We arrived at the hotel in the middle of a snowstorm, having booked for only B&B, but were really happy to be able to be able to book an evening meal at short notice -food was of excellent quality. We found the hotel was hosting a small craft conference that weekend, a group who had come back to the hotel several times. The reception, bar & restaurant staff were friendly, & we saw they were also very good with the young children of two families who were also staying. Very clean & quiet room, looked freshly decorated. We've already booked in for another visit. Would definitely rate above the two stars.

As a tour operator, it is part of my job to check out hotels al over Britain and Europe. I checked this hotel in August 2006 and discovered the worst food I have ever encountered in 35 countries, be they greasy-spoon cafes or 5 star hotels or restaurants. I asked to see the chef who promptly disappeared. I then complained at reception and asked to see the owner who was "out" so I left a message for me to be contacted. This did not happen so I rang the hotel again and was assured that the message was passed on to the owner. I was then assured it would be passed on yet again. You guessed it ... I am still waiting. I sincerely hope that coach tour operators read this review and think twice about using this hotel. I also hope that the hotel owner reads this and reflects on the stupidity of not addressing tour company complaints.
