was served on a Sunday evening! We had to go out for a buffet meal to a local pub - which proved to be excellent, but that is not what we expected nor what we wanted. A very expensive break that didn't live up to past glories. The coffee has improved though...

shelter from the storm of london life

Lovely, warm atmosphere from the minute we arrived
relaxing calming decor. Very tastefully done and in keeping with the surroundings
Fantastic selection of books
We were made to feel most welcome. We noticed that all visitors were being made to feel that they were the most important customers - but not sickly sweet - felt that owners were genuinely interested in their visitors. Felt like lucky houseguests

Food fantastic - you must have the bacon
dinner menu glorius

Cannot recommend highly enough

escape london on the sleeper train and plot up here for a couple of days you won't regret it

Stayed with my girlfriend for 3 nights in late September. Beautiful hotel, great staff, lovely location, view to die for out of our room and a nice restaurant. They lend you DVDs for a cosy night in in front of the flat screen in your bedroom, are wonderfully charming people and do everything to make you feel comfortable and welcome. The hotel is beautifully decorated and inviting, so fresh and tasteful. Perhaps breakfast could have been a bit more adventurous, as the prices for the rooms are quite high it would have felt a little more value for money. The only gripe however - so it's thumbs up to this hotel! Will definitely stay there again. Highly recommended.

A Perfect Place to Crash

from A TripAdvisor Member
We can't fault the Boskerris. The hotel is in a superb location just outside St Ives with stunning views over Carbis Bay (make sure you get a room with a sea view). It's very quiet and is the perfect place to crash for a few days.

Our room was a good size with en suite, LCD TV and DVD, tea & coffee. The room was very tastefully decorated and spotlessly clean. The terrace which looks over the bay was our favourite part of the hotel and perfect for pre-dinner drinks.

There were two aspects to our stay that made it exceptional. First, the family owners and staff could not have been more friendly or helpful. Every need was looked after without fuss. Restaraunts were recommended, maps provided and transport was arranged. They even rang the Eden Project to check how long the queues were. Second; despite having two very good meals in St Ives (The Alba and Porthminster, both restaraunts thoroughly recommended), we elected to stay at the Boskerris for our last night. Good choice; our meal here was the best of the three.

A couple of points - Carbis Bay is just over a mile outside of St Ives. There is a very good train service that runs from the station about 200 yards from the Boskerris, to St Ives every 15 minutes or so. Alternatively, there is a coastal path to St Ives - about a 30 minute walk.

Our visit was during the school holidays. With hindsight, this is a bad time to visit St Ives as it gets very busy. We are looking forward to our next visit outside of the school holidays. It's a long way for us, but we think it's worth it.

We spent three days at Boskerris last week and can't wait to go back. The hotel is set on a steep hill over beach, with a pretty 25 min walk to St Ives (or a 3 minute train ride - the station is 2 mins from the hotel).

The rooms are small but beautifully, simply decorated, and my partner particularly liked the plasma TV and DVD player! The size of the room didn't matter when presented with beautiful sea views and an uninterrupted horizon.

The owners and staff were very welcoming - we felt very at home lazing in the pretty lounge or nursing G&T's on the deck in the evening. There is a restaurant with very high quality food and the breakfasts were full of extremely tasty local produce.

I would be very happy to recommend this hotel - we can't wait to go back!

Very disappointed

from A TripAdvisor Member
Visited the Boskerris earlier this year and was greatly disappointed when we arrived. The outside of the hotel appeared to be quite tatty and our room was nothing like the rooms were described on Tripadvisor. The bathroom light had live wires hanging out and the bathroom suite was mismatched and very dated. In the fairly small pokey bedroom the television reception was non-existant so we found it very difficult to watch and we found the hotel very overpriced for what it is, but if you like tranquility and seclusion than Carbis Bay is the place for you.

Top Local Tips for St. Ives

Restaurant recommendation Try 'Alba' which is just a few mintes' walk from the station. Very modern, British seafood restaurant.

Paradise park Well worth a visit - more than just birds!

Train link Parking in St Ives is very limited but there is a little station 200 yds from this hotel with an excellent train link into St Ives for little cost and its just such a pleasant stress free journey and is every 30 mins and only takes 6 mins into St Ives.
