Historical Traveller Reviews of Slough Windsor Marriott Hotel

Perfect for a pre-flight stay.

from MadamMuck
I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. Check in was fine, the room was spotless and big enough. Everything we needed was provided, including hot drinks facilities. The bed was comfy and you get the Heathrow Hoppa bus which takes about 20 mins. We got a great rate of £70 which included car parking for while we were away and I personally thought it was great value for money. When we have to fly from Heathrow again, I'll be staying at the Marriott.

Worst hotel i have ever stayed in

The slough/W Marriot deducted money from my bank account without my authorisation. They lost my card details initially. on my last day they presentd me a bill for £29 sundries and i signed for this using my card. then without providing me an invoice or informing me deducted £315 I was unaware of the deduction until i checked my bank details some 6 days later. They had details of my company as they had booked it and details of who was being charged. but they chose not to follow the obvious route and charge me personally for my stay.

Business trip users beware - use CASH for sundries.

Spend a few pounds more if you seek true comfort

My husband, daughters, and I stayed at this property at the end of November, 2005 for 1 night on a layover at Heathrow Airport. While the hotel is by no means a dump, I personally would not stay here again as I feel it does not live up to the expectations I have for a Marriott property.

The hotel is a rather large hotel that reminded me of a large Holiday Inn or Days Inn. Check-in was very smooth with no problems. The room itself, however, was disappointing. We arrived at the hotel around 3:30 in the afternoon imagining that we would relax in the room before our flight the next morning at 8:00 a.m. (We were finishing a 10-day trip to Italy.) The room, however, was small and dingy. While it was clean, the decor is very 70's, the room had an old feeling to it, and the accommodations were very tight. The bathroom was very small and had the old feeling to it as well.

Room service was extremely limited and quite pricey for selections that were not that appealing. However, even if the room service had offered tastier choices, we would still have fled the hotel room because it was just too depressing to sit in there for an entire evening. Luckily, there is a large shopping mall and cinema that was not too far away (7 pound cab fare to Queensmere), and we were able to escape.

As for location and proximity to Heathrow, this hotel is NOT close to Heathrow. Although it is serviced by an airport bus, it is not the best choice for those looking for convenient airport lodging. First, from the airport, the Hotel Hoppa bus took quite some time to come to the airport stop (I assume due to the time it takes to make the circuit to the property and back.) We waited at least 1/2 hour in freezing weather for the shuttle to arrive at the pick-up stop. On return to the airport the next morning, the shuttle was right on time for departure; however, with the morning traffic, it took us almost 45 minutes to get to the terminal from the hotel! (We have often stayed at the Paddington Hilton upstairs from the Heathrow Express station in London. It was much faster to get to Heathrow from London on the Heathrow Express than it was to get to the airport from this Marriott. This was just the reality of the traffic situation.)

With that said, if you are on a budget, the Marriott Windsor may work for you. It was not horrible, it just was not particularly pleasant. On a positive note, the staff of hotel were nice, friendly, and effecient. Also, the cost of this hotel was about 40% less than the sister property closer to the Airport. However, this hotel does prove the adage that you get what you pay for; the choice is up to you.

A great hotel, but ...........

from Morgenstierne
My wife and I stayed 2 nights at the Slough Marriott from August 03 - 05. The hotel was easy to find, parking likewise, check-in was quick, efficient and friendly. Our room was on the ground floor, very comfortable and quiet. All the staff we came into contact with were very pleasant and helpful. The service and food in the restaurant were excellent, and we enjoyed the buffet. Unfortunately being so close to Legoland, and in the middle of the school holidays, the hotel was packed full with families with small children, mostly under 10s. The noise level in the dining room was unbelievable, with children running around everywhere. The hotel made no attempt to give adult guests eating alone, a quieter corner of the restaurant. After dinner we thought at least we could get a quiet drink in the bar, but no such luck. Even at 11 p.m. the kids were running wild around the bar lounge. As for the Leisure Club - forget it. I have often taken my own 2 children to stay at hotels, but I have never before experienced a hotel where children outnumber grown-ups. A great hotel, but if you are looking for peace and quiet, then do not go there during school holidays.

Fine for a pre-flight stay

Stayed here for one night in September 05 and took the 15 days' parking option.
Easy to find (just off the M4), simple check-in, good sized room. Got the Hoppa service (H5 bus) to Heathrow Terminal 3, no problems at all.
Car easy to collect on return.
Would consider for a pre-flight stay again.

We enjoyed it!

We used this hotel as a place to put our heads down for the night before setting of to Legoland the following day.

We paid £72 for a family room and when we got there, we were told our room number and set off to find it. We found out that we'd been put into the executive section of the hotel and our room was massive!!!!

