Brilliant again !

Second visit to this lovely hotel, Mal & Katherine, the owners made us welcome from the minute we arrived, nothing was ever too much trouble. The rooms are bright,with v comfortable beds & well equipped with generous complimentary drinks,biscuits & a bottle of mineral water for the 1st night. The bathroom, like the room, was spotless with a super shower & good quality toiletries. The breakfast is brilliant,good quality food perfectly cooked by Mal, with plentiful alternatives happily provided for anyone who does not want the full (huge!)English. But just try it once at least, it is the best you will get anywhere and the fried bread is brilliant!Situated just ten minutes from the seafront & town and parking is easy outside the hotel with the simple disc system. A most enjoyable experience, due to the generosity, hard work and constant good humour of Mal & Katherine. We will definitely return.

We have just returned from a much-needed 5 night break and are so glad that we booked The Raincliffe after reading so many positive reviews. We would fault nothing; we had a warm welcome, all the rooms are well equipped & spotless and the meals were superb. Nothing was too much trouble if people made special requests, however busy Katherine the owner was (and she really was busy all the time as her husband, who normally cooks, was away) The whole atmosphere was warm and friendly, and as a few, common sense simple rules were applied in the hotel it meant that guests had a comfortable, relaxing stay. Would definitely stay again if we return to Scarborough.

Excellent accommodation - but petty charges!

We stayed for 3 days and found the Raincliffe Hotel to have a very high standard of furnishings and to have a top notch standard of cleanliness. The full English breakfasts are huge and very nicely cooked and presented. Both owners go out of their way to be friendly and to make their guests stay as comfortable as possible. What more could anybody ask?

On the downside. We found it very niggling to find various small amounts of cash added to our bill. For example; we paid by credit card and had to pay £7.50 on top of the £243 bill. Debit cards also attract an extra charge - only cash is free! Evening meals are a fixed price (£12 for 2 courses) but if you want a coffee it’s an extra £2.50. They provide parking tickets for on-road parking outside the hotel - an extra £4! Although the August tariff says £32 - look closely it says 'from' - we paid £36 per night each!! We found all this to be very petty and disappointing. Why don't they just say £40 per night and cover everything? We would certainly feel better. Adding the bits feels like a rip-off!

Looking for a good place to stay in Scarborough? You do not need to look further than The Raincliffe Hotel where you will have a charming warm welcome. It is a smallish hotel 14 bedrooms but is all delightfully appointed. Everywhere feels very recently refurbished and your comfort is your host's first concern. The owners run it with Malcolm Cooking and Katherine serving at table.

The food is excellent and if you can eat all that is served you will do very well indeed. My wife and I have just spent a week there and it was a happy and comfortable stay.

Do try it.

I couldn't fault the place - friendly, spotlessly clean, comfortable - everything you would want.. and more. I was in Scarborough on Business and although the company had offered to book me into a large hotel I always prefer to find my own place. There are millions of places to choose from so how lucky was I to find the Raincliffe. I will definitely go back...soon.

found this hotel by luck even though it is easy to find and what a lucky find it was , everything was excellent , as for the big breakfast, if you want it , keeps you going until early evening, friendly clean and helpful ,10 out of 10

This is the second time myself and my girlfriend have stayed at the Raincliffe this year. It is a lovely hotel, the rooms are exceptionally clean and comfortable, especially the beds ive never slept so well in my life. Katherine and Mal are one of the nicest couples we have ever met. They are very dedicated in what they do and cannot do enough for you. The food is amazing and may i add the portion sizes are huge! We will definately be returning very soon, Scarborough is our favourite seaside town and staying at the Raincliffe makes it even more pleasurable.

For every year we go back we enjoy it again and again. The hotel is updated every year the food is brill and the sevice is great. Katherine and mal are great too we will definately be going back again.

stephen joseph theatre Visit the theatre. Anything will be worth seeing. The theatre in the round is a rare experience and one you should not miss.

Sealife centre Sealife Centre is a hidden gem., good live music on in the local pubs couple of evenings a week

Thry the Blue Lounge We found it hard to get a reasonably priiced meal in the early evening away from the front. The blue lounge looked more like a trendy disco or nightclub, but in the early evening they did excellent food, the music was muted and relaxing, and they had old silent movies on the flatscreen TVs. Staff were excellent too.
