On first impressions this was a very friendly, well run hotel. The staff were lovely and on the whole the facilities were spotless. Unfortunately Iwas a bit put out at having to pay a parking fee when I always thought parking on the north bay was free with a permit and also the room was very shabby and in poor repair. The windows especially were in bad need of replacing and were lucky to still be in tact after a full night of rattling in the wind!!Worth a short visit but tempers would fray in such small rooms after more than a couple of nights. Superb location.

We stayed at the hotel for 2 days and found it a very pleasant experience. My 4 year old niece loved it as did our dog! We had a family room which was very clean, but the best thing of all was the amazing view. I have already recommended this hotel to my friends and family and hope to return very soon.

On the 3rd of march 2008 I travelled to scarbrough on a school trip. It was my birthday. This started off as a really exciting and special day, but it all went wrong when we got to clarence gardens hotel. The room was very small and smelled like cats. The shower leaked and was made of temporary plastic boards which shook when I was in the shower because of the force of the water. also, the food was really bad and the staff were terrible. the toilet paper also ran out after just one day, and was not replaced. This is the only place I have ever known that you have to take your own toilet paper. Just awful to be honest.

I only scored this hotel 2 because Paula was so nice, otherwise it would have been 1. When we arrived the lift was out of order and we were told that no evening meals were being served, not a good start. The hotel was desperately in need of updating, there was a hole in the wall by the skirting board on the staircase! The bedroom furniture was dated and was missing handles and the beds were hard and uncomfortable.
the north shore of Scarborough has deteriorated so much, I was really shocked at the state it was in, needless to say I won't be returning and would not recommend either the hotel or Scarborough.