There was a single camp bed put up for our daughter which was fine as she's only 4, but that may be a problem if your 'little one' is 12! Our bed tho was massive, we're used to sleeping in a king sized bed, but this was about half as big again!!!! The bathroom was excellent all marble and shiny with lots of nice products and fluffy white bath robes.

As our room over looked the main reception area there was some traffic noise during the night, but not much as it was mainly taxis dropping off & picking up, so it all stopped fairly early. Once we were tucked up in bed there was no noise at all from the corridors around us or from our 'nextdoor neighbour', so we all managed a really good nights sleep.

The hotel was packed and we had to book a slot in the pool which may be a problem for some people, but I quite liked as it meant the pool wasn't absolutely rammed with people. There was plenty of room for daughter to splash around and the pool set out was quite good for kids as it's quite shallow for a while, plus there was plenty of chairs around the edges for non-swimming parents. (The gym looked really good as well, but as I'd forgotten my trainers I couldn't try it out!)

Even though the hotel was full we didn't have to wait long at all to be served in the restaurant and there was a singer/guitar player there providing some background music which was nice. The food was good, not great, but better than you expect from somewhere like that. The breakfast in the morning was fantastic! Everything you could want, fry-up, cereals, toast, fruit and more! There was plenty to choose from and nothing had run out. You could help your self to how much you liked and you could go back as many times as you wished. In fact I'm still staggered by the amount my partner managed to tuck away that morning!

I would recommened this hotel to anyone wanting a good place to relax and unwind before heading off to their meeting or Legoland etc!

Must have picked a bad time

from Leicstourist
We stayed for the weekend with our sons 11+12. Rooms good - up to the usual standard for Marriott. All staff friendly and helpful. But, and it was big but the restaurant simply was not up to scratch. In the evening the restaurant was half full but service was very slow. The buffet was extremly poor value for money - by 8.30 most of the selections had gone and what was left looked sad, as if it had been there for hours. That was after queuing for about 20 minutes. Almost no dessert left. The bar was full and most of them were families with kids having bar snacks rather than brave the wait in the restaurant. Breakfast buffet not much better, queues, not much selection - even in cereals which don't take much effort. On the whole I probably wouldn't risk this hotel again.

excellent hotel

from A TripAdvisor Member
stayed here in a family room, myself wife and 2 children, used it as a base while exploring london and legoland, an absolutely excellent hotel, the room was spacious, 2 double beds, table and desk, tv and coffee/tea making facilities, safe and trouser press, the room and ensuite were spotlessly clean, cannot fault the room whatsoever, ate in chats bar one night and the food was brilliant and was reasonably priced the childrens meals cost only £3.50 each and were very filling for good eaters, the breakfast again was top notch full english and the obvious contenental/cereal were available, the only down side was the size of the pool (if you like to swim ) which was very small and the price of the beer £3.40 a pint is a little pricey but that might be london prices for all i know just not used to paying it.........overall an excellent hotel with friendly helpful staff, even helped to plan our london adventure and called a cab and sorted out our rail tickets.................could not reccomend this hotel enough

Wonderful family holiday

from ADBUCK
This hotel was the perfect base for our little family getaway. We spent three nights here whilst visiting Legoland with our little boy, and cannot fault anything about it except perhaps that there could be more staff on in the bar at weekend nights.............very busy. The pool was just wonderful for our little man and so too the playroom, staff were delightful and could not help you enough, brekkie was delish, our room was beautifully clean and spacious. The location was great for both visiting Windsor and getting to legoland. We would strongly recommend this hotel for those with young family members, loads of kiddies for mingling with and a very kiddiefriendly enviornment...........without being a playground, there were many areas for relaxing with away from the screams of delight in the pool...........

Top Local Tips for Slough

Take the Hotel Hoppa Bus I cannot stress enough the value and ease of the Hotel Hoppa bus. I wish we had known about it in advance of the trip, because we had to track it down at Heathrow. Basically you can get it from the bus area of terminals 1, 2 or 3 (if you fly into terminal 4 you will need to take the LHR Express to Terminal 3, which is a free ride). Then you just buy your ticket from the driver and you're on the way. about 10% of the cost of a taxi!!! Note: to get the Marriott Slough, you will need to take bus H5!

Spend the day in Windsor Take a taxi to Windsor. Its worth taking the tour of the castle. There are plenty of fun shops, resturants, cafes, etc. Its a safe and fun area - be prepared for lots of walking! Great for children! Visit Eaton college, walk along the Thames, rent a bike....lots to do!

Heathrow Hoppa The Heathrow Hoppa service was fantastic - stops right outside the door of the hotel!
