Eating Out If you want to dine out , dont just rely on the sea front restaurants , venture into the centre and you will many types of venues .
Steer clear of the town centre and harbour area The town centre an sea front are awful. All candy floss, fish and chips and slot machines.

Shabby reception, scuffed walls and lift, torn wallpaper and indifferent reception staff were not a good start.
This hotel could be great, being a large Victorian hotel, but great it isn't.
Our room had the promised side seaview, with 2 chairs. The double bed was a creaky mattress on a piece of rough wood that had been screwed to a bed base.
No attempt at finery there!
The wardrobe and dressing table were white chip-board from the days of childrens furniture in the 70's.
The bathroom was adequate, as long as you don't mind a white bath, and a yellow toilet! No shower.
Downstairs the Bar was very smokey, so we opted for the quiet lounge which was fascinating in its drab 70's style, with a lot of the victorian original features having been inexplicably removed( ceiling rose etc).
Breakfast the following morning was surprisingly good, and the waiter/waitresses were friendly. I was amazed to see that every table was filled with people, so it is not as though the hotel does not have any customers.
Suffice to say, we shall never be back there and the hotel has lost a block booking of at least 10 - 15 rooms for next year.
