On first impressions this was a very friendly, well run hotel. The staff were lovely and on the whole the facilities were spotless. Unfortunately Iwas a bit put out at having to pay a parking fee when I always thought parking on the north bay was free with a permit and also the room was very shabby and in poor repair. The windows especially were in bad need of replacing and were lucky to still be in tact after a full night of rattling in the wind!!Worth a short visit but tempers would fray in such small rooms after more than a couple of nights. Superb location.
Great Place to Stay

We stayed at the hotel for 2 days and found it a very pleasant experience. My 4 year old niece loved it as did our dog! We had a family room which was very clean, but the best thing of all was the amazing view. I have already recommended this hotel to my friends and family and hope to return very soon.

On the 3rd of march 2008 I travelled to scarbrough on a school trip. It was my birthday. This started off as a really exciting and special day, but it all went wrong when we got to clarence gardens hotel. The room was very small and smelled like cats. The shower leaked and was made of temporary plastic boards which shook when I was in the shower because of the force of the water. also, the food was really bad and the staff were terrible. the toilet paper also ran out after just one day, and was not replaced. This is the only place I have ever known that you have to take your own toilet paper. Just awful to be honest.
Never again

I only scored this hotel 2 because Paula was so nice, otherwise it would have been 1. When we arrived the lift was out of order and we were told that no evening meals were being served, not a good start. The hotel was desperately in need of updating, there was a hole in the wall by the skirting board on the staircase! The bedroom furniture was dated and was missing handles and the beds were hard and uncomfortable.
the north shore of Scarborough has deteriorated so much, I was really shocked at the state it was in, needless to say I won't be returning and would not recommend either the hotel or Scarborough.

I can't understand why so many people have rated this hotel 10/10. the rooms are so small and cramped, the beds are literally pushed right next to each other. we stayed in a room with 4 4 people, when really there was not even space for 1. It is impossible to unpack, as there is no storage space. everything just has to stay in your suitcase, which is extremely unsuitable. the tables in the eating area are all very close together, and the quality of food is awful. the hotel is very dated and is in desperate need of refurbishing. this was my second time at clarence gardens hotel, and will definately be my last time! most of scarbrough itself is run-down and not a pleasent place to be.....avoid scarbrough and this hotel.
Great value

Very comfortable 3 day stay while in the area for business meetings. The staff was helpful and polite and the rooms clean. I will certainly consider using this hotel next time I am in the area next.

This hotel appears to be ok from the outside, but once you step through the front door its a whole different story! i wanted to leave the minute i arrived and wouldnt reccommend it to anyone. it wouldnt have been so bad if it was clean, but the beds were unmade for the whole week and the room was never cleaned. the hotel had a horrid smell all the way thorugh, and when we opened the window to get rid of it, the smell of a skip outside made it even worse. the bathroom was very small with a door that just swung open, and only a small trickle of water came out of the shower. i would never reccomend this hotel to anybody, and whatever your budget, you must go somewhere else, as this hotel definately doesnt live up to its 3 star rating.

ghost walks there is a ghost walk that leaves from the harbor on a sat and tues at 8pm he's very good and its more of an historical insight in to scarborough than a ghost tour, its a great way to learn about the town and maybe go to bits of the town that you wouldnt normaly visit i've been visiting for 25 year and didnt know half the stuff that the gent told us about
