We stayed here for my sister-in-laws wedding in may 2008, the reception was also held here. When we arrived at the hotel our initial reaction was that it was just an ordinary inn, it looked small and pub-like and i have to admit we did wonder what my sister-in-law was thinking booking the place! However, as you walk round the back you are introduced to a surprisingly deceptive larger hotel with a scenic garden, greenery and a pond. The staff will come out to welcome you and help you with your bags. We were allowed to check in 45 minuites early. At the door we had a table or champagne and orange juice which was handed out on trays as we arrived and while the photographs were being taken outside. When we checked in to our family room we were surprised at the size of them...they were huge and had a very homely and cosy feel. The furniture was old but that just added to the charm. The beds were comfy and the rooms were clean and we ad everything we needed. Our only complaint about the room is that we had one 3/4 bed and one single bed and a small portable matress had been put down on the floor for the fourth guest. We managed ok and the matress was comfy enough for a 2 year old but perhaps would not have been suitable for an older child or teenager. Once we settled in it was time for the wedding "breakfast", which was actually lunch..upon arrival the hall certainly had the WOW factor! There was crystal chandeliers and the round symetric tables had been dressed up with linen tablecloths, silverware and name places. The chairs were draped in cream and gold covers and was absoloutely lovely beyond belief! There was plenty of room to manouvre and enough space for about 100 guests. We had a vegetarian or a meat option which was chicken in bacon..we had no vegetarians but one family didn't eat pork,an alternative dish of beef was offered with no quibbles. My son was asleep when the food came so the staff offered to save his lunch. The food was ok but was pretty average and a bit bland and boring. The service was great. One thing i did notice straight away was the staff were scruffily dressed and uncoordinated, which was a little disappointing but easy to overlook. We had the hall until midnight, later a buffet and a disco was put on, for guests in the hotel a there was an extended bar downstairs where drinks were added to your hotel bill. We stayed one night and the next morning a breakfast buffet was served downstairs from 9-11.30 and was included in the price, the food was second to one with a great range of everything you can think of, the selection was excellent and the food delicious and warm and was kept topped son as anything was finished more was brought out. We had the same staff who all knew us by this point and were really friendly and helpful. One memeber of the party lost their key and was told they would be charged £10...ouch! However, we managed to snap ours and it was replaced no questions asked for nothing! Check out was at 11 but there was no big rush to get you out of there. All in all, a great place...would i reccomend it? You betcha! It was a lovely wedding and this hotel MADE it! We are already talking about going back and it's only been one day!!! You never know, one day I may even have my own wedding there!!!
